ESP stands for "Emission System Protection" and these oils are CJ-4 compliant which mandates Sulphated Ash (ASTM D874) <= 1.0%.These oils are meant for Vehicles fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters(DPFs),EGRs & Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOCs).

All the API specs are backward compatible meaning you can safely use API CI-4 oil in an engine that needs API CG-4 and above.

@Greenie, why should a commercial vehicle oil not work well in a passenger vehicle ? An oil meant for commercial vehicles should logically be able to take more 'abuse'.

But then, such oils are priced lower, and may not be that refined.

I think the same was mentioned in the Service receipt as well..though I do not have a copy of it now :Frustrati

@ Peter - Good to hear that Maruti provides a choice to their customers clap:

Talk about setting trends..

This is indeed the best brew you can get for your MJD.

Cheers

They say competition improves the breed, may be one can add service as well. I hope all dealerships start offering you a choice of the fluids to be used.

Also read through few info that states that CI and CJ spec oils are better for modern diesel engines with EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation). EGR puts the oil to more strain and CI and CJ spec oils does better than CG or CH spec oil on diesel engine with EGR (Engines meeting BS4). So here is the question. If the manufacturer's required engine oil spec is CG-4 (taking swift D as eg. as I have this car), can we use oil meeting CH and more like CI and CJ ? Will there be good effects or bad effects in using an engine oil which is higher in spec than the manufacturer's req?

The API website will usually mention if a specific service category is also compatible with the preceding ones. Here is what we have for API CJ-4:
Quote:

API CJ-4 oils exceed the performance criteria of API CI-4 with CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, CH-4, CG-4 and CF-4 and can effectively lubricate engines calling for those API Service Categories. When using
CJ-4 oil with higher than 15 ppm sulfur fuel, consult the engine manufacturer for service interval.
Btw, where did you see the ESP version of Delvac 1? I would like to grab one if it is out here!

Hi all, I came across 'Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w40' that meets or exceeds the specifications: API CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS/CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/ SM/SL/SJ.

Do we have this in India? Is this only for trucks or can we use this on our diesel cars?

How is this oil when compared with Mobil Delvac 1 ?

Here's the link. But I don't think it is available in India. Here we get only after it is outdated in developed countries.

Mobil Delvac 1 is the best brew that is available for diesel motors in India.

Getting others may not be easy. Mobil folks still think the market in India isn't that big for premium oils :Shockked:

Hi,
My 10L Delo 400 helped me thru last two services. Any idea about Delo 400 avaialble in market? what rate/price?
I may go back to Delvec Mx if I cant finde Delo 400 in market. If I get Delo 400, its surely going to be 2008/2009 mfg. Is it a good idea to use Delo 400 that was sealed for 3+ years?

Hi,

Though I'd update this thread since it helped me choose my next oil change - Mobil Delvac 1.

After tramping around JC road and Kalasipalayam road I located what should the "official" Mobil distributor - Speed-A-Way, just off JC road near the BBMP parking lot; Branch Manager - M. Anand; Address - No 1, Susheela Road, 1st Cross; Tel- 41496502. Approx Location as per Google maps (sorry, couldn't get a GPS fix in the rain) - J C Road, bangalore - Google Maps

It should be on the "3rd cross road" behind the HP petrol pump - don't try taking your car down this road! There are 2 Speed-a-way offices on this road, the actual outlet is bang on the road with the Mobil + speed-a-way sign.

Price - Rs. 4270/- for a 5L can, actual MRP sign says 4400. Availability - there were 5 new boxes of 5x5L, mine was the first to be opened. Date of import was listed as Oct 2010. This was my only point of concern but after speaking to many shops on my walk and getting fobbed off with various prices and complaints of unavailability I think these people were solidly reliable.

Cheers,
Goincrazy

Just changed from Mobil1 supersyn to Castrol maganatec 10w-40 today for my Fiesta diesel. It costs Rs.1100 for 3l can. As only 3ltr can is available. I bought 2 cans(6ltr) and have the rest in reserve.

Before that i have checked with Ford SA, he told me that they usually fill normal castrol engine oils and they don't go for any semi or super synthetic oils as per manual. And used to fill synthetic only on ford mondeo. I just wondered that they don't even follow any spec as per manual.

Kindly let me know if "Castrol magnatec 10w-40 not a bad choice for Fiesta diesel which completed 58K odo.

I am having a hard time sourcing Mobil Delvac 1 5w40, the dealer has Mobil 1 5w50 fully synthetic which he claims can be used for both petrol and diesel engines.

For a DDIS engine, would Mobil 1 0w50 be ok? I checked with Maruti and they fill Shell oil if you ask for synthetic, I think those oils are similar, i.e not a special Diesel oil but basically synthetic oil mainly designed for petrol but meeting the specs for diesel.

Hi chncar,

Me too had a hard time to find Mobil Delvac 1. Only R13 is available it seems. Hence, I gotta go for Castrol magnatec.

Shifted to Delvac1 last saturday. Immediate effect is that the engine noise has gone down a bit. other than that i couldnt feel any difference. Will drive for some more and will update.

Does anyone have contacts of Mobil retailers/distributors in Chennai who stock Delvac 1? Any help would be appreciated.
