Re: The "Jobs available in my organisation" thread

I have 4 Years of IT experience, Basically into UNIX Application / Server Support. Recently have joined a course on Cloud Computing and learnt VMWare / XEN, Amazon AWS & Also hosted a small private cloud (For my learning / testing )

Would this be enough for me to get a Job in Cloud Computing? I do not mind working as a L1/ L2 level employee, But need a move on from the 24 x 7 shift role that my current profile gives me.

Any advice / suggestions please.

Guys,

Any idea about Mahindra Satyam after they took Satyam. Is it safe to join this company ? Is there any bench policy where they deduct salaries during the bench period, etc.

I have friends in Mahindra Satyam and it is pretty safe. No salary deduction for employees on Bench, I don't think any renowned company does that.

You need to have patience, this is normal for jobs through campus. Lots of people have to wait till a year. Just keep in touch with the recruiter.

Re: The "Jobs available in my organisation" thread

I have a friend who completed his engineering (Electrical and Electronics) from one of the best engineering college under Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (or IP). He is the university rank 2 and overall a smart kid. Completed his BTech in 2011 with 80% aggregate. Had two campus placements both of which he had to decline as they required him to go out of Delhi which is a strict NO due to family issues.
Any leads or pointers would be really appreciated.

Re: The "Jobs available in my organisation" thread

Earlier I used to hear a lot about Mechanical Engineering. That this is the evergreen field and will not go down like the IT world etc.

Now, as I am about to complete my graduation in ME, none of the companies related seem interested in us freshers. I don't want to end-up in IT. A strict NO from my side. What alternatives do I have?

I so want to work in Automobile sector but as of now it looks like none of the firms pick freshers!!

But they do and people end up being maintenance specialists with the responsibility of ensuring that all assembly lines are up and running. Apart from this not much scope in India, of course with time the designation and pay-scale will increase but the essence of the job will be more or less the same. You could also go join one of the earth moving machinery majors and who knows could end up heading their service network. Yay what fun

If you seriously want to get in to automotive field as in on the design, R&D side etc. etc. you need a degree from one of the universities in Germany, Austria, France or the UK and then get in to either one of the major motor car manufacturers or one of the component manufacturers or some of the independent design companies as that is where the real cutting edge design work is done. If you luck out you could end up joining one of the F1 teams, remember UK above, that is where a majority of them are based. You could do this in the US too and then the field will be wider, what with a lot of earth moving, industrial heavy mobile machinery, aviation and defense industry too coming in to play. Do some research and you will see a clear pattern which identifies universities from where the auto majors in EU and US traditionally pick up engineers. You could plan to do your masters there.

In India the one company that comes to mind is Cosworth India Pvt. Ltd. They have a new(ish) set up in Poona and they just might be the only bet who will not turn in to a copy and paste component manufacturing line. Cummins, also based in Poona can be another great prospect. Few years ago they were woking on some very interesting projects to develop engines for the defense forces. Basically a cut and paste from designs out of their US mothership but with a lot of Indian tadka. I am sure, currently too they will have something interesting going on. Apart from these there are many other MNC component manufacturers here such as Delphi, Bosch, Federal Mogul and others like AVL who do engine / engine design analysis etc and any of these could be stepping stones to better opportunities in the field. Coming back to the Indian auto industry, Mahindra could be Nirvana country for you if you can get in. It is a very dynamic organisation and is scaling up in almost all verticals. This ensures that a lot of opportunities will spring up in-house in the near future.

If this is in Bangalore, then one of my friends would be interested. But he has a senior profile having 8+ years of experience. He is currently put up in Delhi and wants to relocate to Bangalore.

PS: I don't think anyone can PM you yet because you are still a "Newbie". Please PM me your email ID where I can send you his resume. Which company is this by the way?
