Re: Birth Certificate Help

In Karnataka, you can download a digitally signed birth certificate from https://sevasindhuservices.karnataka.gov.in/ by paying Rs 5.

The hospital had told that we'd need to visit some BBMP office to collect the certificate after 15 days. In our case though, the name was already decided and had filled the same in the birth reporting form that the hospital had provided.

Earlier today I was casually browsing and came across the eJanma portal which linked to Sava Sindhu. I proceeded to apply and was surprised to see my baby's birth record reflecting when searched using the DOB and Name (you can also search with parent's name). I proceeded to apply and paid the Rs 5 fee. (Had to try a few times, as payment was erroring out). The application then showed as Under Process, and I checked a few hours later and I could download the digitally signed certificate.

Not sure why the hospital didn't mention this as an option. It could be that majority of the folks probably do not name the baby immediately and hence a separate request would be necessary to include the name. I was so used to the digitised and open process in Kerala, where you could just download such certificates (birth, death, marriage) without paying any fee and on-demand. So was happy to a see a similar completely online process in Bangalore/Karnataka albeit with some more hops.

Does this 'Digitally signed birth certificate' (DSBC) suffice for future documentation like school admission, Bal Aadhar or passports? Asking as I have the DSBC but not the Form-5 that is shared only if one visits the BBMP office.

The digitally signed birth certificate is also a valid "Form-5", I've attached the top portion of the certificate.

We didn't face any issue in applying for Aadhaar or Passport with the digitally signed birth certificate. I had wrote about the passport application process in another thread. (Applying for an Infant / Minor's Passport - Details *here*) There was not even a shred of concern at any stage of the application process due to the birth certificate lacking the traditional seal or signature. The passport application was submitted at a PSK in a different state too.

Re: Birth Certificate Help

From my birth (pre 1985), I don't seem to have a birth certificate (Karnataka). Would anyone in the forum guide me on how can I get one now?

I have tried lawyers and agents, however, no one has been able to confirm if I can get one. On a side note, all my other documents like Aadhar, PAN, passport, school leaving certificate, etc. have the same date of birth.

VarkeyJi, very grateful for your help here. I have been able to obtain the digitally signed birth certificate for my 2 y/o. Now, I shall proceed for the passport application in accordance with the instructions you outlined in the above quoted thread!
