TVS are better than RANE i have used them both, but not on Swift. My Next upgrade is BOSCH. I hope BOSCH lasts for more than 20K KM

Swift OE pads (TVS I think) are pretty good. Even if Bosch pads last half as that OE, still I'll be saving on money compared to the OE pads cost!

Its semi-synth though.

For diesel, double check if u can use super-synthetic oil. Cos, viscosity might be too low.

i'll second that, the dealer has advised me not to go for mobil 1 esp on the diesel as the turbo is prone to failure.. don't know why?? any feedback would be gr8

Re: Brake Pads..

All,
My Linea MJD OE brake pads have finally worn out at ~ 38400 KM.
I had received a quote for ~INR 3500 for parts and labour.
I have read the above posts on Bosch Brake Pads.
Bosch - Braking Systems

Since the last post has been more than 18 months old, how has your experience been with the Bosch Brake Pads, how many KMs have you done so far?

Looking forward to your feedback.

Re: Brake Pads..

All,

I called one of the two dealers for Bosch Brake Pads as per the Bosch India Website.
They confirmed that Bosch does not have pads for the Linea.

Any other brands, contacts that are available would be very appreciated for brake pads.

Re: Brake Pads..

You can probably check with Pete's if they have any aftermarket pads for the Linea.

Re: Brake Pads..

All

Had to wander around for a fairly long time trying to source a set of brake pads. Explained below.

Changed at 39000 KMs.
Current at ~ 40400 KMs.

Removed the existing original brake pads for reference, and was able to get two brands that were the same size.

Brand 1. Axxis - very light and fit and finish was very sad. ~ 1500 per set of 4.
Brand 2. Dan Block - Had a nice heavy feel, fit and finish looked very good. ~ 2000 per set of 4.

The confusion started when the clip on the pad sitting on the piston side was found to be different from OEM - this is from Galfer - i hope i got the spelling correct.
Lost a day in worrying about the same.

Then had the calliper head opened and realised the clip is just a clip to fit in the cup of the piston to hold it in place and that it should not (hopefully) matter at all.

Beyond this there are many guides that also help the brake pad stay in place.

So finally went in for Dan Block, and they are running as of now. Have to tweak the brake modulation at the pedal a bit. But otherwise seemingly fine so far. Having said that have done ~ 1400 KMs only post the change.

Also found out about another source two days after changing to Dan Block - Vijay Seth from Kavaa Automobiles - Mumbai.
He has with him two brands
1. Magneti Marelli - INR 2000 Per Set
2. OEM - I assume this is Galfer - INR 2600 Per Set.

On a different note: The procedure to change is pretty DIY, if you have the tools.
1. Remove Wheel
2. Use Allen Key of correct size to remove the Calliper Head.
3. Use either a C clamp or a thick heavy srew driver to pust the piston back.
4. Remove old brake pads.
5. Insert new brake pads.
6. Modulate the piston travel before tightening the allen bolts.
7. Fix wheels.
8. Can take upto 45 minutes if one is sure how to go about it.
9. Labour at Bangalore - can vary from INR 200 to INR 400 depending on the private mechanic you go to.
9. DIY videos available online.

How much does the Tata-Fiat A.S.C charge for the brake pads - only the pads , not the labour ?

Re: Brake Pads..

@sdp1975

The ASC charges INR2700 for the pads. This used to be iNR 1400 during 2009 and 2010.
The labour is around ~ INR 700

The Dan Block, i believe i got ripped, it should not cost more than ~ INR 1000.
First time, so will look out better next time. I am also considering buying 4 or 5 pad sets and keeping them.

1. These (I think) do not have a shelf life.
2. Prices for everything is going only one way - UP.
3. My income is not increasing at the same percentage.

Re: Brake Pads..

All Linea Owners,

Just a thought, i had spoken to Kavaa Automobiles, and he had reduced the price per set of brake pads on the Magneti Marelli if i was buying more.

I am wondering if anybody at Bangalore or other places would like to join and do a group buy and get a better price.

I am willing to buy 4 - 5 sets.

If anybody is interested, please PM/post/write.

Re: Brake Pads..

Its time to change the pads again. At 72000KMs, ~ 33000KM a little less than OEM pads which lasted ~ 39000 KMs, again that would depend heavily on the driving environment. And can have nothing to do with the pad quality.

This time i am thinking of looking at Rolunds from www.99rpm.com

Pedal travel and modulation are very important while installing the brakes. And this can tremendously impact feel of/ and braking.

Re: Brake Pads..

So I am ripped off by the dealer besides Raja Paints, Gurgaon by selling Semyong front disc pads for 1200 while Bosch is available on Amazon (Cloud tail Prime fulfilled) for 695 besides other offers.

Is Semyong really worth it?
