Problem: Ford Ikon vibrating (almost shaking) when Idle.

Guys,

Faced this problem in my Ikon flair yesterday. The car is vibrating like crazy when idle. There is a hint of noise but I am unable to locate the source. The RPM is stable at around 800-900.

I did not drive it for long once the problem started but the vibrations continued when in motion. They are really scary when the car is stationary. What could be the problem guys ?

I really would not like to take the car to Ford so can anyone suggest a good mechanic outside for such kind of problems ?

Its done 48K in little less than 4 yrs.

Check plugs and wires first then blocked injector, fuel return cannister/pipes.

Hmm... are you implying that it could be due to bad fuel ?

Are the vibrations from the engine? Check the engine mounts for wear and have them replaced if worn out.

Engine mounts i will get checked.

@JK: I doubt if my brother would have filled her up from a new place but will have to confirm that.

How much does changing engine mounts cost ? <scared.... have started hallucinating about the credit card bill already>

Edit: RK: Know of a good mechanic who can replace the mounts if needed ?

Engine mounts are not very costly parts, should be under 1000 Rs. I suggest you get it done at Ford Service Center. In case they cry of parts not available then get it done from any local service center.

Need more information

Does the vibe seem to coincide with the firing of the cylinders/pistons or is it unrelated?

Here is some other possibilities besides engine mounts.

1. Alternator bearing going bad
2. Water pump going bad
3. Bad spark plug(s)
4. Bad ignition wire(s)
5. Bad coil (does this thing have them???)
6. Vacuum leak in a hose
7. Bad ECU or sensor
8. Blocked (dirty) air filter

Unfortunately engines vibrate for a great many reasons. It's hard to say what it might be from the little info you have given us. Are there other symptoms also? Suggest you check your belts, your cooling level, your charging system. A good mechanic will do all this.

Please give us a follow up post and let us arm chair twits know what it turns out to be, 'ay?

Thats a comprehensive list there Dan, though you have scared me
I am still contemplating whether to go to Ford or somewhere outside. Ford inevitably will charge thrice or four times compared to some decent mechanic outside.
Lets see.

Take it to the dealer and get it checked, i doubt its engine mounts for a 48k car, that part is one of the strong point in the iKON.

Remember fuel evaporator/cannister, this is something which everybody misses and i for one had a bad issue with dealer coz of this. If its blocked replace it, cost some 1500 bucks.

Read more about it here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ugh-cough.html

Could be misfiring on one of the cylinder or incomplete combustion, reasons could be anything
1) Coils
2) Plugs/wires
3)clogged injector

Now that I think about it, I dont think my frugal brother has been feeding her well. Most of the time, there in only enough fuel left in the tank to take her to the next petrol bunk; only to be filled with MAX 500 bucks worth of petrol.
Can this cause injector problems ? Will it be a sudden problem ?

I just want to know all possibilities before I take her to robbers called Harpreet Ford. :(
