Everything sounds right. Check after re-fuelling. Can be a faulty fuel line, distributor, dirty fuel etc.

Check the Fuel pump fuse. You may require a screw driver to open it up and then check the continuity of the same.

There is nothing that beats the feel of the OHC steering while driving. I tried newer cars like the Duster and Dzire and the OHC beats them hands down on the feel of the road.Another reason to love the OHC.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

ok I had Honda come and have a look at the car and it seems fuel is not travelling from the rear to the main engine bay which could mean a faulty fuel pump in the petrol tank or I think in this one its situated somewhere under the gear leaver - will have to check that out. Anyways, according to Honda a new fuel pump costs 18000 + labor. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Guys,

My car has developed this low RPM issue since the last two days. The rpm is extremely low, around 100 and the car stops if not revved. It's kind of undrivable as the rpm drops in between gear shifts and the car halts. Any suggestion to resolve this issue?

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

I am planning to change the fuel pump on my own. Has anyone experienced doing this before. Do I need to remove my fuel tank for this job. In my opinion no but i could be wrong. a couple of mechanics seem to think otherwise but they too have never changed a fuel pump to a 1.5 Exi so my guess is as good as theirs. The company gave me some ridiculous estimate of 30k.

I had the same problem. First step would be to open and clean the IACV.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

I have recently bought a May 2001 VTEC, Heather Mist in colour with 129000 on the ODO.

Few things that are coming to light :

1.)Small leak near/behind the tappet on the left side if you stand facing the car. Please can anybody tell what needs to be done cause a garage guy near my house quoted 3k to change some 'O' ring that may have gone bad.

2.)Steering tilted to left. Car goes to left if steering is kept straight. (Think so need to get the alignment and balancing done)

3.) Small thud sound followed by vibrations in the back side after going over a speed bump or those white paint lines that are painted nowadays instead of speed bumps.

4.) As the tires need to be changed can anyone please tell me if 185/60 R14 is the right choice or 175/65 R14 is the right size. Currently running on 185/60 R14 . And does this affect FE.

5.) Need to get the car painted as the roof and some parts have lost the base coat due to oxidation or to much exposure to sun. Can any one suggest a good painter. And cost attached to getting a overcoat cause I have been quoted 35k for the whole body and another 8k for alloys.

Last thing please suggest a good garage somewhere in Kothrud or Deccan area to get my car serviced.

Please bear with me. This is my first car. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Tappet cover gasket might have gone bad. I had recently changed mine. O rings are on the piston, aren't they?

Alignment and balancing should resolve the issue.

3.) Small thud sound followed by vibrations in the back side after going over a speed bump or those white paint lines that are painted nowadays instead of speed bumps.

Can be minor like bushes or maybe the shocks have gone bust. If you are getting this even on the painted lines then might be serious as those lines are only slightly above the ground and should not have such an impact.

I think I am running 185 65 R 14. It's doing fine.

35k plus the 8k sounds steep. Overcoat should generally cost around 20 to 25k.

No idea since I am in Mumbai. And congrats on the Vtec. It will keep you happy.

Please bear with me. This is my first car. THANKS IN ADVANCE
My answers in between.

Cheers,
Raj

I think you have a power steering rack leak. If that's the case you should always keep an eye on the power steering oil resorvoir behind the right headlight. If this goes dry, a noise will develop and you will loose your power steering pump.
Replacing the o-rings in the steering rack MIGHT fix the leak, but does not guarantee it.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Which is the best synthetic/mineral engine oil which you have used in your OHC?

I usually let the garage or dealer decide based on there preference, but I think we should compile and decide.

So please list the engine oil and the OHC model.

In the picture you can see the part I am talking of where the leak is. The garage guy is quoting 2-3k for that work.

Bhpian's from PUNE who own an OHC please advice a good garage apart from the Authorised Service Station.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Guys I need your inputs here. The car throttle had become inconsistent so I got the throttle body cleaned from honda. I also decoded the ECL and it indicated that the Throttle Position Sensor(Error Code 7) is kaput.

Is the TPS available locally or can this be imported ? Do anyone of you have the exact part number /manufacturer for the TPS. Please advise.
