Guys, Lamborghini Gallardos catching fire is quite common. I mean, do a gogole search and you'll know what I mean. There seems to be a very high number of these incidents. They had even showed it on Top Gear.

I think it has something to do with the cooling. Maybe the cooling of the high performance V10 engine isnt good at slow speeds and works very well only at high speeds.

You are right about a car coming out of the airport catching fire-it was a tourist Tata Indigo which caught fire near the airport on Monday morning.Pg 2 of The Hindu carried the story with the pic.

Flaming Lamborghini!

Today's TOI has a news item on a Lamborghini Gallardo, which went up in flames at Chennai airport.Apparently the car was being run on idle to exhaust the fuel remaining in the tank prior to airlifting it back to Milan after the expo at Sriperumbudur. If this is correct and the engine overheated due to prolonged standstill running at low revs, wouldnt the engine have siezed ? Surely in such a technologically advanced car there would be some safety systems to prevent the event that seems to have occured.Wonder what the truth of the matter is.Any ideas?

Any more details? A car cannot go into flames running on low revs for a prolonged period.

And that too, a Lambo, crazy. Must have been something else.

Do you think the Lambo needs to be idling the entire night to drain out fuel, given the gas guzzlers they are? Is there something fishy here?

There are lots of ways to remove fuel fro the vehicle.Just tell the shivajinagar(in Bangalore)/any mechanics and they will do it within a blink of an eye. Simple way is to put a pipe and suck the fuel out

The car is not registered in india to be auctioned here, there were running on foriegn plates and were brought down only for the track event. I doubt they would ever get anything from the burnt remains.

There is something called an international car insurance for driving abroad, they should have taken it.

Airport officials actually kept the engine running all night to burn the fuel! .. Obviously the car would heat up withought any air coming in for the engine to breathe.
So much wastage of fuel!

but the question raised is why was car being idled for, thats not the only way to drain out fuel within.

Idling a lambo to drain out the fuel in the engine? . Might sound rude and , but the owner deserves his/ her car burnt to ashes!

Wonder which one is this. This has happened due to the casual attitude of the Lambo team. They should have ensured these basic stipulations are taken care of. How could they have left so much petrol in the tank, I could have used it up for them.
