Hey, it is indeed possible to fill R134a refrigerant in a R12 system but do ensure that the work is done by a skilled technician who is familiar with both systems. The system will have to be flushed and serviced and then dealt with carefully. I know a few folks who regularly fill 134a in their old cars that still have the R12 system and they cool quite well.

Another alternative you can consider is taking the AC parts from a scrap 800, preferably a model post 2005. Getting a new AC System is an expensive ordeal and can cost you nearly 25-30k !
