Hi All,
I own a 2019 make i20 diesel car. Current ODO reading is 33k kms and the car is due for next service within a month.
I have used only mineral oil from Hyundai A.S.S. till now and want to use fully synthetic engine oil going forward as ODO reading crossed 30k kms.
I have been searching for Mobil Delvac 1 from more than a month in Bengaluru and I couldn’t find any stock as Mobil is not supplying this in India as mentioned by the dealers.
I couldn’t find API CH-4 fully synthetic engine oil in any brand. All I can find is API CF or CG maximum.
Hyundai recommends anything above API CH-4 for this engine. I don’t want to go for mineral oils like Delvac MX plus or Rimula R4 if there is API CH-4 fully synthetic oil available.
Please suggest me.

Amsoil 5w40 turbo truck. They also have a 5w30 diesel oil, both rated ck4.

I totally forgot AMSOIL and have been searching in Mobil and Shell. Thank you.
Any experience with AMSOIL? How does it compare to Delvac 1 or other available fully synthetic oils from Shell and other brands?
I am aware of this brand but no idea on how the oils from this brand perform

Very good quality, but expensive. Should not be an issue buying for a smaller car, but these days with a Ford Endeavour with a 9.5 litre sump I stopped buying it :)

I have one small doubt.
Hyundai recommends ACEA B4 for diesel engines without DPF. Mine is a 2019 diesel i20, hence it is a BS4 engine without DPF. And, the manual says if recommended grade is not available then use engine oil above API CH4.
Now, there is Shell helix ultra 5W-40 which is ACEA B4 but API CF and not API CH4+.
I am confused by the recommendation in the manual. Please find the attached images for reference.
Can I go with Shell helix ultra because it is ACEA B4 and the manual says this is the recommended grade?

You can definitely go with shell helix ultra a3b4 5w40 or shell hx8 a3b4 5w30 (both synthetic) or shell helix taxi a3b4 5w30 semi synthetic. Despite the taxi name that’s a very capable oil.
Hi Respected members,
How good is synthetic engine oil such as Castrol Magnatec 5W40 for the Mahindra DI engines ?
Regards,
MB4DI

That would be easier to answer with yes if your engine was a newer crdi.
Stick to a high grade mineral like Mobil delvac MX or Shell Rimula.
Update on this query -

Getting 15w40 oil 3 litre for my petrol car is becoming a hassle. Either the correct grade for a petrol car is not available, or it is available in 3.5 / 4 litre packs (getting three 1 litre packs was the final option). Had posted pictures of VALVOLINE & ENI oils - both rated 15w40 but the latter being rated only C* |
To the above, reply that I found most logical -

If an oil is 100% diesel rated (only API C[something]) then don't use it in a petrol car. Many of the diesel oils also have an additional petrol certification (API S*) and therefore can be used in older cars. |
And, the conclusion -

If the same oil is ALSO rated API S*, then it can be used BOTH in diesel as well as petrol. |
Resulted, in being able to get this oil -
This one is rated for usage in petrol, diesel as well as LPG engines. As against the requirement of SG it is higher rated as SL.
Got the engine oil changed a week ago, and have driven 500+ kms so far.
Don't remember to have used Mobil till date - or may be once? Seems to be better in comparison of earlier 15w40 as far gear shifts are concerned, only the first gear is slightly hard, others shift better. Engine is comparatively silent (could be because I got the timing belt and the tensioner bearing changed).
Oil was close to year old and cost me Rs. 1,600/- (almost double of the 3 litre 15w40 of ENI that I posted earlier).
Guess the diesel cars requiring 10w40 oil can opt for this....
One observation - the cap of the can seems to be 100% tamper proof, and has a nozzle provided to enable easy filling.

This is my usual mechanic's oil of choice for older petrol as well as small diesel cars.

API CF was introduced in 1994 for
Off-road, indirect -injected diesel engines (aka
Pre-combustion Chamber diesel engines).
This CF was
NOT intended for then prevailing Off-road (or on-road) direct-injection diesel engines where CF-4 spec was recommended.
Imho, the above CF Mobil oil is surely
not intended for modern 2019 Hyundai diesels like i20, which is a direct-injection diesel engine, albeit for on-road use.

Hence a 1994-intro CF oil surely does not comply with CH4 introduced in 1998.
Not suggesting this Mobil CF would destroy a 2019 Hyundai diesel engine in immediate term though.

Apology for confusing @vrprabhu with @ prabhu.reddy92 who actually owns a 2019 i20 diesel engine.

Different gentleman :) For a 2019 i20, a 5w30 A3/B4 should do very well indeed, if its a BS4 Hyundai engine. Such as Shell HX8 5w30.

What is the alternative in ACEA standard for API CH4 and above ?
My i20 diesel needs a API CH4 as mentioned in the user manual. Currently, I use Rimula R4 15W40 which is a API CI oil. Was wondering if there is an equivalent in ACEA for this. This is purely for my curiosity sake :)

For that you can happily use a 5w40 or 5w30 A3B4 like Shell Helix Ultra or Shell HX8 or (semi synthetic) Shell Helix Taxi.
And this advice applies to just about every BS4 diesel sedan / SUV sold in the Indian market here in India.

Hi sagarpadaki, how has been your experience with Shell Rimula R4 15W40? I am taking my Scorpio for an oil change this weekend, and just for the heck of it thought of trying something different from the usual M&M Maximile FEO 15W40 oil that my FNG fills.
