Re: Applying for an Infant / Minor's Passport - Details *here*

Hi everyone, I plan to get a passport for my 6 month old boy.

1. Me and my wife haven't endorsed each other on the passport
2. My wife and I have different cities/addresses on the passport (Wife - Pune, Self - Chennai). We currently live in a different address (Chennai, but different than the one on my passport -this reflects in my aadhaar and bank statements, but not my wife's - her passport has the Pune address)

Can the application be done in one go, with the marriage certificate, current proof of address, and both our passports (given the addresses are different and not the same as our current address?)

Tried the FAQs on the website, but did not get a clear answer. If anyone has gotten it done with a similar case, please go let me know

Re: Applying for an Infant / Minor's Passport - Details *here*

My case was a bit different but may give you some pointers:
My passport was expired, my wife wasn't having passport. I applied for renewal along with my wife and son's fresh passport. Since both parent's valid passport was required (otherwise there is a form to give consent - ANNEXURE ‘C’), passport officers processed our application first, followed by my son's application. Passport officer mentioned file number of our passport in my son's passport application. They also wanted Aadhaar card with the updated current address.
Once applied, we got passport in one and half days (Normal Application)

I see, thanks for this. Was any one of your passports (parents) address matching with your current address? In my case, my passport has my old address (Adyar, Chennai), whereas I now reside in a new place in Chennai (My Aadhaar/property tax/electricity bills etc reflect the new address).

My concern was whether this can be done in one sitting, or do I need to first get my passport re-issued.

My passport and my wife's passport were from old address taken few years ago. We applied for our son's minor passport in new address an year ago. It was accepted and issued. You just have to present both parents passport and one parents AADHAR and kid AADHAR as current address proof.

My passport was having my old home address. While renewing the passport, I opted for address update in the application form. My wife didn't have a passport, so she applied for a fresh passport. We also had all our ID/Address proofs with the new home address (similar to your case).

I had / have exactly same situation as yours - my wife's passport is from her hometown, mine is from my hometown - two different states. We actually live in a third city for which I only have rental lease (not valid as address proof). We had our daughter's passport made when she was less than 1 year old in june this year.

In our daughter's case, her birth certificate, issued locally where we live now and where her passport was applied for, we used as proof of her DoB. For residential address proof, which needed to be same as the place of issue, our gas booklet (blue-colored, issued by indane) in my name was accepted. All my other proofs are from my hometown and I didn't get anything changed.

I have to say I was very impressed by the efficiency of the PSK. We were in and out of the facility within an hour. We were not made to wait anywhere as our daughter was only several months months old, so given priority at each window or a separate window entirely was indicated. When the process ended, and we (basically I) met the MEA official I thought we may have missed something, but no, we were done.

So at least in our case, having two different addresses and passports not endorsed in the spouse's name didn't matter. I did carry our marriage certificate as proof of being married to each other (also because wife and I have different surnames - basically other than that one certificate, there is no legal proof of being married to each other), but am not sure anyone even looked at it.

If you have the above, then I don't see why reissue of passport will be required.

Re: Applying for an Infant / Minor's Passport - Details *here*

I finally successfully completed my application and the passport verification. Here is my scenario (a little not-so-straightforward), which might help others:

My Passport: From Chennai, has address C1 (I do not reside here currently)
My Spouse: From Pune, has address P
My Aadhar: Chennai address, but C2 (where we currently reside)
Wife's Aadhar: Pune address P

Both had not endorsed our spouse's name on our passport.

Visit 1: Appointment was taken on my kid's name. Entry was smooth, crossed counters "A" and "B", but the Govt. officer at counter "C" did not accept the entry, as she wanted at least one of the parents to endorse the spouse's name (and have the current address in it). This was despite us giving Aadhar Proof/Marriage Certificate etc. The application was put on hold, and I opened a new appointment to get my passport amended

Visit 2: Was quite a breeze, I went in to get my spouse's name endorsed and the address changed - only Aadhar was checked. I got my application reference number (ARN), using which I could book another appointment for my kid (I did not know I could have simply booked my kid's appointment on this date itself to get both done in one shot).

Visit 3: Went in for re-submission of my kid's documents, was quite smooth - we had to show parent's passports, baby's birth certificate, marriage certificate (from Pune), Aadhar cards. Important thing to note is that I did not have to wait for my passport to arrive to apply for my baby's passport. They process the application using the parent's ARN/file number.

To my pleasant surprise, I got a call while on the way back from PSK to my residence from a police officer for verification of both our applications. That was then done the same evening, all extremely professional

Now, awaiting the printing and dispatch of the passports.

Fast passport issuance at the PSK in Cochin

We had scheduled the visit to the PSK for our 3 month old daughter's passport yesterday, this was at Aluva, Cochin PSK. There doesn't seem to be any rush at this PSK, and appointments were available for the next day whenever I had checked. Although I had filled in the application couple of weeks ago, we didn't get time to get the photo taken so had deferred scheduling the appointment. I opted for the "Normal" issuance and not Tatkaal as we weren't in a hurry, plus from recent experience, even in normal mode, it's pretty fast. Also, I don't think we had enough documents for Tatkaal as her Aadhaar is still not issued (pending for 45+ days).

Prep Work

1. Getting the photo taken

We felt taking the pic at home would be easier than visiting a photo studio. We laid her down on a low height table with a thick white cloth. The room had couple of ceiling lights so the lighting seemed fine from above. Luckily there were couple of shots where she had her eyes open and looking almost straight at the camera. We selected three of them, and removed the background using an online tool (seemed easier and it came out perfect). I then used PhotoPea, my go to image editor, to get the photo in the right format, dimensions etc and got it printed at a local shop.

We probably didn't need to get all three printed, as I had read that the photo requirements are relaxed for infants (< 12 months) anyway. Just in case they said our preferred photo was not acceptable, thought it was better to have alternate options.

2. Birth Certificate

I had got the digitally signed birth certificate through Seva Sindhu portal (Karnataka). I wrote about the experience in another thread (Birth Certificate Help).

Documents

1. Birth certificate - Printed the digitally signed certificate
2. Annexure D - Filled the template available on Passport Seva website
3. Copy of both parents passports

I think our case was most straight forward wrt to existing passport and address
  • Both of us have valid passports with spouse's name endorsed
  • No change in address

Appointment Day

Appointment was at 4:45 PM with a reporting time of 4:30 PM. Reached the PSK exactly at 4:30 PM, and surprisingly we even got four wheeler parking right in front of the PSK (out of the 3 visits to the same PSK in the past, this is the first time I got parking space ). There was absolutely no queue, just showed the appointment slip (thought it would be easier to have it on paper rather than SMS) to the security and we were in.

All the docs were in order, except that they wanted the copy of first page of our passports (the one where the issuing passport office stamp is given). Took this from the photocopy counter within the PSK, paid Rs 4 (2 per sheet). They didn't raise an objections with the photo, I was a bit worried as daughter's mouth was slightly open in our preferred photo. While I was at the first counter, the PSK staff promptly allowed my wife and daughter to be seated in the waiting area inside. At 4:34 PM, the token was issued.

There was no one else waiting so we were sent straight away to the A counter. Everything was promptly scanned and processed without any delay. The most surprising part was that in my passport issued four years ago, there was a small typo in the address, which I never noticed these many years!
So they selected my wife's passport as proof of address. They also took my daughter's thumb print on the form, it appeared soo tiny.

After that we were directed to B and C counters, there was no waiting and the helping staff said only one of us needed to go to the counter. So I went with the file while my wife and daughter were seated in the waiting area. Everything was quick, and we were out by 4:45 PM.

It took exactly 15 minutes from exiting the car, and back inside the car (parking space right near the entrance helped too).

We were both amazed at how fast the whole process got completed. Maybe the evening slot helped with the PSK being less crowded. Prior to the visit, I had gone through the recent Google reviews of the PSK, and there were couple of reviews where people were disappointed with the time taken and the documentation requested at this PSK, and the Google rating is only a 3.9 now. So was a bit apprehensive about delays and whether our daughter would be fussy, but luckily everything was smooth and our daughter was calm and happy the whole time.

I just checked the application status and it said printing has been completed. So most likely will be dispatched today and delivered tomorrow or the day after.
