I have been thinking of a point for some time. Can we take a thread, and see all posts only by 'the starter', example, TSK's or Sam's threads can be a good read (in 1 stretch) if all their back-back posts are seen at a length. Saves the time to read all the oohs and aahs :)

Does the person Thanked for a post, get a Notification?

how about a stumbleupon type button , and posting disabled for "stumbled-upon" threads.
Someone may end up posting a response to a thread last discussed upon TBHP's inception!

Didn't knew about MPower & TheMag.

Believe me, you can't even fathom as to how happy I am with this development.

Thanks again :)

my pleasure, anything for our wonderful forum.
if you want to know who thanked you then click Quick Links on the top right next to logout.
under miscellaneous click My Profile
under the section Forum Info
under Thanks
click on
Find all thanked posts by (your username)
and voila all the posts you were thanked for pop up.
now you can click a post and view who thanked you for it too.
Pretty neat eh!

If we can add a wiki feature to t-bhp it would be awesome. All facts and figures, related test drives all on one page for one car or brand. Magazines are passé, web 2.0 is the way to go!!

Can you please provide the links of any community with a wiki feature enabled? I'd be keen on understanding your suggestion more.

I guess he meant something similar to this: Autopedia. This is just an example, you could browse through thousands of pages which can be edited by anyone: Wikia.

We could have the 'Test Drives' section in a similar manner (it would even be more user-friendly).

@teknicsand and prateekm: +2. Great suggestions. Today applications like Facebook have become popular due to clean and logical organization of user inputs.
Hence there are buttons like 'Like', 'Share', etc in Facebook.
Out here we have taken an evolutionary step by adding the "Thanks" button.
It would be possible to pull out statistics after such implementations and use them further to prioritize posts/ threads/ users etc automatically.

However: Are you referring to replacing vbulletin with a completely different web 2.0 based technology? I have tried searching for such a replacement, but haven't found anything so far.
If the shift is less radical then except the forum most other parts of the site can still be moved to a more modern technology. But in that case, the heart of the site (Forum) will still be the traditional way.
In an ideal scenario, the portal in future could have a section where one could choose a car --> get variant information, get official review, get ownership reviews, get issues pertaining to the car, get used car deal information, get new car pricing information for that car etc, all from a single page.
Also, use of Google maps to mark places for recommendations (Directory forum), or places to stay (Travelogues) or places to fill fuel (Petrol pump thread) could be encouraged.
Any examples that you can think of, kindly share.

Mods, this is regarding quoting posts. If a user's post is quoted then the user gets an automated message about the same. This will help in quick reference and reply also.

Sometimes I missed if someone quoted my post providing information to me or seeking some information. This situaltion particularly arises on 'HOT' treads which get a number of posts in small span of time.

Although there seems some doubt as to whether or not it is implemented yet, it seems to work for me!

Undoubtedly, the Indian Car Sales Figures is an awesome collection of Data which you can never get by any amount of googling on the net. Kudos to the Team for putting in all the effort to compile the data as fast and precise as possible immediately after the close of the month.

Was recently trying to refer to the Indian Car Sales Chart of December 2010. While doing so, realized that Indian Car Sales Figures thread doesn't come under an exclusive sub forum.

However, must admit that, it was not all that difficult to google it up in the Indian car scene section. Just thought it would be nice, In the long run, if the support team could prolly look at creating an exclusive sub forum for the Indian Car Sales Figures which would come handy for some lazzy bones like me. :)

Not sure if this was asked before, but here we go.

Quite few links, especially to other posts on the forum itself, sometimes go dead, due to the post being deleted. Any means of identifying such links and deleting the link or marking the link as invalid?

I guess we are hosted on a *nix site, and quite a few tools to identify bad links exist on *nix; one such tool can be run probably as a cron job once a while?

Looks like the "PM when quoted" functionality is up and running.

Good one!

^^Yup- and the first thing I did- after getting 2 "You've been quoted!!!!!" PMs in 10 minutes was to switch it off from my Profile settings. To each his own, I guess! :)

Yes finally it is up and running.
I too received a You've been quoted PM.
Fantastic and was really implemented really quickly.
I would like to thank GTO and the Mod Team again. Team-BHP just keeps getting better and better.
OT ~ Do we have an appreciation thread?

Good one!

I went to "Edit Options" and selected NO in the section - still getting the PMs.

Is there any other way to shut these off?
