Hello Guys,

I had given the Civic (2011, Manual, 78K run) to Arya Honda, Bhandup, today, the service advisor says Clutch Master Cylinder needs to be replaced, comes around 7.5K.
Question
a. Should i replace in ASC or FNG.
b. Should I tell slave cylinder to check also and change.

Also in recommendation he mentions below points
Clutch minor hard, RR brake pad, RR both tyre wear RR LHS wheel bearing noise linkage weak subframe mount minor cut.

Any thoughts on this guys, please let me know.

Dear Bhpian's,

I am looking for a good FNG in Hyderabad for my 2008 CIVIC AT. Can any Bhpian's from Hyderabad suggest. I have once checked out this FNG by the name "Man & Machine" at Jubilee Hills and felt he may do a quality work but his prices were super high. For example - For the rubber mount set for the exhaust pipe he quoted 900/- but i got the same in the market for 200/- and 1275/- for a liter of Engine oil which i felt is on a higher side. Other than this I am not aware of any good trustable FNG's and hence reaching out to you all.

Need to get the below sorted:

1. My car's AC is not cooling anymore. I suspect the condenser is gone.
2. There is leak in the power steering pump and I'm managing by topping up the power steering oil every now and then.
3. I would like to completely drain the transmission oil and replace with new. Is synthetic oil advisable or the one recommended by HASS.
4. I also suspect the secondary fan is not working as it should.
5. I also feel there is a need to change the Font tie rods & ball joints as i hear minor thuds on bad roads. This maybe due to tyre noise but i am not sure.

Any suggestions are most appreciated.

The price you mentioned for the engine oil seems to be of a Fully Synthetic 5W 30 variant, AMS oil which I think is the oil used by Man & Machine. If you choose to go for mineral oil a semi- synthetic oil, the rate would be around 400 a litre. Civic takes around 4 to 4.2 litres of oil. You could buy the oil from outside (Idemitsu 5w 30 fully synthetic costs around 2700 for 4 litres, Similar cost for Shell Helix HX8 5W30 fully synthetic oil, although Honda ASCs use an Idemitsu 0W 20 variant nowadays which is pricier to procure outside)

1)Have the Entire AC system tested using Nitrogen in order to determine the cause of the leak. A faulty condenser coil would warrant replacement and an OEM one would cost around 9k outside at a good FNG

2) For the Power steering leak, a good FNG would have to identify the root cause for the same. Its usually either the O Ring Seal on the low pressure pipe (Rs 500 fix including labour). In more severe cases the rack, High pressure pipe or the pump itself could be leaking. My FNG charges 5000 for the rack repair, Rs. 3000 for a pipe replacement and around 4000 for a pump overhaul ( all including labour). Of course the leaking component needs to be identified first.

3) Please go only with Honda Genuine Automatic Transmission Fluid (Honda Genuine ATF DW1 as sold in the US also the same as the erstwhile Honda ATF Z1 as per the owners manual) if you want your Honda to drive like a Honda. Honda Automatics are very sensitive to the oil used and its best to avoid unwanted issues by using any other grade of oil. A simple drain and fill usually costs around 2500 bucks and drains out around 3 litres of oil at one time.

4) By secondary fan do you mean the condenser fan? I would recommend having the relay for the same checked in the fuse box first (very cheap fix). If the relay is fine , do check the Fan motor and the fan itself before replacing anything. This could trigger your AC cooling issue as well with the condenser above.

5) Again better have the suspension issues diagnosed before throwing new parts in. Faulty strut mounts can also cause thuds.

Hope this helps.

Regards..

Usually the symptoms of a failing clutch Master cylinder would be low clutch fluid or a spongy/soft clutch feeling. A failing slave cylinder would make your clutch hard every time the car warms up after driving in traffic for a few Kilometres. If you know a good FNG and have faced any of the above issues, job can be done there as required.
For the wheel bearings, if you hear a constant humming noise while driving, usually that's an indication. I have replaced my wheel bearings in my Civic for 3k per wheel with OEM grade ones at my FNG. Would be costlier at Honda ASC I reckon. By Sub frame mount, are you referring to the Engine mount? Most Civics of the 8th Gen are plagued by this issue. Check the Hydraulic mount on the drivers side. There should be a gap enough to insert a five rupee coin between the lower end and the metal part. If there is no gap, it means the mount has collapsed and needs replacement. Also have the upper Torque Strut dog bone mount checked for cuts or cracks. Bad Motor mounts cause noticeable vibrations during cold starts or when the AC compressor kicks in at idle as well as while driving at High rpms. Honda ASC usually charges around 12 to 13 k for the same. You can get the same sourced at an FNG for around 8 to 9 k. Would strongly recommend going for the Original OEM Honda Mount if required instead of cheaper alternatives.

You can replace same at Honda, you are guaranteed for a genuine part unless you are selling off the car soon. In case the cylinder goes bad (there is a slave one as well) the pedal goes limp and you will have difficulty engaging the clutch. Read brake pads can be done at a good garage and will be cheaper. Unless the bearing noise is coming do not bother same and these should be done at a FNG. Sub frame mount if not very expensive at Honda can be done there else FNG is the way to go.

The odo today is at 1,74,319 and the car completes 14 years this May-2021.

I don't have much running these days. Apart from Corona and WFH, I don't have much usage of a car nowadays, but in the first six years I completed 1,23,000 kms (NO driver, self-driven).

83 times Coonoor Ooty hill roads, 415 kms from my home.
9 times Chennai, 600 kms from my home.
2 times Bangalore, 600 kms from my home.
1 time to Goa, 1200 kms from my home!

Car is still in perfect shape, except for a few minor niggles like RHS-ORVM motor dead, center-arm-rest broke, glove-box partly broke, etc.

The engine, suspension, etc are still impeccable. Only the routine services done so far. I do oil-changes once a year now instead of every 6 months earlier.

I am eyeing the 5th Gen-Honda-City or the Amaze as a replacement if the car starts giving me major problems (only a Honda!).

170k is just half the engine life done. I am sure the car can do more. Both the cars are downgrade to the Civic, the Amaze especially. I am curious you are not inclined to go the current SUV trend. Sedan lover myself but I find mysel drifting towards the suv styled cars. I hope you retain your Civic for long.

Wow Manim 1.74 lac kms 👍

Buying the Amaze will be a disaster, you will hate it in no time after using a Civic for so long. If a change is what you are looking for the latest City looks really, really good in the flesh. It looks grown up in every way and our pain of scraping speed breakers from time to time doesn’t look likely.

I have a 2010 Civic AT done only 45k kms as driving was shared with a 2004 City for a long time. Can’t think about letting go of my baby though :)

Sumeet, your posts really show your love for the Civic every time. You really miss your Civic, please get one again somehow.

Cheers

Hi,

Need some guidance on my Honda Civic Petrol CVT repair.
It is 2019 petrol model and under warranty.
Yesterday the vehicle wouldn't start and the local service advisor at Pride Honda Madhapur, Hyderabad, is confident that this is due to the low pressure fuel pump in the gas tank going kaput. There have been another car with similar issue.

This part going bad so early is very rare, although recently Honda did officially recall around 1.4 million cars globally because of faulty fuel pump.

https://auto.economictimes.indiatime...pumps/76181930

Unfortunately the fuel pump is not available with any local dealer nor with Honda Noida and is on back order.
It can take at least 15 days or more for the part to arrive. Basically the local service station has no idea how long the part will take to be sourced.

Any of Team BHPians have any idea where I can source the OEM fuel pump faster?

Is there any contact details with Honda India that I can inquire with?

Please help!

Thanks!

Got a response from Honda customer care stating that my specific car is not affected by the global Fuel pump recall

here is the exact quote from the email response:
"Further, we would like to mention that vehicle with vin no. MAKFCXXXXXXXXX is not a affected vehicle in which fuel pump update has to be done"
Now waiting on the authorized service station to let me know how long it would take for the replacement fuel pump to be sourced.

Finally got a response from my service provider that the replacement spare fuel pump should be available by next week.

Hi, hopefully they have diagnoseed it correctly? Usually when the fuel pump goes out , the car should crank but not start due to the presence of spark and no fuel in the combustion chamber. Hopefully the battery and ignition coils and spark plugs have been checked to ensure there is spark. However it does seem mighty premature even for a fuel pump to go out within 2 years. Hoping the new fuel pump arrives soon and your rides back on the road in no time.

Miracle! Got a call from the service station that they have received the part and my car is ready to be picked up! Which I already have done:)

The car was cranking when the start button was being pushed

When I had bought the Civic in 2019, I had bought a 3 years Honda Road Side Assistance along with it.
I used the RSA on 3 occasions in the last month because of my faulty fuel pump issue (described in posts above)

On the first 2 occasions, the RSA person arrived at my car within the hour and was successful in jump starting it. I think somehow the fuel pump started working by itself and jump starting did not have anything to do with it. I was plain lucky the first two times!

On the third occasion, the first individual arrived within an hour, could not start the car, as the fuel pump had gone completely inoperative and was refusing to show any signs of life . HONDA RSA then proceeded to get a flatbed tow truck for me which again arrived within the hour.
The TOW truck dropped my car at my service station.

On all the 3 occasions I had to pay zero for the RSA and I am damn happy that I took the RSA. It has paid for itself!

Hi,

Small update
Changed the master and slave clutch cylinder from Arya Honda, Bhandup.

Need 1 help, Honda Civic (2011), there's a water leakage at the rear side right door, near the mats, as per the SA, he says DOOR BODY BEADING (right side rear) needs to be replaced.

Any place where can i get beading right side, not able to find one.

I got below link, will it work
https://www.shopee365.com/door-body-...ic-set-of-4pcs

Thanks,
