Ratan Tata was a true gem. He inspired all with his compassion and humility. He was a true doyen of our industry. Like Anand Mahindra said in his tribute, if India is poised to take a leap today, it is because of Ratan Tata and others who came before.

Om Shanti Sir.

You have shown that business can have ethics and compassion and that we should strive for making a difference to those around us. You will be remembered and missed.

Great loss for our country. God will be blessed to have him on His board of Directors in heaven!

I can't put it in words to say how Sir Ratan Tata made us what we are today. For today's generation, he was the OG 'influencer' for all things good that are happening in India.

Rest in Peace Sir.
Om Shanti.

Re: Padma Vibhushan Ratan N Tata passes away at 86

Today my driver who is usually very talkative casually said this:

"one guy spends 1000s of crore to get his son married, and one guy spends his whole life without even marrying and giving everything to people"

I think this sums up the impact Ratan Tata Sir had made in all our life. He touched almost every Indian's life in a positive way.

There was an incident narrated by comedian Vadivelu when veteran Actor Sivaji Ganesan passed way. There was a drunk man who was a ardent fan of Sivaji, was walking part of the final procession of Sivaji. All the actors were sitting next to the body in the vehicle that carried Sivaji's body. This drunk man was so sad and could not digest the loss of Sivaji, and shouted at the actors that "there was only one REAL actor in Tamil cinema and you all guys killed him".

Now, I wanted to just say, he is the only one man with INTEGRITY in the whole of Indian business fraternity and we lost him. There is no else in the whole of India who can be compared to him when it comes to integrity in what he does.

Most of the investments he did with the start ups are not for returns but rather simply to share his (Tata's) wealth and encourage entrepreneurs who in turn can make an impact.

Bigbasket is just one example where Tata loses money. They charge peanuts as delivery fees. Same goes for their cars as well where their margin is less than 10% when Mahindra make crores & crores in the name of booking and keeping people money with them. Tata in the recent times, made sure they will be present in all the industries where it impacts common people like groceries (even salt, dhals etc.), beverages, water, tea, coffee etc. I used to think why Tata wants to make steel and then dhals also.

What I understood is that they want the common man, especially the lower, middle income population to have the basic needs of life are available at a reasonable price thus unfair pricing practices are kept at check. Their daily need products are priced sensitively.

I CAN ONLY VISUALISE THIS:
Ratan Sir was part of that meeting to formulate strategy on next venture, and he says, "Guys, please make sure the common population gets their basic needs at a reasonable price, even if we make loss or miniscule margins. So, lets get into FMCG and provide best quality but at a very reasonable price".

If it is Tata, I just buy it. Tata Sampan is one such a brand and always buy. The only place where they could not convince me is their automobiles. Somehow, this could not be cracked while Ratan was around still. Hopefully, the legacy of Ratan Tata stays as the core value of the Tata Group.

R.I.P Ratan Tata 🙏

Industrialist, Businessman, Scion of the Tata Group he has been known for many roles. I will always remember him as a Nation Builder. He was one of the strongest pillars of the India Story we bask in today. The Indian Automotive Industry would not have been the same without his singular contributions.

In recent memory, the way he handled Taj attacks post 26/11 and bounced the iconic hotel back again was a great example of the kind of human he is, for this generation to see.

Brand Tata is the ONLY one which can stick Indian consumers to it, across sectors. And the culture and ethos of this man is at the core of that company.

Rest in Peace sir!

This is an end of an era. Having worked at Tata Industries in the early stages of my carrier, I still remember the brand fondly. Tata Brand has been synonymous with Ratan Tata and this is a big loss to the entire nation. What an outstanding journey keeping himself relevant and working tirelessly for the betterment of society.

May his soul rest in peace.

Cannot help but think of the great man whose legendary vision resulted in this.

The nano electric could and should have been the ultimate city runabout for the ever increasing congestion in all our major cities.

Om shanti. May his soul rest in peace and continue to inspire us.

P.S: I just hope that the good folks at TATA motors would consider releasing a special edition nano (electric/otherwise) as a tribute to the legend.

Re: Padma Vibhushan Ratan N Tata passes away at 86

The legacy of a man is how you remember him. It is not just me but the entire nation remembers him fondly not so much as a businessman / industrialist but as a kind, gentle and humane leader who went beyond simply providing employment. So not surprising that so many of us have not met him ever but we feel this sense of deep personal loss. I doubt any of his contemporaries incl. Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani ever evoke such fondness. Respect, awe - for sure but fondness, nope!

The 2nd gen from these established families to me are just businessmen. The ostentatious display of wealth is in your face everywhere. Their philanthropy is probably more of just an extension of their business and not truly sure how it contributes to upliftment of society, culture, or nation at large.

Less said about the latest crop the better. The new entrants are just terrible role models! The likes of Bhavish, Elon, Ashneer (add Gautam Sighania though he is more 2nd Gen) are simply not the examples you want the world to follow.

I personally do not admire any other industrialist the way I admire Mr. Ratan Tata - his legacy lies in going beyond just acquiring wealth. He was #421 on Haroon's list of rich! He was born with a silver spoon and he was rich by any yardstick. But he always mingled around like a true gentleman who realized that he is what he is due to contribution from millions he employs. He did what he could to make their lives better. RIP!

Re: Padma Vibhushan Ratan N Tata passes away at 86

This loss!! Incomprehensible and hit me like a train wreck. Last night, I was playing online competitive games (CSGO) when my wife suddenly barged into the room yelling on top of her voice about the unfathomable piece of news. My hands froze on my laptop, gawking at her mouth uttering those sad words, and a heartache which seemed to not end. I recently lost my best friend to a long illness (28 years old of age) at such a young age, that profound sorrow just came back to my senses. That's how strongly hit I was!

I was never associated with Tata or any of its subsidiaries, but I highly regard him and his companies. I always have had an inclination towards tata brands, I shop Tanishq rather than Reliance jewels, I shop on bigbasket instead of Amazon grocery, I shop from Tata star bazaar instead of Dmart, I shop from titan instead of sunglasshut.

My early memories of Tata Indica date back to the early school years. My cousins father bought a brand new spanking Indica DLG in carbon steel grey color in that black smoke emitting diesel engine under the hood. Somewhere, around 17-18 years ago. Although we never bought any Tatas, but Ratan sir always held a soft corner in my heart. I never saw him as a business man! I always looked upto him as a perfect man!

He didn't have a family of his own to grieve, yet he managed to make every Indian cry! What a loss!

I was cutting onions while writing this.

Re: Padma Vibhushan Ratan N Tata passes away at 86

I was following the news about Mr. Tata being critical last night fearing for the worst. Once the news broke out, I was heartbroken. The impact this one man made on an entire nation is second to none.

He just knew how to give and not only to humans but also to animals. His care towards these voiceless creatures melt your heart.

I had this one wish to meet the great man once in my life time which came true when I met him at the Tata Nexon EV launch in 2020 and took a picture with him as well. I will never forget that day.

Mr Tata's was placed at the NCPA in Mumbai for everyone from the public to come and pay their last respects. I just had to and I went. To see him one last time.

And the organising was perfect. Disciplined queues with crates of mineral water bottles at every short distances for any one who wanted it. There was no crowding around the casket and everyone got ample time to pray and pay homage.

Im glad I went and got to see my idol up close one final time before saying goodbye.

Rest in peace Mr. Ratan Tata. Your life is one that will inspire for many generations to come.

Thank you for being the superhero that you were. Being born in your era has been a privilege.

The person Ratan Tata was, had a deep love for his dogs. Had an Indigo Marina with backseat removed to ferry them.
Another anecdote is when he missed a ceremony by Prince Charles for a lifetime achievement award, so that he could be with his sick dog Tito.

It's a big loss for us car fellows. Sir Ratan Naval Tata will invariably have a separate space in our hearts. He was a Gentleman of a person who always stood for good!!
He developed a car for the Indians and offered it for a cheap price. His aim was to build a car for Indian families that was cheap, small from the outside, and spacious on the inside, compared to the H.M. Ambassador.

Re: Padma Vibhushan Ratan N Tata passes away at 86

Penning down my and wifey's thoughts,(she's not a T-Bhp member), on this huge loss to humanity:

The present King Charles(IIIrd), then Prince Charles wanted to honour RNT's philanthropic efforts with an award but RNT cancelled and rescheduled his visit to the Buckingham Palace, as his pet dog was seriously unwell.
Rumour says, that rather than getting upset, Prince Charles admired RNT for his candour and had said that these were the qualities that made RNT such a humane person & an extraordinary business leader. From making kennels for strays to building the largest pet hospital in Mumbai, The Gem of India has always been the voice of the voiceless.

Having grown up in a household which blindly trusted "Tata",
be it Salt, Eau-de-Cologne, Hotels, Cars, Hospitals: this loss seems like a personal loss. The oft uttered phrase in our household(in Bengali):"Tata'r jinish toh?" "Taholay niyye nao" (Translated: "Is it a Tata product?" "Then take it") by our dear departed parents, still echoes in our ears.

Everywhere we look, we see a Tata brand touching our lives in some way or the other. The Nano and the Nexon that we proudly own, the clothes and the watches that we wear, the spices that we use for cooking, the hotels that we stay in while on vacation; always have been Tata.

Champion of Humanity, Hero to many and guardian angel to countless lives.
Your legacy will live on.

Anmol Ratan. Legends don't die.

One of the greatest personalities from India. Everybody (literally everybody) in India loved and respected him in some way or the other. It feels really sad to digest the fact that he is no more. There will never be anyone like him again. Probably one of the last legends or icons of India. Rest in Peace, Sir Ratan Tata, you will always be remembered, loved and respected by every Indian who has known you, directly or indirectly.
