Nothing mentioned in the Mi manual.

Can you please run the wear screeninfo app as well as check the screen resolution details on Hotstar and post screenshots.

All video apps are designed to scale the video based on the bandwidth available. Some of them are doing it deliberately as well (see Cutting the chord thread).
Hotstar was scaling the content to 720 on TV whereas working 1080 on phone (possibly to optimise their cloud spend).

It was playing at 1080p, checked on my primary Samsung TV

In that case you need to zero in on the app here (Hotstar).
What do other apps show or for that matter STB inputs show the resolution as ?

Yep. Used to play videos on weekends on it. Probably the only time I used the "smart" feature of this TV. Using it no more. Might use cast screen feature if need be.

Pleasure! But have you too noticed that the boot time has become longer? And it also takes longer to switch to dth mode. Shut down has become faster. Is it the same for you too?

Shutdown is faster with no option of 20 second countdown like before.
Startup is taking longer with all those colourful rings flashing phase, android caption followed by screen going black.
YouTube actually closed on its own a couple of times, has not happened again thankfully. Fingers crossed.
The best part is that it now comes with playstore.

The Mi technician visited today, seemed surprised that screen was showing 720p on Hotstar. Spoke to his superiors etc and took a video of it.

Will get back to me.

Tatasky HD is 720p, not 1080p so will not reflect.

In all fairness, YouTube and Prime video is really clear and high definition, no complaints, seem like 1080p but no concrete way to tell.

Tatasky isn't 720p its 1080p. On my Samsung Plasma Full HD it shows at 1080p.

I doubt any set top box will support 1080p as the transmission itself is 1080i. there is not enough bandwidth to support full 1080p on set top boxes. so they support only 1080i @ 50hz in India.

Re: Mi TV - Bought a full HD TV, but screen resolution is just 720p!

I recently bought a Samsung 65 inch 4K TV to replace my old Samsung 43 inch plasma TV in my living room. It cost me 1.07 lakh rupees.

My friends were laughing at me saying I could have got a MI or VU or OnePlus TV for a lot cheaper and even half of what i spent for this TV.

But when they came over and saw the picture quality even running a normal 4K YouTube video, I was the one who was laughing in the end.

I had compared Sony / Samsung / Hitachi / LG and a few other brands in a store before i decided on buying Samsung. Sony no doubt was the best in picture quality but it was a bit more expensive than Samsung but the value for money shows in the sound and picture quality when you compare it with these Chinese brands.

My recommendation is dont be penny wise pound foolish. TV is not something you would keep changing every year or two years. I replaced this TV after 7 years of owning the Samsung 43 inch plasma TV and I replaced it not because it wasnt working anymore but because I really needed a bigger TV for the living room as the room was big and proportionately the TV seemed too small when viewing from a distance.

Plus the new Samsung Smart TV has all the apps like Hotstar / Zee5 / Sony Liv apart from the usual Netflix and Amazon Prime. It even has Apple TV app built in so no need to buy any additional streaming boxes anymore.
