Brake Pads..

Well finally time to replace my cars brake pads, after they worked fine for 30k kms. The OE pads from Skoda cost Rs.3500 a set, so m thinkin if i should get them or get any other better ones if available.

I've also been thinin abt this for sometime now, that if i shuld switch from Shell Synthetic to Mobil1.

And i'll be in HYD and BLR in a few weeks so would be nice if u could tell me from which place/shop i an pick them up from..

Karthik

Pls Contact Turbo India (pete) .. He imports various varieties of Brake pads/rotors/calipers for all vehicles - I am sure he has a lot of choices for the Skoda since he does a lot of performance enhancement work on them - Brakes are integral to this1

now reg the OIKL : I did a search on these forums and found a lot of links to various efficiency tests conducted on different oils available inteh market place. Most of them clearly showed Mobil 1 to be far superior to shell.. I therefore went in for Mobil1 - man the engine is smoooth now!

here is a link ... Google it and you will find many more!

Das, Thanks for your input. Yet another question, what would be the oil change interval if synthetic oil is used?.

Why don't u try OWS 10W40 oil for ur Octy 1.9TDi?
Its semi-synth though.

For diesel, double check if u can use super-synthetic oil. Cos, viscosity might be too low.

The oil change interval would increase, and for the 16-valve 1.3 swift engine. I think u can use the OWS 5W50 for 15000kms without problems.

My ikon 1.3 used OWS 10W40 oil for 15000kms without a problem.

Sethu, how many kms has ur swift done? I'd suggest u fill synthetic oil only after 5000kms of running in. Call me if u need the oil, i'll source the stuff out for u.

Ive been using mobil 1 on my c class for the last 3 years now and i usually do a change after every 10,000 Km . The service assist on my display says it would last a lot longer usually about 12K or 13K Km but its reccomended that you change it about every 10K.
Now imm driving a diesel motor so imm not too sure about the gap on a petrol or if it should even make a difference.
It would be interesting to know tho, since imm planning a synth swap on my esteem too .. any ideas anyone ?

10K km is the interval specified for changing the non synthetic MGA oil in the swift,Esteem and the Baleno.

That means the Mobil1 Supersyn does not actually last longer. at 2.2k INR for 4 litres every 10K km, it's not a cheap proposition.
Let's Hope it's worth it.

Yup!1... 10 k it is!1... most of these super synthtic oils may claim an interval of 15 k between change ... but then thats there.. here for our weather/roads/traffic conditions etc stick to 10k and your engine will thank you for it!

For the mineral oil users 5K intervals please - no matter what anyone says!

Interesting. All the manufacturers recommend a 10K interval for their MPFI cars..Maruti , Hyundai, Ford etc.. and they fill the car with Mineral oil.
I wonder how many of us actually get the car serviced before the 10K limit or change the oil after every 5k by our own accord.
