Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

My cheverolet cruze-2010 - yearly maintenance between Rs. 10-25K which I think is not bad at all considering 12 year old vehicle with 75K on the ODO. Trusted FNG helps keep this upkeep cost in check. ASC would have been very expensive. It is not available though as they have left Indian market.

Planning to keep the car till 2025 after which I doubt if RTO will extend the registration of diesel cars.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

With Maruti, it's not costing me more than 10k a year. Brezza is just fill it, shut it, drive it. It does it's job as it's meant to do.

However, I have noticed Maruti's service cost has gone up since the lock down. Last service, which is obviously the paid one, costed me 12,100 this time around because of labour charges which was close to 4,500. While it is justifiable considering service centers are recovering the lost money, Maruti no way retains the image of frugality in costs anymore.

To put things into perspective, my friend paid 7.5k for his fortuner's s service inclusive of labour and engine oil consumables

Swift Dzire Diesel which runs ~1500km/month

Every 10k paid service: Rs. 6000-9000 (with synthetic engine oil)
Every 10k WA/WB/rotation: Rs. 1000
Tyre replacement: Rs. 25000 (once every 50000km)
Battery replacement: Rs. 5000 (once every 5-7 years)
Insurance premium: ~Rs. 13000 per year (reducing)
Occasional 3M cleaning: Rs. 5000

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

For my Linea - now sold (Diesel), this was around 20-25k.

Annual Service - between 10 and 15K
Wear and Tear expenses were slightly on the higher side - Tires changes every 30-35k kms and brake pads every 20k -30k kms etc adding up another 10k annually.

For Honda City (current ride - bought used), yet to experience as I am still in my first year of ownership, but I would expect it to be somewhere between 15 and 20k.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

Is this where small Maruti owners come to flex?

Excluding fuel and insurance.

Including tyres (3 new tyres) and accidental damage repair (bumper clips and one broken ORVM). All work including tyre alignment/balancing at Toyota A.S.S

Rs. 7872/year. Though the last service bill was inflated by Rs. 1482/- by useless add-ons that sneaked into the bill.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

2010 Accord: 5.5k per year for full synthetic oil + air, oil and cabin filters + general servicing at my trusted mechanic. Only OEM parts used.

Tyres: 4 Continental MC5’s at 28k
Battery: 5.5k with exchange

Both changed every 6 years.

2013 Amaze: 5k per year for exactly the same as above.

Tyres: 4 Continental CC5’s at 16k
Battery: 3.9k with exchange

Both changed every 6 years.

For both cars the 2 year service will include fresh brake fluid + spark plugs and every 5 years fresh trans fluid, fresh coolant every 10 years (as per manual) and then every 5 years.

Brake pads are 11k for the Accord and 5k for the Amaze (Honda oem) and last quite long as I don’t drive much, they’ll generally go for 12-14k kms, brake rotors are still original on both. Wheel alignment and balancing every 6-8k kms is 500 per car.

All in all, I’d say safely under 10k for Amaze and 15k for Accord over the last decade. Insurance is about 10k for each, as they’re old but it was more before. Minor bodywork I’ve not counted as it’s on a need basis and strictly optional.

I have put a ceramic coating on both for which I’d pay ~50k per car but since I’m a detailer it’s almost free to me.

Will note that I’ve not spent a single dollar on repairs of any kind on either car (except for a minor leak once in the Accord’s steering pump) in the last 13 years which I feel is a testament to Honda reliability.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

5Gen Honda City: 2 servicings per year as I clock 15-20k km per year, each service cost ~5k.
Not nitpicking here, but since this thread is about annual maintenance...

We pay minimum 50 paise per km on tires, assuming four tires' price minimum Rs. 20000/- and maximum kilometers as 40000 km.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

I did not vote as I cannot contribute a lot to those who are looking for operating costs in India. However here is a glimpse of what I spend on my car here in Netherlands.

I drive a 2015 year old VW Gold 1.6 TDI Blue motion which I bought in Nov 2019. Current odo is very close to 150000.

Typical annual maintenance costs of your car-screenshot_20220915085721_myfuellog2.jpg

So overall I spent on Average EUR 4748/Year [~RS 378145/Year which is about EUR 398 or Rs 31458 / month] which includes every single expense as seen in the screenshot.

A few points to keep in mind.
  • Diesel cars are taxed really heavily here in NL .
  • Though the trend is changing a lot, Diesels were generally preferred by those who drive a lot which would offset the cost of higher taxes by lower fuel bills. This is not the case anymore in current situation though.
  • Fuel+Tax+Insurance makes a big chunk.
  • I have a job that has high % of travel in it. When I bought the car, I was expecting to drive above 35k+ a year based on experience from previous years of driving an office lease car, but covid drastically changed the 'drive for work' situation. So if I had known that covid was coming , I would have gone for a petrol which would have been much more cheaper to tax and insure.
  • Though I service my car at my FNG [Bosch], only genuine parts are used.
  • Car goes through a full service every year.
  • Some costs are coming from preventive measures. I would like to keep my car always in top condition. It needs to be reliable. Its ready for even a 5k road-trip any time of the year [like last year we did a NL-Croatia-NL trip covering around 4500kms]. For example last service included a new battery though it was not really needed. However more importance is given to the reliability factor as car is needed for dropping kid to school, to travel to and from office, for all sorts of run about, visiting friends - list goes on.
  • Road tire category is nothing but purchase of a new full size spare tire/wheel as car did not come with one.
What next: Though a really like the elegance and sophistication of a Golf, I am looking forward to moving to a PHEV probably next year if the fuel price hike + lower travel for work trend continues. This is also because I have realized that my city runs have significantly increased after kid started going to school.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

Voted for 25k to 50k annual upkeep costs

I have above average usage.

My primary rides clock 30k - 36k km a year. Other three cars clock 10-15k km each per year.

From my Ciaz diesel ownership, I had spent 2,10,000 INR on routine maintenance, tyres, batteries and wheel alignments/balancing. This was in a period of 5.5 years after using the car for 1,35,000 km. It went through 2 sets of tyres, 2 batteries and about 20 services. Clutch, timing chain, water pump, and suspension struts were all replaced.

So annually it was about 36000 INR for the Ciaz.

I used Storme as my daily driver since I sold my ciaz last January. Clocked about 25,000 km in 10 months. I had spent 31375 INR in the period I used it as the primary ride. This year, I have used it sparingly, clocking about 800 km a month. So far I have spent 8600 INR for upkeep. Odo is at 56000 km, the 60000 km service will be an expensive one.

Typical annual maintenance costs of your car-screenshot_20220915125419_fuelio.jpg

Since November 2021, I have been using the Altroz diesel as daily driver. So far, my upkeep expenses on the Altroz for the last 10 months (odo at 28000 km) is INR 8000. It's pretty low because first 3 were free services.

My 2021 Celerio is brand new with just 1800 km on odo. So service costs have been negligible.

My 6 year old Kwid 1.0 has run 56000 km, averaging about 4000-6000 INR service cost annually.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

My sister and I bought balenos in jan 19 together while she went to outside workshops after free services ended i went The ASC route. Last service at 50000kms cost me Rs13000, a bit expensive for a MS Product I thought initially, but once i had a chance to drive my sister’s car my views changed in a jiffy! The suspension was more noisy, steering felt hard and overall it was feeling very coarse compared to mine which feels brand new. I don’t know about other brands but i suggest everyone to go ASC route with Maruti Cars.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

I voted for "<10k" since the annual cost of maintaining my 1st generation prefacelifted 1.6 petrol automatic Creta ranges from INR 1200 to INR 1900 averaging around INR 1550 and this includes lubrication (hinges, locks, door handles, power windows, suspension, etc), replacement (engine oil, engine oil filter, AC filter, engine air filter, etc), cleaning (car wash, spark plugs, throttle body, AC filter, engine air filter, etc) and wheel alignment/balancing. We maintain our car mostly by ourselves which explains the cheap costs despite completing almost 50k kilometres. Please note that these prices obviously do not include insurance and road tax. You can find the nitty-gritty in the following thread :-

Not true, in my case every time I took either of my cars to Honda authorised service centres, the experience ranged from poor to horrible, they overfilled my engine oil by 800ml twice, once billed for air filter without actually changing it, added nonsense jobs to pump up the service bill like silencer coating almost every single time, vehicles returned with dirty interior on many occasions, dented my rear door once, the list is endless.

At least Honda is consistent with the pathetic service quality across Gurgaon and Mumbai, so won’t complain there. Final nail in the coffin was a misdiagnosis of my leaking steering rack, which my mechanic fixed, saving me over a lakh in the process, this was 7 years ago, still works flawlessly. I have got much better service from my trusted mechanic than I ever did at Honda.

I will add that when dealing with any service centre, authorised or not you need to know your basics as a responsible owner in order to not get taken for a ride. Steering and suspension isn’t something that needs servicing in the first 3 years, so have someone else check your sisters car.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

3rd Gen Honda City
Car servicing interval - 5k kms
No. of servicing per year - around 2.5 to 3 times (mostly at Deccan-Honda, Pimpri)
Average spend per year on regular servicing - 15k
Apportioned spending per year on wear & tear parts - 8 to 10k
So, Total Average spending on servicing & maintenance : <=25k
(excluding spending on detailing which is around 8-10k per year)
