I see your location as Bhuvneswar and it's a pretty big place. As with any other Indian city there should be some market for auto spares where trucks / earthmover buy spares and oil.

You can easily get Castrol GTX Diesel or Shell Rimula R4 ( CI+). Heavy Diesel engines such as JCB / Earthmovers need CI grade oil.

Thank You, Friends I will surely locate the nearest Castrol Distributor. Bhubaneswar is a big place but basically there is no Castrol car care. At a local garage near my home some mechanic guys wear Castrol car care uniforms and many people take their cars there.:Shockked:Do not know what oil they use there.
Authorized service centres drill a big hole in our pocket whenever we go there. So this time basically I will buy the oil from outside and put it at a small standalone maruti authorized service center.

I will be going to Kolkata next month to attend a marriage. So Friends Can you tell me which shop would be best (trusted) to buy Engine oil for diesel swift?? Please if possible can you provide the number of the Mobil Distributor/Dealer in Kolkata??? Thanks in advance:)

The Mobil distributor in Kolkata is Hindustan Oil Traders. Their retail outlet is located next to Khanna Cinema. Contact number is 033 25556117. I used to source Mobil Delvac MX for my Verna CRDI from this place.

Thanks friend, I am wary of buying engine oil from local shops. But the Distributor can always be trusted. Delvac MX is one great oil. It is not available anywhere in Odisha.

has anybody tried Mobil Delvac MX ESP 15W-40 (CJ/CI4+) : http://www.mobil.com/India-English/L...SP_15W-40.aspx

any details about it ?

I don't want to sound like a Jerk but your posts suggests it is some sort of social experiment you are doing.

A search on Exxon Mobil website for distributors give following address

PALIT EQUIPMENT SALES PVT. LTD.
Plot No. 6, Arya Bhoomi, Nandankanan Road, patia
Bhubaneshwar
Orissa 751031

Phone: 9437579954/9437020710

BTW : I was just looking for a nearby distributor for myself as it's oil change time and got curious.

Dear gurus , an engine oil related question here :
My Tata Safari 2.2 dicor (2008 model) has been serviced at TASS regularly and has clocked 39k KM till today. At previous service the SA at concorde charged 7k+ for oil change - stated its a synthetic oil. someone at the service center reception stated its a CASTROL EDGE synthetic they use. Now this is only CF specification wheres as manual says CH4 or above is required. (i travel out of country for work very frequently hence physical presence at TASS isnt very easy for me).
1) Does any tbhpian know what oil is used at concorde - kudlu gate service center, Bangalore ?
2) assuming its a CH4 synthetic used previously, can i start using Mobil Delvac MX 15w40 - this is a mineral oil ? --> reason is i have very low usage so would prefer to have frequent oil changes at a lower cost.

your response and opinions solicited.
Thanks,

For CRDi engines the Delvac series work quite well. Since your usage is less you can use Delvac MX without any fuss.
PS-I am using Delvac 1 in my swift Diesel. Previously I used Delvac MX .

Talk to Service Manager of Concord and also file compliant they should not have filled Castrol EDGE synthetic it is not meant for Diesel where you need CH4 . I think service advisor just upsold you for inflating the bill.

Normally T.A.S.S fills Castrol GTX Diesel which is CH4 and costs around 2100Rs for 7.5 liters.

You can fill any of the three Castrol GTX, Shell Rimula R4 or Delvac MX outside if you need they all are in same price range and performs similar on Safari.

Hi all, in my absence my friend took my Manza QJD to a near by garage for 50 K oil change. For some reason the guys over there poured Valvoline 15w40 engine oil insisting that it is suitable for all TATA diesel engines. But I knew that as per manual the oil has to be 5W40. One day after the oil change when I took the car for a drive, the engine sounded differently and in a 50 km drive I could see that the temperature gauge was going past the first bar (second line in the gauge). So far in my drives, the temperature gauge goes past the first bar only when going uphill. I don't see any issues with the pick up or with mileage.

Now the question is - What are the chances that this oil already messed up my car's engine? Or the garage guys are correct that this oil can be used in Fiat engines?

Anyway I bought a 5 Ltr Delvac 1, which I need to pour in the engine tomorrow. Attaching a pic below just to ensure that I bought the right one. Can anyone confirm if this indeed is the Delvac 1 that we all are talking about in this thread?

Thanks

Just replace the oil and put the correct grade, the difference would not mess the engine atleast in the hotter part of our country. Ensure you wait for all oil to drain off and replace the filter also.

Valvoline is a very good brand and i would suggest you not waste the new oil by draining it. Used oil is harmful to environment. So lets do our bit to use the oil to its potential before draining. 15W40 or 5W40 will not make any difference unless you are living in Alaska or Siberia!

You can keep the Delvac 1 for the next oil change.

PS - How much did you pay for the 5 ltr can?

Thanks sagarpadaki. From google I understand that the 5W or 15W makes difference in viscosity only in low temperatures, which we don't see in southern part of India. But where I am confused is, there are lot of guys who also say that these two will behave differently as the temperature raises (when engine heats up) and hence will provide different lubrication at higher temperature with 5W full synthetic providing better lubrication. You know googling even for something minor as a headache can cause one end up in ICU :) Hence the confusion.

Regarding the price for Delvac 1 - I paid 4500/- for 5 Ltr. It is bit on the higher side and I believe if I searched more, I could have saved some 500/-.

Do not get confused. The lower grade is applicable only to cold weather conditions.

The price you paid for delvac 1 is good. Even I paid same in Bangalore

@sreerknair

It doesn't matter what grade of oil the use as long as they meet the specifications of the manufacturer. CI4 is the spec for the MJD diesel heart

Yes this is the best brew for any diesel heart in India and yes this is the Delvac 1 that everyone has been raving about

Let's not even compare the two as one is a fully synthetic while the other one is a mineral. They are as different as chalk and cheese. :)

How does it perform (Delvac 1) - I have been using it for almost a 1 lakh kms in my CRDi and 20 k kms in my VDi and only think I can say is Wow !!

Pls. try it and post your feedback

Cheers

Hello folks,

My punto 90HP has done 67K km and the last oil change was at 60K (done at ASC). Just happened to check how the engine oil is when I was getting the engine bay and interiors cleaned. The engine oil level (on the dip stick) has gone down a bit but is well above the minimum mark. The mech suggested I have it changed. I am thinking Shell Helix 15w40 semi synthetic at Rs.1600/4l would be good. Any downsides to this? Tried finding Mobil delvac but none of the 10+ stores that I enquired at, had it, in Mysore.

Further, if there's anything that's been tried and tested (because I want to stick to a brand) for MJDs, could someone please enlighten me?
