Amazon prime. 1/5.

No offence, but is someone else “Ghost directing” movies under the Guy Ritchie name these days?
.

Not a patch on his other movies but i enjoyed it as a destress moment with its mindless violence. I enjoyed the opening sequence!

My standards must be really low as I enjoyed The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on account of the swag the actors carried themselves with and the general feel good factor associated with mindless violence. It actually reminded me a bit of Inglourious Basterds - not in way of acting or story but the same mindless shooting of Nazis.

I personally enjoyed watching this war genre movie, may not appeal to all but one time viewing is recommended.

If you guys liked the movie, do try and watch 'SAS: Rogue Heroes', about the origins of the British SAS in WW2.
It's a series and pretty interesting to watch, getting into season 2 pretty soon I hear.

Nice recommendation. Haven't watched it yet. I'm sure it must be very good.

Cold Pursuit
OTT : Amazon Prime
3/5

Coincidentally, just after returning from an epic road trip to Banff National Park in Canada, I happened to stumble upon this movie last week which is shot entirely in this region (British Columbia, Alberta in Canada) while the settings supposedly happened in Kehoe in Colorado in US.

Here is my travelogue from the very same region :

Coming back to the movie, Liam Neeson is always a dependable star and all his movies are definetly watchable. However, this one was just lukewarm and not so interesting with his sole objective is to knock off people who killed his son. Interesting theme of drug wars in the snow capped region which is quite unusual.

I would recommend this movie if you are a fan of Liam Neeson and Antagonist (Tom Bateman who acted quite well) and of course, the spectacular visuals of British Columbia in Winters.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - Lionsgate

For all the fans of Nicolas Cage, this movie is an absolute blast. Watch it for the man who goes berserk playing almost himself and is a riot. The team of Cage and Pedro Pascal entertain and find joy while at it and that’s the most enjoyable part of the movie. Recommended watch.

Rating- 3.5/5

By the way, from the last discussion about horror/thriller movies we watched Coherence and Head Count and liked both! Will give Longlegs a try too.

Axel Foley:

Good attempt in capturing the same feel of the old movies. Had fun watching it.
4/5 just for keeping me entertained :)

Nocturnal Animals:

Honestly this one went way above my numbskull brain. Even after reading the wiki i could not understand it. One dark depressing tone overall in the movie.

Totally agree. Loved this film though the story is a bit silly.
It felt like a tribute to the Cage's career! And the music is so good, especially this song :

Road House (2024), starring Jake Gylenhall available on Prime in US.
I was in a mood for a mindless action movie and this one exceeded my expectations. It's a remake of an old movie that starred Patrick Swayze. I have not see that one so I cannot compare the two, but this one on it's own was quite entertaining. Jake Gylenhall plays the role of Dalton who is an ex-UFC fighter now down on his luck when he is asked to help clean up a bar in Florida from some rowdy elements. Conan McGregor, the real life UFC champion stars in the movie too. The action sequences are well orchestrated, and are littered with comedy. Worth a watch if you just want to watch a movie and eat popcorn.

It was an OK series to be honest. Some of the British bombastic elements were fun but overall not very memorable.

The best scene in the entire series was actually a youtube recommendation that made me watch the series:

I'm watching the 3rd episode as I write this. The clip is from the 1st episode.
I agree it is not the best but as it is about SAS, totally worth a watch.

SAS is much better in books, not so much about it in movies or series as compared to SFs from other countries, say Israel, America etc. There are some epic movies, TV movies about SAS but they are too not popular.

Deadpool and Wolverine.

First of all, what the hell is wrong with Indian sensor board. It's an R- rated movie and still some simple cuss words were beeped. Absolutely moronic.

Anyways. Movie was a fun riot. Ryan Reynolds carry it with his goofiness but Hugh Jackman was fantastic in intense scenes. Both of them made a smashing pair and it showed. I was skeptical if this movie can hold onto it's hype but it surpassed my expectations. Story is weak as anything but who cares about it in such movies which are all about action and fun. Missed the end credit scene as I had to leave as soon as it ended.

Solid - 4.5/5( extra.5 for that innovative opening credit scene)

The Creator (2023) - Disney + Hotstar - 4.5/5

Found this movie while scrolling through Hotstar. Went ahead without reading any reviews and boy, I was in for a surprise.

Absolutely a hidden gem. I will considered this as one of the best sci-fi movies in recent years.

This movie has it all. Beautiful visuals, spectacular CGI & special effects, great character arcs, gripping story and nice performances.

Highly recommend for sci-fi lovers.

2 Movies watched over the last weekend.

Dune 2

Streaming: Jio Cinema

As with the first part, the second part did not make any sense to me. The visuals were Okayish, nothing great to write about but then people here can argue that the movie is meant to be watched on big screen. Acting wise Timothy Chalamet does Ok and so were Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem. The standout for me was Zendaya, I found her acting good. I guess the stage is set for the 3rd installment. Personally I would recommend watching if you are fan of the franchise.

Kingdom of the planet of Apes

Streaming: Disney Hotstar

Was a big fan of the original Planet of the Apes movie but with every sequel the film plot has been going down and this one isnt any better. Lot of things in the movie didnt make sense and left questions. The AI may been the saving grace for the film but acting wise none are worth mentioning/remembering. I hope they end the franchisee with this movie. Disappointed and dissatisfied is what I can say. Not recommended if you still are a fan of the first movie.
