PM Pho3nix or nitrous - they may be able to help.
My Fiesta TDCI SXI is closing in on 8k kms and is due for the second service this month end (6 months from purchase). I have not changed the engine oil in the first service. I am definitely changing the oil this time. Changing to fully synthetic Mobil Delvac 1.
I will be taking the car to the Ford Service center in Cochin. Any one experienced any issue with changing to fully synthetic oil in the Service Center. Would they create trouble if I brought my own engine oil (Mobile Delvac 1, hoping I can procure it this weekend). Any other info in this regard will be helpful.

Hi Basil,
It would be best if you met/called your service advisor and checked, as different manufacturers and different service stations have different policies.

Thanks chncar.
Kairali Ford Cochin had called me in the mean time reminding me about the upcoming service. I booked for this Saturday (18th June). I have a confirmed appointment time and also the name and number of my Service Advisor. Called him, to my disappointment, he told me that they will only fill the OE semi synthetic oil. I can however bring my own oil and change it there, but my engine warranty would go for a toss. I am not really ready for this. So hard luck, I have to wait for another 3.5 years to get the warraties expired before I can choose the Mobil Delvac 1.
PS: Kairali Ford Trivandrum also called me reminding me for the service. My car was booked at Trivandrum and delivered at Cochin. Kudos to Ford for making their owenership experience a treat, eventhough, I am disappointed with the engine oil change. Sorry to go terribly off topic.
:OTI also enquired about an after market light upgrade, I was plainly denied this being done in the service center. I was also warned that the light upgrade elsewhere would tamper the warranty. I hope they are not too serious about this one atleast.
It is good you checked before purchasing the expensive synthetic oil that you would not have been able to use. You might want to check with some other service center if they have different policies, or even shoot an e-mail to Ford, if you are very keen to have synthetic. If mineral is all you are allowed, you can also consider increasing the frequency of oil changes, this will work out cheaper than synthetic anyway.
OT, but:
I think most dealer's official line is that the light upgrades void the warranty, however most dont have a problem with it in practice. Just make sure that you use a reliable guy to do the fittings, use good components and a relay. There is an entire thread on lighting on TBHP and you can find valuable info there.

@basil - As long as the oil meets the specifications I guess it should be good. This was my arrangement with Hyundai A.S.S. I guess Ford A.S.S wouldn't be too different..

Does Mobil Delvac 1 would meet the specifications put forth by Ford?
I just had a small conversation with the Service Advisor over phone. I am hoping it would be a different ball game when I meet him/other Service advisors in person. I will argue about the specifications being same, there should not be a problem. Lets see how it works out. I will only purchase the Delvac 1 only after some confirmation from the Ford Service.
@chncar
Unfortunately there are no other service centers for Ford in Cochin. Its the same guys all the way South of Cochin, they would have the same policy.

I think Ford uses 10W30 grade oil in their cars. I also think they do not specify API ratings for their OE recommended oil.
Delvac 1 being 5W40 should be better that 10W30 but there is usually more to it than just the grade. Delvac 1 API is CI4+ which should be equal to or better than Ford oil.
Considering the difference in grade, I think it's unlikely they will let you use Delvac 1. Moreover it's a loss to their revenue as well. Please let us know how it goes.
What's the oil change interval for Ford fiesta diesel? I know for Figo diesel (same engine) it's 10k km's so if it is the same, you can choose to live with Ford oil but change every 5k km's or 7.5k km's. That will provide better engine protection and keep the warranty intact. Will require more A.S.S visits though.

Thanks for the idea to check out with Ford directly. Any email Ids that I can use for this? Thanks in advance.
Any one here in tbhp has done this, or did all the oil changers stand to loose warranty?
Not necessarily. I have changed from Servo to Shell within warranty period. The only thing is that we should convince the Service guy since not many people do this.
Managed to get Mobil Delvac 1 5W40 fully synthetic in Chennai. Comes in 5 liter cans and MRP is Rs 4400.
For those who need it, contact Mr. Sudhakar of Bharath Oil Company (Ph: 2861 1722). He offered to deliver if you let him know in advance. The shop is in Royapettah, its hard to find parking there and there are a bunch of really filthy bylanes you have to take to reach there, so I suggest getting it delivered.
I have a question, hope someone can clarify. The can is 5L, the manual says that the engine needs 3.1L so assuming some wastage etc there should still be some oil left over after use. So long as I keep the can properly closed and dont allow much dust in to the can, can I keep it and use it for my next refill? Or will it get spoilt if kept for a long time?

You will have 1.9 liter you will be left with, which you can keep in the same can and safely store in a cool place for at least 6 months.

Hi,
My 10L Delo 400 helped me thru last two services. Any idea about Delo 400 avaialble in market? what rate/price?
I may go back to Delvec Mx if I cant finde Delo 400 in market. If I get Delo 400, its surely going to be 2008/2009 mfg. Is it a good idea to use Delo 400 that was sealed for 3+ years? |
Just checking if anyone has got opinion about oil with 2-3 years old mfg date!
Brought a 5L can of Delvac 1 today.Vehicle has gone for service. Will post the initial impressions soon.
Good news for those who stay around Rajajinagar,Malleshwaram,Vijayanagar area. You can get delvac1 from " RSS Co".This shop is on Rajkumar road next to the signal. It is diagonally opposite the main VRL office..Nice chap.Very reasonable rates.Infact i got this oil for Rs3500 which is cheaper than JC road.Has stock of variety of synthetic oil from castrol edge, magnatec professional, mobil complete range and shell complete range. Can get you the required oil real quick if he does not have stock of them.
Hi all. My friend gave his figo D zxi for service @ 10k km. He requested the ford S.A to fill synthetic oil and they filled in with mobile 1 5w50. Its grade is CF and i am sure figo D has a requirement higher than that. The S.A said that is a a good oil for figo and convinced my friend to fill that oil. I understand that mobile 1 5w50 (meeting CF) is not the correct one. What do you all think..
