Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Shifting Gears Section. Thanks for sharing!

Would strongly recommend "Dirty Money" on Netflix. Start with the VW emissions episode. Top class

Be sure to check out "Grand Prix Driver" on Prime. A must-watch, even if you aren't an F1 fanatic - link:

Keep an eye out for "Faster Horse" on Netflix. It comes & goes. Will give it 5 / 5 stars, and that's not just because I'm a Mustang fan:

Well-produced, but I got bored after 30 minutes. You might really enjoy it if you are highly concerned about online privacy.

Terribly boring because it doesn't have Ferrari or Mercedes! That's like watching Godfather & removing Marlon Brando + Al Pacino scenes. However, good news is that the two are confirmed for Season 2.

By far my favorite F1 documentary. Brilliantly made. Senna (2010) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1424432/

For aviation fans:
Easyjet: inside the cockpit. Its a 3 part documentary of pilots flying the planes.

BBC’s 3 part documentary on the operations of British airways: A very British airline

BBC’s 5 part series on aviation: skies above Britain

Extreme flight: Indian Airforce by National geographic on hotstar

For geopolitics fans:
This is what winning looks like: A harrowing tale of aftermath of US’s Afganistan war by vice. Really disturbing

Fighting ISIS by Vice

Watch "The 24 Hour War"

It's a documentary about the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari in Le Mans during the 60s. It is an absolutely riveting story.

Got it from youtube. This documentary is available on Prime Video. Simply one of the best racing documentaries I've ever seen and gave me a glimpse of Le Mans like never before.

@Tanmay - I concur. Senna is indeed a great watch for F1 aficionados.
I recommend it to even non followers of the sport, just to watch the story of the greatest racing driver F1 has ever seen.

For the automotive entrepreneurial aficionados, I suggest ‘Tucker: The Man and his Dream’. It is based on a real story and shows how powerful the US automotive oligopoly is.

Food for thought: Tesla is the first US Auto company to go public since 1956

I personally found Kumare to be absolutely incredible.

The protagonist is someone who was a skeptic of religions and Godmen in particular. Born and brought up in a fairly devout American-Indian family, this skepticism compels him to take up religious studies as his major in university. But the more that he read about it, the more he finds himself disbelieving it.

So he decides to conduct an experiment - of transforming himself into a Guru. The experiment helps him amass a huge following as he teaches completely made-up mantras, poojas, asanas and more.

Our Planet : 5 / 5 (Netflix)

A visual treat and a brilliant and unflinchingly true account of the beauty of the natural world and how it's undergoing major level damage; and climate change. One of the best series that gives a yin-yan view of the world narrated by the amazing David Attenborough

The World War 2 in HD : 5 / 5 (Netflix)

A beautiful series timeline based of the WW2. Even if you know your world wars in detail, this is a must-watch visit as they keep bringing in old videos and photos from those days to connect to the storyline

The Chernobyl Podcast : 5 / 5 (Youtube/other podcast sites)

Technically this is a simple podcast aligned to the very popular series. It is a documentary because the author/writer/producer explains the background details and provides a much detailed view of what exactly happened back then, what was the global (outside Russia) view at that time and what is the realistic damage as compared to something similar happening today.

If you have watched the series, do not give it a miss. The amount of details given by him is mind-blowing at times.

I'm a huge fan of documentaries and my favorite is www.curiositystream.com (started by Discovery Channel founder). Curiosity Stream is the Netflix of documentaries and costs just $3 per month. All documentaries on Curiosity Stream are 100% original

The Documentaries Thread (English only)-curiositystream.jpg

User interface is just like any other video streaming site and you can watch HD documentaries on various categories like science, space, World War 2, aviation, wildlife and so on. You get exclusive documentaries hosted by Stephen Hawking, David Attenborough etc too.

Highly recommend 'The Inside Job' about the 2008 financial crisis. It'll make you so frustrated and angry about how so many of these bankers got away with it.

This one is such a riveting watch. I have no idea how they could get so many original footages.

I binge watched this series for many days. And watching this led to several other related documentaries. There is one about hitler's private train that he used to travel. It was an excellent watch too.

Completely agree. Some of the visuals will make you think that it is not real and is all CGI. I picked up on this after my son started watching Ninjago. I refused to entertain him in watching that and we shifted his focus to Our Planet. It is unflinching in its story line. In the first few episodes there is show of death due to climatic changes and how it has caused certain animals to behave. Must watch for any child growing up to know how we have screwed up the planet for them !!!

The Dawn Wall

The Documentaries Thread (English only)-fbshare.png

A friend of mine who is into rock climbing recommended this.

Holy smokes. What a story!

I don't want to give too much away or even post the trailer, because I feel like there were a few crazy twists & turns in the story that might be ruined if I did that.

The premise: Free-climbing a never-before climbed route on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

But this is so much more than a documentary just about rock climbing.

Really worth a watch if you want an uplifting TRUE STORY about guts, determination, brotherhood, trauma, insane motivation, kidnapping, loss, overcoming obstacles -- all packaged into a very well put together & fast-moving documentary made by Red Bull media house.

Hopefully you choose to watch it without looking into it further.

It's available on Netflix India.

6/5
