Hi,
...I went ahead with Castrol GTX Diesel (15w40 CH4), 7.5 Ltr can @ Rs.2400 (MRP was 2640 IIRC).

I drove for ~150 KM till now, and while its too early to comment, I can say didnt get the 'new oil feeling' (i.e. smoothness).
...
In my case this time, apart from the brand change, I did go lower from CI4+ to CH4. (For Xylo, MM did recommend CH4). Lets see for few days and later revert with my observations.

Though I have never used fully synthetic all these 1.7 Lac KMs, next I would like to try Mobil Delvac 1 (5w40).
Query:
- any negative impact you can think, in my case ?
- can anyone help, where can I get Mobil Delvac 1, preferably around Borivali / Thane / Vashi.

regards,
Pranav

I have driven 600+ KM with GTX, and engine doesnt feel very smooth, and could feel a bit of hesitation when pulling the vehicle on slightly higher RPM. No doubt, Rimula R4 was better than this.

Also, my order for Mobil Delvac 1 (5w40 CI4+ FS) from 99rpm.com has arrived. Actually I had ordered 2 x 5 Ltr packs, instead they have send 10 x 1 Ltr packs, its ok for me. As also mentioned by another user, the stuff is manufactured in Dec'15 and imported in Feb'16. For my upcoming long trip, I plan to replace oil with this one.

I know, from both personal and professional experience, that the 2 things that practically matter the most are:

1. Using the oil grade recommended by the car/engine maker

2. Changing the oil at or lesser than intervals recommended by the car/engine maker.

Other thing that should be done is using oils from standard brands like Exxon Mobil (best), Shell, etc.

All other debates about mineral, synthetic, higher grades, etc is basically for theoretical purposes, with very less practical impact.
These discussions should be read with a pinch of salt.

I am looking at options for engine oil for my upcoming sx4 purchase happening in a few days.
I would be using the vehicle mainly in city and occasionally for highway trips ranging about 600 kilometres in a day.i intend to buy the oil myself and replaced in front of me.

I am thinking of Mobil Delvac 1, is this a good optin? Any other recommendations guys?

If you want to maintain a drain interval of 15,000 kms then Delvac 1 is a very good option

I assume you are referring to an SX4 Diesel. In that case, please use Mobil 1 0w/40. The DDiS 200 is too light an engine to warrant the use of Mobil Delvac 1, which is basically for heavy duty engines.

I am just sharing my experience over 5 years and 90,000 km. And yes, please change the oil every 10,000 km, not 15,000 km.

I had even gone upto 20,000 km on a petrol Swift; however the same is not recommended for a diesel engine!

No sir. The 1.3L MJD loves Mobil Delvac 1.

Many of my friends use it too and I'm getting one for my Swift ZDi too.

IMHO it is one of the best engine oils for the 1.3L MJD.

I use Mobil Delvac 1 in my 2.5 liter NEF CRDe Mahindra Thar!

Regarding your choice to use the same in the 1.3 liter DDiS 200(/190), may I just say 'to each his own'? :)

Absolutely echo your thoughts. Its the best the 1.3 MJD can get. Been using it in both our MJDs for many thousands of kms. Great NVH and life.

what is the drain interval you prefer, under which driving conditions ?
as posted earlier, I have got the Delvac-1 and today going to replace it.

I generally stick to 10,000 km or 1 year, whichever comes earlier.

Keeps the engine sounding like new!

Where does one source 'Mobil Delvac 1' in B'lore? I require around 3.1 liters for my swift VDi.

I have a n Elantra .I switched over to the synthetic oil about 3 months back.
Since then am finding smoke from my exhaust in the morning when the engine is idling.
It usually stops after about 15 seconds of idling
Is it something to do about synthetic oil.
Company provided oil during the servicing

Buy 3 litres from 99rpm.

If you want to buy from brick and mortar shops then JK automobiles on JC road or RSS and Co. on Rajkumar road are two places that i have purchased from .

I checked out '99rpm', and it is NOT available there. So, had to go to 'JK Auto' on JC Road. Bought 3 cans of one liter each. Having filled that in my swift VDi, they checked the oil level and the service guys thought it to be less and topped it off with 10W40 of SHU. :Frustrati

Now, I have this uneasy feeling of what might be happening to the engine with this mix. Next time for sure, have to buy a liter more or go for synthetic oils which come in 3.5L/4L cans.

It's available for sure. You need to check under TATA.
