Well I'd say a spouse visa should work out easier. Its best to take a letter from your company stating that she would be accompanying you.

I had gone to an official agent here in the city for an enquiry on a course.

The concerned person wasnt in but his peon/secretary/left hand was there.

He discouraged me from selecting the particular university they are agents for and Asked me to look at another one he personally handles. A quick google showed that his university wast reputable enough.

The worst part was there was a father-son duo in front of me ready to spend their hard earned money not knowing what was in store for them.

I am going to call up the uni today to complain. hope that gets me a higher scholarship. :P

How is she your wife,if you aren't married? Do you mean she's your fiancé ? AFAIK,you can only take your spouse on a tourist visa, and a valid marriage certificate is required.

Yes. She would have to go on a tourist Visa. A marriage certificate would not be required when she goes on a tourist visa but it would be required when she applies for either an L2/H4 (Dependent) visas.

PS: If you are a US Citizen, you can apply for a K1/K2 visa.

There's been some talk about this now. As it stands, the US Govt will try to reduce the influx of foreign nationals on H1-B visas, and improve the conditions within the country. There are a ton of qualified Americans who are currently jobless, and its evident that they feel threatened in their own country.

From what I have heard, the IT sector humans will be the most badly affected. This is the worst part of the news.
I know more than a couple of friends who had plans to utilize this visa, but now their dreams have hit flat spot.

Just hope that the recession ends very very fast.

Well its logical. The goal of H1B is to fill up vacant jobs which cannot be filled due to resident labor shortage, and not to bring in foreign workers who are willing to work for less.
With unemployement rates shooting through the roof, it will be very difficult to get H1B approval.

Politicians force IT companies in Bangalore to give preference to local candidates over others from the SAME country and we dont say anything. But US Govt forces US companies getting the bailout money to give preference to Americans and we have a separate thread on it!
