re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

hi friends,
need some help. for the last six months there is some rattling noise coming from the backside of my safari. i feel it is coming from the back door. when i went to TASS they were doing some trial and error methods. now almost all the rubber bushings have been changed but sound still exists. (visited two TASS for this almost five times). it take some time to start the rattling, say some 4-5 kms drive then only the rattling starts. have anyone of you had this problem?

I might sound a little stupid, but if you can make some video, it might help.. Many a times the sound in my car have been because of badly placed jack, or some stuff in back door side pockets. Rattling noise can also be because of back exhaust pipe hitting against the rear bull bar assembly (incase you have one.)

My car clock has started missing time. I set it, and then again in few days the time goes haywire. Can anyone help as to what might be the problem?

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

HI Guys

My Dec 2010 Safari GX was behaving extremely well and I was pretty happy with it till today when it gave me the first shock. While retuning from the town, I revved the vehicle above 2000 rpm( running in is over). The max speed attained was 120 kmph and rpm 2400. I came home and switched it off. After some time, I started the vehicle again to take it inside the garage. Suddenly I felt change in engine noise and MIL coming on. I switched it off and started again after 30 seconds but light persisted. I switched it off and called TATA Helpline. After a couple of call, they informed me that mechanic is on the way and should reach my place by 30 min.
Waiting for him anxiously.
I will keep you guys posted for further story.

Cheers

What light came on?
Does it say "CHECK ENGINE"?
Or is it a yellow colored container type light which came on?

It is yellow colored light.

Ok the breakdown assistance guys just arrived and checked the vehicle. He tightened the big wire connector of ECU assembly ahead of battery and told me to start the vehicle again. Voila, the light has gone. Tried it no of times but it never came on.
He said that sometime the connection to the ECU become loose and hence the light.
I am relieved!!!!

One more small thing, after refueling the vehicle it takes about 15 min for the gauge to come to correct reading. The movement is very slow. Is that so or mine is faulty?

Are you sure? I guess the RPM should be around 2,700-2,800 at 120 kmph.

There are two yellow colored lights - one for 'check-engine' and the other for sedimenter. In your case, I believe it was the first one.

Good to know that the issue got resolved. That said, this should not happen. Did you recently get your Safari serviced? Someone might have messed up the connectors during engine wash. Good-to-know info in any case.

This is normal behavior.

Yes it was the MIL, the light on right topside.

I think I might be wrong in rpm. Thanks for correcting. I just glanced at rpm when it was winding down.

Pleae check the voltage across the battery terminals when cranking the starter for a cold start in the morning. If there is a substantial drop in voltage, the clock can reset. In that case you'll need a new battery (3 years is an acceptable time for a battery change).

Could be this too.

@Mods: Do you think this thread should be moved to the The Tata Safari 2.2L technical/Other problems/solutions Thread? A lot of people visit that thread and there is sure going to be more answers there?
+1.

Re: Tata Safari CLOCK keeps resetting itself!

@SS traveller - Thanks for reply. I will set the clock before starting the car, and will check once it gets started. Will try keeping an eye on this for next 3-4 days. if the clock resets after the starting, then i would know the cause. Presently i do not have the voltmeter so cannot check the voltage..However my workaround should work also.

Thanks again.

Yes it would. Note if the clock display dims when you crank. And resetting - does that happen everyday or occasionally?

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

I found the clock resetting at the time of my morning restart. Looks like time to change the battery. Would get it checked in 1-2 days and post update. Thanks SS

I guess most Safaris experience this problem, and some have rectified it by getting the dove tail joint fixed.. Newer safaris have this joint coming as default from factory I think.
Not sure if you have it or not, this is a joint on the body below the main latch of the back door, and has a corresponding thing on the door also.

Mine has this, but still it developed a squeak, so I've now placed a neatly folded cloth in the bottom where the door meets the body. Fold the cloth not too thick, or too thin, and bang shut the door and ensure it has latched on properly. Mostly this should solve it I would think.

Do try and report here.

Off topic, by the way, did anyone notice the 4-5 Safaris leading and trailing the Prime Minister's motorcadce in yesterday's republic day celebrations at Delhi? A sight to see. :-)
