Hi All,

I have a Seiko Prospex Padi Solar SNE435P1 and due to lockdown and less usage and keeping it in watch box, seems battery/capacitor has gone kaput and need a replacement.

Currently i am in my native and no one is ready to replace the battery in my town due to cost factor and not confident as well.

could someone share the correct battery (could be '3023 24Y TS920e' battery Model) and from where i can order it over online. already had my part of research and all sites have suggested different capacitor/battery models.

will be helpful, someone share the exact battery and online link for India.

I have or rather, had Seiko Kinetic which used similar Capacitor. I cannot confirm it's part number. Original Capacitor lasted over Five years. Replacement is not as easy as any other battery which is DIY work. Replacement was located in famous Watch Market at Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. Costed me 600/- with No Warranty or replacement.
It lasted another few years and I was compelled to throw out the movement as I had got a Seiko Japan movement with Day / Date and of exactly correct size. Got it fixed retaining the Original Dial, which covers the Day display.
To summarize, the Capacitor is quite expensive, even if you check it Online. It may not be locally available, except the Service Centre, which are going to rip your pocket.

Thanx and true, it should be priced somewhat near to 4K as per online searches. I have to check it in Chennai local market (Ritche street) to get to know the price and exact battery. will post the updates later.

The Watch I have referred to is shown in my post # 4272, dated 21st May 2020 in this very thread

Yes, in most models that I have seen, the chronograph function would also not work to preserve the battery and to enable the watch to render the basic timekeeping function. Should be ironed out once the battery is replaced.

Thanks sir! Your reply helped me sleep well :D

The battery, Renata 394, arrived today and was replaced (DIY). Everything was good to go. Just that the chronograph needed a reset for some reason as two of the hands were somehow misaligned from 12 o clock mark.

Thanks again.

Saket.

How accurate are Casio G Shock Connect watches which have a Step Tracker function compared to a Mi Band 4 or similarly priced Fitness bands? I currently use a Mi Band 4 and was thinking of buying this Casio G Shock watch.

Casio GShock and Mi band 5

Got hold of a Seiko Diver! SPB143J1 is the Model number. Its a looker no doubt!

HMT Pilot Grey. This watch is not so commonly available on hmtwatches.in

I got this back in 2020. Initially I didn't it so much but after spending few days it started growing on me. Dial is made up of mostly pale colors except for that bright Red seconds hand. I guess this is not going anywhere away from my collection.

There are few watches available right now on hmtwatches.in including couple of variants of Pilot. I could pull trigger on a White Karna just in time before it went out of stock again! :)

And here is a short video about the watch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNQuTxIU790&t=8s

Last year around October, I had replaced got the battery replaced in my quartz Omega Seamaster Aquaterra from a well known shop and Omega dealer in my city. They had given a one year warranty at the time. Sadly the battery stopped working a few days ago, well within the one year.

Since it is an Omega, the charges for changing the battery were exorbitant. And since the shops are closed in my side of town, specially in the malls, I decided to watch a couple of youtube videos and do it myself. Its a simple Renata 373 battery, which costs around Rs. 200 on amazon and a bit of silicon lubricant for the O ring.

Managed to do it myself in 5 minutes and I have now understood how much I have been ripped off over the last couple of years in the name of battery changes.

Better late than never is an old and invaluable advice. You would be surprised to find the cost of battery to be in the range of 20-30 Rs. in the Watch market.

This video is AWESOME!

Granted, I was more impressed with the microscope imagery part of it... but I'm sure you watch enthusiasts will get a good kick out of it too.

Gets good at 4:25
Even cooler at 6:40
Looks like CGI at 11:15
And so on...

Amazing microscope. The Grand Seiko is such a beautiful watch. The textured dial looks wow. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if by charging exorbitant prices for a battery change, even the local watch shops are pushing us for DIYs. Few years ago, I noticed that even the local watchmaker had charged me Rs. 100-120 for changing common batteries like 521, 636, 2025, 2016 etc. which are actually available for half the price on amazon. In fact, 2016 and 2025 are available for as low as 30-40 rupees. I shifted to DIY changes from there on. Recently changed my Tissot watch battery, Renata 394 which I bought for 160/- from amazon.

I happened to chance upon a vintage Favre Leuba Daymatic at my in-laws’ place. It was in a dilapidated state - the hands wouldn’t move, the automatic mechanism was stuck, the case back had metal eaten away at some places. Apparently, this belonged to my grandfather-in-law who had worked in the UN’s peacekeeping force for the country back in the ‘60s. No clue who gave the watch to him or where he purchased it from.

I took the watch to a couple of popular outlets to check if they can repair and restore it. First, the Jamal & Son outlet in Sultanpet, Palakkad. They refused to repair it outright citing it was too old (and probably not worth the time and effort). Next, Zimson Watch Store in Chennai. Their biggest outlet is in T. Nagar. They opened up the case back, quickly closed it and returned saying they can’t do anything either.

There was this small, shady shop next to where I stay in Palakkad. The types that retails small clocks, inexpensive watches, does minor repairs etc. With the least hopes, I gave the watch there and the owner of the shop said he’d try his best but it might take some time. I laughed and left the shop trusting the owners words - I mean if the bigger outlets couldn’t do anything, what good can this guy do?

And guess what? He repaired it! I was totally taken aback when he called me up and asked me to pick up the watch as it’s done! By done, I thought he meant he couldn’t do anything!

Will change the strap and begin using it. Not bad for a first Swiss watch eh? I suppose this must be at least 50-55 years old.
