@gd, shoot RAW, this way you can correct green tint easily without needing to desaturate!

shutter speed: 1/4000
aperture: f16

didn't get much of a zoom :(

The first look over Delhi at 12:22 pm

Any Solar Eclipse Chasers?-at1222.jpg

What all could've gone wrong today went wrong. I though that the welder's glass 14 DIN was in the bag, it wasn't. I remembered having removed it and kept in the cupboard. So much for being organised.

After I mounted the camera with the 70-300 on the tripod, its head broke. Fortunately, I was still holding the camera...

So, with handheld after fixing the CPL, set the shutter speed to 1/8000 and F40, turned the focus ring to infinity, switched on the VR for double safety, glanced once at the Red Star through the viewfinder and clicked...phew...

"The eclipse will start at 11.13 am and end at 3.11 pm. In view of the eclipse, employees are advised to avoid consumption of food between 11 am and 4 pm."

That's an extract from an official email sent out to all employees at my colleague's office this morning. The irony: he works in the media!

I'd love to personally throttle people who say such things!!

On my part, I made a big mistake not travelling to my home-town for the eclipse. Could've viewed in totality! And taken pics.

Though I asked a lot of tips for taking pics here in Bangalore, I finally ended up only viewing it through the recommended glasses and no pics. Boohoo!!

I am starving since 9:00 am

Food only after 3:30 pm

Watching it over the Welders glass since 1 hr, very slow, Bangalore's supposed to have Partial Eclipse.

Wonder how freaky it will be at few places when it gets dark all of a sudden.

I forgot about the eclipse. Don't really care much about it and have no superstitions about it.

Left for Namaz at 1:20. As I take the turn, I am wondering why the hell does the moon look so weird and bright.
I was wearing my Ray Ban aviator cat 4 eyeglasses.

Then it suddenly struck me, I was looking right at the eclipse.

But what a view. I am awestruck with the sheer grace of god.

Can only wonder how scared the ancient man must have been. Looking into the sky and suddenly seeing the sun disappear.

I think the cloudy day in Hyderabad actually enabled me to see the sun without (hopefully) any damage to my eyes.

I took some pics exactly @ 1.20pm. It's just a partial solar eclipse in BLR.
At present i'm unable to load pics.

pics were taken as follows.

Before shooting here is what you can do
1. Select lowest ISO
2. Select fastest shutter speed(eg 1/8000)
3. Prefocus to a far away object
4. Set aperture to F9 or so
5. If you have a IR or X-Ray filter use it, otherwise a simple ND filter may also do. But best to get an xyay film and put it in front of cam.

I have IR filter-> Here are my eclipse pics

Details
Manual mode ,
f -8
ISO - 80
Shutter speed - 1/3200

Hand held camera directly towards sun, but as I have CANON S5IS, Rotated the LCD screen, saw the sun thru it and took a pic.
Didn't expose the camera lens for more than 2 secs towards sun.
