STANADYNE Diesel Fuel Additives

For many years I have been a user of System D and also keep recommending the same to many people who post problems related to Dirty Fuel/ injectors and anything similar in the Diesel Fuel System.

Over time System D has become difficult to buy and I have seen many people searching for it without success. You actually need to know exactly which pump stocks it and then go there.

Also there was very less I knew in terms of its technical specifications and what all can it achieve apart from it being a Detergent based additives but was doing a perfect job of cleaning the Fuel System. Not trying to Demean System D as it was doing its job and is still trusted and used by many including myself.

But its difficult availability lead me to look for alternatives over last few weeks as I usually give a dose of cleaning during mid-year, looked at BG, bardhal, STP, Amro etc etc, wasnt convinced since the capability details available are very limited and they are primarily from Additives manufacturers and some are even difficult to source here. My search went on and then...

Enters STANADYNE, Diesel additives from an OEM Fuel System manufacturer endorsed by many Car Manufacturers in the USA.

Stanadyne diesel fuel additives are the only ones in the world that are:
• Made by a fuel injection systems manufacturer
• Tested and approved by major diesel engine and vehicle manufacturers
• Proven to perform best in independent tests

Stanadyne diesel fuel additives protect and improve the performance of all diesel fuel injection systems, including:
• High pressure common rail
• Unit Injectors
• Rotary distributor pumps
• In-line pumps

Stanadyne fuel additives are safe for use with:
• Catalytic converters
• Exhaust particulate filters

Now lets look at their "Brahma Astra" Specifications :

One additive to rule them all , One additive to find them,
One additive to cure them all and in the darkness enlight them

Performance Formula®
• Cold Weather Protection - reduces diesel pour point up to 40°F (22°C), and cold filter plug point by up to 25°F (13°C), depending on base fuel
• Hot Weather Protection - lubricants and cetane improver help when fuel is hot and “thin”
• Increases Horsepower - with up to 5 point cetane gain to improve combustion, resulting in better acceleration, power and torque
• Reduces Fuel Consumption - independent tests show gains up to 9.6% in MPG
• Easier and Faster Starting - in all conditions
• Reduces Smoke and Particulate Emissions - and is suitable for ultra low sulfur diesel
• Cleans and Protects - detergents and deposit modifiers help protect injection pumps, injectors, nozzles, etc.
• Reduces Wear - lubricity improvers restore lubricity to ultra low sulfur and other low lubricity diesel fuels
• Helps Remove Water - special demulsifiers cause tiny water droplets to come out of suspension/emulsion, so the filter/separator can more effectively remove water
• Specially Formulated for use with ultra low sulfur diesel fuel
• Can be used with Bio Diesel Fuel (up to B20, or 20% bio content)

They also have other additives too to suit specific needs as below.

I couldn't believe we had something like this available which is designed to tackle virtually any diesel fuel related problem that we have ever heard or known and wanted to vanish. This is definitely the "One" Additive for me for sure.

But now came a BIG Question Mark, its a US based company, how will I get it here but some more hours researching and mailing, I found that they have their Fuel Equipment Manufacturing Plant in Chennai and all their service dealers(ONLY) sell their additives, not available through other retail vendors. Check with their Service dealers for availability.

A Quality additive, available in India, voilà. Clean Engine is a Happy Engine.

PS: Am not associated with them in Anyway.

Re: STANADYNE Diesel Fuel Additives

I have my doubts about the efficacy of these cure all solutions. Take the claims with a healthy pinch of salt!

AC Delco India website also says they have System-D.

URL was: http://www.acdelco-india.com/images/...e_products.pdf

But yet to go around searching for this. Their website is also currently on upgrade.

Re: STANADYNE Diesel Fuel Additives

For all those who are in Delhi/NCR, especially near South Delhi, the System-D is available at the BP petrol pump towards Shanti Path.

Re: STANADYNE Diesel Fuel Additives

I was also facing problem with availability of System D. Started using the diesel additive sold by IOC petrol pumps (manufactured by Total and sold in 20 (Rs17) and 40ml (Rs 32 or 34) pouch.

Using this for last 6 month - found no difference compared to System D. But not all IOC pumps keep them.

BTW how much this stanadyne additives costs?

I searched and its recommended by VW, GM and Dodge in US. Infact in one of the user forums, someone quoted the VW Owners manual which recommended using it.

But yes, one needs to use it to believe it and I am.

They had 8oz bottles only(its imported from US) with a INR price sticker on it for Rs.395. The same is sold in US for around $4.36.

Most additives that are sold in the market are from either pure Additive manufacturing companies or Oil companies who ventures into Additives markets. This is the first engineering organization who are into Engine Fuel System manufacturing and also additives to keep them clean.

Re: STANADYNE Diesel Fuel Additives

Am sorry but I am not too techincally sound about the additivies and current diesel engines nor have I used any additive before.

In a layman's language -

1. Can this be used in my Vento TDI 1.6L diesel?
2. Should I go ahead with using this?
3. How will it actually benefit in a day to day basis?
4. Has anyone used it for Vento TDI?
5. I always do tank full and once it reaches to the end then again tank full. This helps me calculate the mileage also everytime I refuel. So, my each diesel refill is anything between 45-50ltrs. So, how much of this additive is required? Can/Should this be used everytime I refuel?

Regards,
Aniket

My answers are purely based on the data gathered from their product brochure and website.

1. It can be used for any type of Diesel engine, including CRDI's.
2. Your choice.
3. Cold & hot Weather Protection, Increases Horsepower, Reduces Fuel Consumption, Easier and Faster Starting - in all conditions, Reduces Smoke and Particulate Emissions. See details here.
4. Other Vento owners can comment here.
5. Performance Formula @2ml/ltr, Performance Junior Formula @1ml/ltr(see differences in the benefits in first post). Yes, it can be used on a daily basis.
