Hey,

Could you share the updates on how has your experience been so far with the Delvac. And specifically, a comparison between Shell Helix HX6 vs the Delvac.

Drive safe.

Right let me very honest, i have used the car for 600Km after the oil change now, Zero difference in performance whats so ever.

Both the Oils are Brilliant. NVH levels are low, Car is smooth, Pick up and turbo kick is awesome.

May be i'll feel the difference between shell and mobil post 2000 or 3000km, i'll keep you posted.

Bought Mobil Delvac 1 5L can for 3750 INR. MRP was 4400 INR. Initial price quoted was 4k, Nov 2011 import. (grey can, not the old black ones)

re: All about diesel engine oils

Heard Gulf TD max is a good oil. I'm currently running on Mobil Delvac mx. I too was using Shell Helix HX6 Diesel before Delvac mx. As Crazy4 said, there wasn't any noticeable difference post change to mx. Will switch over to Gulf oil next time.

re: All about diesel engine oils

My faith in Mobil Delvac MX/Delvac 1 was reaffirmed today when I inspected the innards of my 130,000 kms run TATA Safari while changing its sump gasket.
Here's a view of the oil sump and spanking clean oil strainer. My Safari has exclusively run on Delvac MX and Delvac 1.No Sludge,no nothing

Pardon my ignorance but isn't cleaning up the sludge one of the functions of the engine oil ? Shouldn't that reflect on the strainer and the oil sump ?

Delvac MX is mineral and Delvac 1 is synthetic.
So if both perform equally well, why pay for Delvac 1 which costs almost 4 times of MX? I am really getting skeptical these days about the mythology behind synthetic oils...

Good questions, really.
Honestly, I have not seen a used oil strainer or oil sump, I will try to check mine next time.

I use Delvac MX mineral oil and am a happy loyal customer of Mobil.

The Oil filter filters the oil and it is a good practise, though not mandatory, to change the oil filter alongwith the engine oil change!

Yesterday I bought 3 litres of mobil delvac 1 for 2100/- for my swift diesel, but mine was a June 2011 import and the same black can. Which shop did you buy it from.

I agree totally. An automotive engine does not really require a synthetic oil. A good (API-SL or SM) mineral (not even semi-synth) is all that is required. These a petrol grades so look for the diesel equivalents (top or top -1 rating!).

But for a city like Delhi where you are always in a stop n go traffic with cars mostly running on 1st or 2nd gear and lot more gear changes, won't a synthetic oil be better for engine life and extended drain intervals.
