I find Laxman SivaRamaKrishnan's commentary such a big bore. Almost makes me feel low. I just hope he never comes in a 20-20 match.

After today's match (T-20) Ind vs NZL im was right about not liking Ravi Shastri!

2 out of the last 3 balls, Brendon hits for boundary. No word from him. India has the lost the match instead of saying Brendon was great he says that it was a lost opportunity for India blah blah! Come out of India thingy, Ravi!

Tough choice between Arun Lal and Ranjit Fernando. But Ranjit's english is quite ordinary, so he gets my vote.
But the list is almost all bad:

Arun Lal is very political, and no substance
Sidhu - Plain irritating and idiotic most of the time. Obnoxious man - a big turn off for me.
Shastri - He was good but has become an 'extraordinary patriot' in the company of another such 'patriot',Gavaskar - very biased commentary.
Rameez Raja - makes fun of his own countrymen and brings them down. He enjoys doing that a lot.
Siva - largely unbiased commentary but lacks authoritative presence.
Maninder singh - no substance
Manjrekar - pseudo intellectual talk, once had the guts to come out and say that Sachin does not play match winning innings - since then has gone to the opposite direction in praising sachin. He has realised which side the bread is buttered.

Under others:
Gavaskar - very very poor sense of humour. The jokes are so pathetic that you end up laughing for all the wrong reasons
Charu Sharma - less said the better
Hindi commentators - this, gentlemen, is pure unadulterated comedy - 'unke haath mein balla aisa hai jaise shri krishna ke haath mein bansuri thi' - can you beat that?
Atul wassan - very ordinary-nothing special
Mohinder amarnath - does he knock off a few drinks in the studio itself?
K Srikanth - The joker. If the selectors are a bunch of jokers, now we have a chief joker.

The shining beacon of light is Harsha Bhogle. The best commentator we have.
We now have a Harsha Bhogle copycat in NEO sports - R Sreenivasan -horrible imitation and nowhere as good.

Guys,

We guys have forced Mohinder Amarnath to leave his job as commentator and join 'Jhalak Dhikhla Ja' a dance reality show

Such is influence of BHPians

I have posted the same on Cricket Thread aswell, just that I am feeling good about this.

Blame BCCI

TV channels win telecast rights after paying thru' their nose and still expect them pay for quality commentary? Quality costs money.

If commentary is bad, will it affect their chances of winning telecast rights next year?

The solution is BCCI will appoint & pay commentary team based on findings of expect committee.

Ranjit Fernando gets my vote. Arunlal gives him a good fight. Regarding the content of their commentary :The former always praises his own countrymen and the latter is too diplomatic.

Both of them speak uninspiringly

Among the present day commentators, it may be Arun Lal; but the worst ever would be Vizzy (Maharaja of Vijayanagaram), who used to be a commentator on All India Radio long time before TV made its appearance in India.

This may be slightly off the track. Sorry for that.

for me

RITCHIE BENAUD for me with his intricate observations & years of commenting experience he is the best among the lot (ala don bradman of commenting world) along with BILL LAWRY (the immicable style of aussie drift).....poised note from both in evaluating a cricketing string piece

If you watched SMax today, it has now become worse. Amarnath came on for 15 mins and rambled about his exploits on the dance floor. We were subject to a peek show of his dance practise and his performace on the stage on live television
