hi,
i searched this forum for information for use of LEDs in car for lighting and indication but couldnt find any. so request all to provide info about this. lamps are a big electrical load in a car and by using leds we can drastically reduce electrical power consumption. i have modifed the stock interior lighting of my baleno to leds; six of them give nice cool white light which is brighter than stock. also i have put in another type in the dicky, and its lit like a stadium. now i am thinking and searching for headlight and fog light replacement. with the present kind of leds i went through they can be used for city lighting very well. it cannot be used on highways as the lights diffuse fast. they can be used for fog lights. will post the pictures as soon as possible. i dont know how to post it in garage. tried attaching as given in announcement but could not paste link.
I use a single LED based torch when i am at work, where normally i used to carry around the 4 cell maglite, the battery last a week( in maglite i replace every second day)

yup..LED is the way to the future to reduce the electrical load on the vehicles and thereby increase power..

We could find many european cars with LED brake lights etc..but it is yet to take off in India...

Gigy would be happy if youi could explain the conversion process for the benefit of fellow Tbhpians..

LEDs are the future. no case of fusing, much better illumination & low power consumption. add on top that u can have the light of ur choice :D

i bought white leds six of them each costing 40rs, wired three in series with a 330ohms 2 watt resistor and soldered all in a pcb. it is small enough to fit inside baleno stock fitting inside. i used the small connections fron household switches to make contact ends so that it can be inserted into the lamp holder firmly. you can also just wire it directly. i inserted them for convience. can anytime pull it out, the leds are rated at 4.5v each so will work fine with engine running also.
the one i put in dicky was a rady made strip costing 400rs. just stuck it with double sticking tape insside. will post the photos soon.
for use of fog lights i am looking at more powerful leds, each costing 400 rs and more. i think a minium of 4 will be required.

hey gigy...
can you give me the exact details of the led`s used inside your car..in the sense...size nd also the one that you used for the torch...nd are those readily available in the market??....

these are the pictures of led installed in my car. i bought them from lamington road in mumbai.
i think the shop name is led house or house of leds.
the guy who sits in the shop is a real dumb fellow. you have to literally force him to sell leds. he just seems not interested in selling.

the other images. dont know why this didnt come with earlier one

the last one. i am having some problem in unloading

hey gigy.. impressive stuff.but unable to see your images..pls repost..

sorry for the poor resolution.those were from cellphone inside car park.its dark now. will take tomorrow in day light and post.

these are photos of the led used in torch. since they are high power ones it needs to be in touch with metal to discipate heat.

i am reposting the car dicky light photo when switched on and off

this is picture of led i used in the brake lights. cost 10 each. you will need 8 of them. 180 milliamps is the current drain,

[gigy]
have you used 3 watt luxeon leds ???
i am planning to us them in my car
