Re: Citibank's exit from India

Hey guys, I am unsure about converting my card to Axis card. I am more inclined towards no at this point.

To those who have given a go ahead for the same, would you all share your reasons for agreeing to this? I have the Citi Rewards Platinum card.

Re: Citibank's exit from India

Is there a way to check now whether you gave consent to convert to Axis?

I remember receiving an email asking for consent, but I don't remember my reply

If you had consented (or maybe not), you should have got a SMS mesage from Citi.

I had given consent and got a SMS confirming the same.

Re: Citibank's exit from India

I've been a Citi India customer since around 2003 or so when I filled up an application form for their JP co-branded card at some airport - the executive who called to follow up on that sold me a Citigold account. Never had to regret it - in nearly 20 years, I have had to visit their branch exactly twice, and both times only because I needed DDs quicker than Citi Online promised.

Anyway I followed my relationship manager out of Citi. I also told Citi that since I have made alternate arrangements I didn't see any need to take their offer of porting to Axis. The counter from their side was that I should still opt for it because that way my banking history (going back to nearly 20 years) will be preserved. Thought about it for a while and gave the consent for porting.

I have given the go ahead. I have Citibank and Punjab National Bank(PNB). My company doesn't allow salary credit into PNB. So, I would have to open an account in a new bank. I thought Axis is as good as any other here.

Yes.

SMS “STATUS <Space> last 4 digits of your debit/credit card” to 52484 / 9880752484 from your
registered mobile number, to check the status of consent for your relationships.

I have their Good Health medical insurance policy covering my entire family from about 1997. Individual covers, not floater. To maintain continuity of the policy I accepted porting to Axis.

You can call up Citi customer care and check the status and you can even opt in or out same time.

Doesn’t matter, really. Your credit history is recorded irrespective of the card status.

Sorry! what I meant to say was this being my oldest card closing it will reduce the age of credit history or so I thought!. In my 20 years of credit card life never had something similar happened before so may be i assumed wrong. Also please see post 20, I see similar advice being given by citibank rm.

Re: Citibank's exit from India

With Citibank now closing on customers like us do we have a recommendation for the next best card or we go the PayTm/UPI route?

Not possible to carry cash for fuel fills and I at least do not have any other credit card which does not charge surcharge and not comfortable using my Debit Card in petrol pumps.

Re: Citibank's exit from India

It’s sad to see citi go. I have been using citi card for past 20+ yrs and never faced any issue rather was very surprised by the proactiveness from the customer service team.

Based on the email received, I chose to continue with axis bank to see the service it offers (axis as a brand is absolute crap). If it cannot match the service I received for past 20 yrs from Citibank, will just cut into 2 pieces and throw it away and will bid adieu

May try HDFC as an alternative as the same bank has my salary account.

—-from the consent doc—-

• There will be no immediate change to any product you hold with us, be it credit cards, loans, deposits, investments, or any others.
• The transaction is expected to complete in the first half of calendar year 2023 (“Effective Date”), subject to requisite regulatory approvals.
• This is only the start of a process, and while there will be a transition subject to us procuring your consent, where applicable, we shall ensure that it is done in as seamless a manner as possible, with due notice.

Been a Citi RM myself, and at a few other Banks as well. Essentially, by credit history if you mean transaction details, POS swipes etc, then yes - to conserve that porting would be needed.

However Credit history as it’s referred to in the industry (all about your payment history, credit limits (and changes thereto), usage, any related loans etc) will all be preserved irrespective of your porting status.
