Team-BHP - 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

i got an autocop tech. give me a new remote and tune it earlier today and everything was good. in the evening i took the car out to go somewhere and when i parked the vehicle i noticed that the tail light (brake light) was always ON; i have parked the vehicle with negative terminals of battery disconnected so that the battery doesn't drain out. i'll check the brake switch (brake switch was changed 4-5 months ago, so it must not have gone kaput) in the morning if i could fit in that space to have a look, anything else that i should check?

also, before disconnecting the battery, i tried to disconnect the brake light by removing the sockets but could not locate the connection for spoiler, anybody knows where is it?

You will lose the drive pleasure, no matter how much tweaking and fine tuning you try.
I know the petrol prices are pinching everybody but if it's within manageable financial limits, then its simply avoidable.
And don't even ask any fitment guy, they will somehow get you in the trap! :D

I need to drive my OHC (1.5 Exi year 2000 model with more than 110k kms on the odo) from Delhi to Assam after a couple of weeks. My friend is driving the car since the last 3-4 months. Prior to he driving the car it was sitting idle for 6-7 months or more. Under these circumstances what maintenance and precautionary activities and checks I must get performed on the car in order for it to hold up well during the drive. Also, any recommendations and advices on what equipments, gears, oils and other important items I must stock up in the car prior to setting on for this drive will be highly appreciated. At the moment the Oxygen sensor is malfunctioning (since the past 3 years). I have bought Denso O2 sensor from US last year but hadn't had the opportunity to get it installed. I plan to get the replacement done before setting forth.

perform the following:

basic oil change with all other fluids top up
air filter chean/change
wheel alignment and balancing
check the condition of brakes/rotors; change brake pads/get the rotors skimmed if required; brake cleaning as well
check the condition of clutch

since your car has more than 110k KMs on ODO, perform the following services if not done so far (or recently, for some items):

transmission oil change
timing belt change
throttle body cleaning
injector cleaning
coolant flush and refill
spark plug change

very importantly, get your mechanic have a detailed look at the engine bay for any leaks (steering rack oil rings/seals, cam seals, etc.)

carry some fuses, head/tail light bulbs, basic tools, some engine oil, brake fluid, contact details of help contacts on your route, and first aid kit with you while traveling; if possible, a tyre pressure gauge and electronic/foot operated air pump.

Same thing happened on my OHC 1.5Exi in Nov 11, my brother took it to Peninsular Honda in Kollam and they replaced the switch near the brake lever (inside cabin). I dont remember the cost though.

@Honda Monk: I bought the O2 sensor from Amazon US for $36.53. I was in US during that time and had the part delivered to me. Fellow forum member johnda suggested the part no. Here is the link to the part in Amazon. The discussion on this is in this thread post no. 449 You can also source the part directly from Denso US but I preferred the Amazon route.

i also got the same O2 sensor few months ago from US; bought it off Denso website for $40. Check Engine Light was ON on my OHC and went away after i changed the O2 sensor with the one i had bought.

Hey infotech58 were you able to find the service manual? My OHC has done 67000 odd kilometers and I have no clue when I need to do the necessary changes as I service it at a private workshop.

It would be nice if there is someone is Bangalore who could lend me their owner’s manual to take a copy of it cause I don't have that either please:.

Amazon or Denso would not ship it to India (or outside US). your best bet would be to find it off ebay and check if the seller can ship to India. I have purchased a few items off ebay with shipping to India (from China, Japan, etc.).
Alternatively, same (or similar) sensor should be available in India for approx. 3500-4000 rupee. read through the forum and you'd see that few members have bought aftermarket sensor from India and they are working good without issues.
