Ah, got another lap time comparison. I'm comparing the 2005 Shanghai MotoGP Qualifying lap time against a Formula 1 car's 2004 qualifying lap time. Partly bcoz the F1 season hasn't hit China in 2005 and partly bcoz it shows how a 2004 F1 car compares to a 2005 MotoGP bike (around a track).

Shanghai 2005 Moto GP
Pole Lap Time - Sete Gibernau - 1'59.710

Shanghai 2004 F1
Pole Lap Time - Rubens Barrichello - 1'34.012

As you can see, a 2005 MotoGP bike is still 25 secs slower (per lap) than a 2004 F1 car. Heck, even a 2004 Minardi (slowest F1 car) posted a lap time, 19 secs quicker than the quickest 2005 MotoGP bike.

And it's not that the bike wasn't fast enuf. While Sete managed a top speed of 338.8kmph, the F1 car fell short at 330kmph.

For the record, a MotoGP bike has a better power to weight ratio than an F1 car.

The moto GP race was rained out this year and even other wise, the weathe was bad, so I dont think its a fair comparison. Overall, cars are faster...no doubt about that.

Well, in the wet, these bikes were posting 2'13-2'16 sec laps. The Pole position time was obviosly in the dry.

Check out the other lap times i've posted on the first page. The F1 car is faster by 20+ secs on almost every circuit they share.

Well we all must have seen on TOPGEAR the aeriel ATOM beating the sports bike by 4 seconds on the same track on the same lap,
straight line speed there could be a battle, but cornering 4 wheels easily gets more kick out of corners.

but 20 seconds difference in F1 and MOTO GP tiomes, this will be well expained if we have a head to head on the same track between F1 and MOTOGP

Are we still arguing this point? Its been proven over and over again that 4 wheels is way quicker than 2 wheels on a track.

Nah, I wouldn't count that race. With Jeremy behind the wheel of an Atom, i'm sure they must have edited the whole race. He's just an average driver on track.

I'm not saying the Atom is slow but, unless a pro driver races it against a bike, we'll never know what the real diff is.

Moderator Note: It is proven that cars are faster than bikes on a track. Ideally, the topic should be closed. But we shall still give our biker friends a chance to prove that bikes can be faster than cars on a track. Therefore this thread shall remain unlocked.

If a stock Optra beat your bike in 100mtrs, there's no way your bike is doing 0-100 in under 10 secs.

An Optra takes more than 200meters to even hit 100kmph. if your bike wasn't able to keep up for even 100m, then you do the math.

Man, the Vtec itself takes 170m to hit 100kmph in 9.9 secs.

If you really believe that your bike did a 0-100 in less than 10 secs (on that particular day), then the rate at which the Optra was travelling, it should have finished 100 in 5-6 secs.

You don't have to think that far. Pulsar 180 dtsi vs Ford Ikon 1.6 is all it takes.

NHC vs Pulsar 180 Dtsi - that'll be a good one.
