Removal of Marks on glass

hi all (Mods, I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for posting this thread, if not, please move this to wherever you deem fit)
i tried washing my car with a synthetic chamois cloth today. dunno whether it was the heat(did it at 11 am here at chennai)or incorrect usage or the quality of the cloth (maximois- bought from SHELL pump for Rs. 285/- ), it has left millions of small particles(?) on my rear windscreen. these are too small so i cant even comment on whether these are fabric or rubber. looks as if my windscreen has been exposed to a shower of spray paint. tried taking them out by hand but did not succeed. please suggest a way of removal.
also noticed some brown stain on the roof(before washing) that i initially dismissed off as a dropping but wasn't to be. closer inspection revealed a splattering of very minute such spots near the area on the roof.was not able to remove it in the wash. how do i safely remove these without damaging the paint?
my car is due for its final free service in the first week of march. should i wait till then and hand it over to the service station? would be grateful for any advice from the specialists/experienced guys out there.

Re: Help With Water Marks on Windshield

Hi all!

The stains have struck again! With the on and odd rains this week, my one month old verna's windscreen is now covered with water spots. They're invisible during the day unless light falls at an angle. But at night, its a nightmare added to the fact that the car has haplessly dim headlamps. I tried to wash it off with car shampoo but was in wain. Tried the b/w newspaper with tobacco, still no go!

I'm kinda worried to go the abrasive route cause I dont want to aggravate the matter by adding swirls to the equation.

Has there been any real advances on this front? Is there something that'll work for sure?

Help

Thanks!

Tassem.

Re: Help With Water Marks on Windshield

I dont know how I missed this thread. A few years back, after a service at a MASS , my car's windshield was a mess with such water marks. It made driving in the night very dangerous. I took the car back to them and after complaining and threatening, they cleaned the windshield with cleaning clay. All watermarks disappeared and the windshield became as good as new!

Try to source 3M cleaning clay and use it on the windshield, just as you would on the paint and your windshield will be back to normal

I switched my wiper blades from the stock ones to Bosch and I have no more problems with rain water stains. It swipes clean spic and span. Make sure its not your wiper blade that's the issue. The rains you experience is the same rain I experience. And I don't think Bengaluru is experiencing acid rains as of yet.

Re: Help With Water Marks on Windshield

Thanks mtnrajdeep,

Let me give the clay a try. I think I know what you're talking about. I've seen the 3m guys use it to clean the car before applying their protective coat. I had this done on my lancer.. Fingers crossed..

Hey Ragul, I dont think I explained myself clearly.

The wipers work fine and clean up without leaving water trails. I'm referring to the dried up hard water marks on the windshield that just refuse to go with any amount of washing. You cant see them easily during the day, but at night it turns ugly!

Not sure how they got there in the first place. Could be water falling from the terrace or bouncing off walls during the night and then drying up in the morning.

Whatever the case, they're extremely annoying at night and aggravate glare..

Re: Help With Water Marks on Windshield

Cleaning the windscreen with diluted vinegar is a pretty easy way to remove the salt deposits that cause the spots in the first place.

Thanks VCheng,

I'll try the vinegar trick tonight once I get home. Do I just dip a cloth in vinegar and wipe or do I have to let the vinegar sit on the glass for a while before wiping it?

Anyways I'll try both if one doesn't work.

Thanks again,

tassem.

Use it as simple cleaner: dilute vinegar with water 50:50, spray on the glass and wipe clean with a clean lint-free soft cloth. Polish off with a newspaper and you should be all set.

If a 50:50 solution is too weak, you can try neat vinegar as a second step, but mostly it is not required. Please do report back. Thanks.

Re: Help With Water Marks on Windshield

I'll certainly do that. Will let you know how it goes. I'll click some before and after pics as well. I'm sure the stains will show up brilliantly if I use flash.

Hope it doesn't rain tonight though.

Same thing i did with my car some 3 years back to remove some hard water marks. Chevy guys did the cleaning with this 3M cleaning clay.

@Tassem
Do you have any idea from where we can source this cleaning clay for glass.
