Hey all sharp shooters ! Need help.

Check the pics below, my aim was to get the LG logo in the droplets.
Succeeded to an extent but for some reason keyboard was more in focus than the mobile screen.
Is it the light or is it the reflection that is confusing the camera ?

Yes, this is with AF on.

MF is the way to go. Whats the next project ? I am interested if its dipping mobiles in the water, preferably an iPhone 3GS or similar .

Since the subject is so close to the camera, using a narrow aperture like f/11 won't help in getting everything in perfect focus in this particular case. There will be some mount of shallowness.

Even with AF, one can focus on the area one would like to. In my camera (Sony A200), I can use the ring dial (normally used to browse through menu and pics) to select which area of the frame should be focussed, instead of blindly half-pressing the shutter button. The focusing mode needs to be set appropriately. For example if I press between the left and down buttons in the ring at the same time and then half-press the shutter, the lower left part of the frame will be focused.

It will be a different way to do this in another camera, but I think all cameras have this option.

I suppose the suggestion to use manual focus is because when the subject is a bit tricky, like a reflective surface as in this case, the auto focus mechanism can get fooled, even if you chose your focus points/area correctly.

I was out on the terrace today testing out my new 70-300mm VR G. There was bright sunlight and hence the pictures came out pretty well at 300mm as well. Check them out. The images that I tried shooting through the haze were not good at all. At 300mm I cannot go below f5.6. The lens is definitely light and though there is no VR, as long as the shutter speed is good enough, the results are pretty good. Kind of like what Ken Rockwell tells us to expect anyway.

Desire's 5MP camera gives decent images. I had to explicitly set the ISO to 100 otherwise it increases it in most of the clicks if left in Auto ISO. White balance is not good, too much yellow for daylight and too much blue for Auto. This one is shot in daylight setting and saturation reduced to -1. Later, toned up the colors in Photoshop express in the phone itself and uploaded.

Nice sunset picture. A bit too warm for my eyes though..
