Visited Janardhana Hotel on Kumara Krupa Road for breakfast and it still packs a punch with its old world charm :thumbs up

This was a visit with a group of friends and we ended up trying everything on their breakfast menu - idli, plain dosa, masala dosa, uppittu, kesari baath and coffee. Could not resist a takeaway of Badam Halwa for the family back home rl:

The sambar here is not the sweet "Udupi" style one which is a great relief. The waiter had served cold chutney (previous day stuff refrigerated) with our first order and by the time we actually started eating (lot of banter helped), we got fresh chutney along with the dosas, so we didn't have to eat the old stuff!

NAVU Project, which was at the Bangalore International Centre, has downed its shutters for now. They are taking a break before relocating to a new place. It's a pity as it was one of the few world class places in BLR. Eagerly waiting for their reopening.

Nostalgic for me, have stayed in Janardan Hotel, near Majestic, opp Banglore International, in the '90's, for a princely sum of 100/- per night.

The restaurant used to be packed, had met Shakuntala Devi, the numbers wizard, while having breakfast.

Long weekends are my favourite to travel within the city to catch up with friends and family :)

Met some friends for breakfast today and the plan was to eat at New Krishna Bhavan, Malleswaram. Once we all assembled, one of the guys who lives walking distance from Krishna Bhavan said it's not a good choice and instead took us to nearby Sanman on seshadripuram main road. It is close to the erstwhile Kino talkies (now an apartment!), I hadn't been on that side of the seshadripuram main road in decades rl:

Tried the Idli, Vada, Dosa, Bisi Bele Baath and everything was excellent including chutneys and sambar (not the reddish, sugary, fake "Udupi" style thankfully). There was even a raw mango gojju which was nice and tangy. Great find for me, had never been there before today.

Good to hear current (experience) feedback from locals. There are several places in Bangalore which ooze of nostalgia for what they represented years/decades ago but their current setup is no where close to what they represented in the past - e.g. MTR, Airlines hotel and several others.

In my opinion, janardhana is a highly overrated place. May be it was good long ago. I visited recently. Shocked at the size of uppit and kesaribath. Very expensive and the taste is not great either.
South ruchis square which is about 500 meters from here, is a high quality place. Very good ambience and hygienic. They have north indian cuisine too.

Well, I'd disagree here simply because such places have some history associated and even if few of the items on the menu are still good (place is really known for their Masala Dosa actually), some of us visit for the overall experience and nostalgia. The same is true for many other places and today they're revered just based on internet/social media coverage and ratings.

Agree on both points.

Had went to Guru Kottureshwara Davanagere Benne Dose yesterday morning around 11 AM. Since we had went late, felt that the chutney and the aloo palya that is given was not upto the mark. Dose was good as always.

Thanks for this suggestion. Had went to Khmer Kitchen on 14th to celebrate mom's birthday. Liked the ambience of the place and the food was indeed tasty. We are vegetarians but had good amount of options to choose from the menu. The Bao that we had was very light and tasty. Only thing if I have to nitpick is that the service was slow but have to also mention that the place was full.

NKB was pretty good when I went there a few weeks ago, so Sanman must be really, really good :loveit Will try it out next time I'm in Malleswaram. Thanks!

Sanman is extremely good, but sadly you dont get Idli Dosa after I think 7-7.30. Their north Indian is also very good.

Folks, any suggestions for an open air restaurant around Manyata which can seat around 45 people? We are planning for a team lunch this weekend and due to covid rules of our org, we cannot plan any event >20 folks in an indoor location. Am not familiar of the restaurants around that area so would be great if any of you can help? As its a company organized event, there will be a cap on the budget (guess around 700-800 per person)

Any recommendations for a good place to meet up with NRI friends visiting ? Looking for places near BTM/Jayanagar/JP Nagar that have veg and non veg options. Also, want to avoid the noisy places and those playing loud music that prevents people from having a conversation at the table :)

You can try Uru. If you take a table in the garden area, it is more private.

Some of the folks in the visitors group have been there multiple times in the last 2 weeks, so they said any other place will be good lol:
