How do you go about driving in an extremely slow moving traffic?
The 'jumping' happens because of the idle rpm & ecu helping not to stall the vehicle. In slow moving traffic, I use first gear on my Swift D.

Are all the parameters exactly the same like time of travel, traffic density, people in the car, gear shift patterns, AC usage, external temperatures etc?

1. Do you fill fuel from the very same pump?
2. Check the tyre pressures.
3. Additional heavy equipment in the car?
4. Get the air filter cleaned up.

Yes. FE is inversely proportional to the weight inside the car.

2. Check the tyre pressures.I mostly drive as per the recommended pressure, i.e, 33 in all 4 tires
3. Additional heavy equipment in the car? No
4. Get the air filter cleaned up.Is it really required for a new car that has just done 5000 km?
Thanks!

No, the parameters are not exactly the same. Now the traffic is more towards the heavier side. As indicated in my earlier post , since I prefer to drive in 2nd gear even in start stop traffic, it results in more usage of clutch to prevent the car to lunge forward. Maybe I should try using the 1st gear in such situations but I don't like the engine over revving in 1st gear. Other answers are inline. Earlier, since the traffic was on the lesser side, clutch usage was on the lower side. All the other parameters apart from these two are mostly same.

Diesel filters can pick up a lot of dust, so it's better that you clean up & re-use the same filter every 5K kms. Hyundai might have some general check ups which costs some 200/- or so & includes checking all fluids, filters etc. A road side mechanic could do the job as well. If you are a DIY person, it should not be complicated at all.

I do NOT recommend usage of 2nd gear from a start stop. And why should there be an over revving in first gear? In start stop traffic, you could move the vehicle easily using the clutch alone in first gear. Try that please.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them out. Over revving happens when I have to quickly speed up in 1st gear to avoid sidewinders cutting into my lane especially the bikers.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

Just an update.

My June'11 car has now done 18K kms. The front coil springs have been replaced under warranty. The front is a stiffer and improves road handling big time. All the road humps do not scrape the bottom now.

Overall great improvement

Cheers

The tiptronic box on the automatic seems more like a suggestion box than something that takes a shift command. Is this normal? I have never seen this in any other automatic I've driven. And no, please, I'm NOT comparing this to the 320d.

I saw on some other forums that people have ordered this from local hyundai service centre.

Can anyone help me out here?

I want the below lever:
Finally, I managed to order this gear knob.

The part code is 437113x200hz and the price is Rs.735

Yeah dude that is normal. Have seen the same on a Sonata CRDi AT as well. Even if you want a shift it will only shift when it deems fit. Most of the time the tip-tronic rejected the shifts I wanted since they were too aggressive.

Picked up the gear knob from Hans Hyundai Moti Nagar yesterday.
The SA told me that changing it is a tedious exercise as the whole panel will need to be opened.
I told him, never mind. Changed it myself today morning using the instructions in the link in my previous post. Total time taken, 5 mins.

Here is how it looks now.

Part Number for Rheostat?

Can someone help with a part number for the Console Illumination Control Rheostat? It's that roller next to the headlamp alignment roller.

This is what I'm talking about (Image is for representation only, as I have the fluidic model) -

I shall try to find out. BTW, what happened to the orignal one?

Edit: Oh, is it because yours is not the SX model and does not have the "supervision cluster"?

Thanks! I really appreciate it.

My car did not come with it. I have the base 1.6 CRDi The console automatically dims when I turn on the park lights. However I'd like to have this option.

Ok, understood. I shall try to bug the store guy again(earlier i bugged him for the gear knob..lol).

Edit: If you want, you can take the VIN number of any SX variant standing in the service centre, walk up to the store and ask him to find out the part number. Thats how i found out for the gear knob.

If you want the vin of my car, PM me, I will give it.

Else, I shall do it on my second service which is coming up shortly.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

Did 30K paid service over the weekend. Total cost came to Rs.7754. Following were done/changed -

Parts -
1. Brake Fluid - Rs.110
2. Coolant - Rs.486
3. Engine Oil - Rs. 1123
4. Fuel filter catridge - Rs. 1751
5. Air filter - Rs.304
6. Oil filter - Rs.366
7. Gasket - Oil Plug -Rs. 33
8. Brake Caliper - Rs.90

Labour -
1. Radiator flushing - Rs. 380
2. AC blower cleaning - Rs. 600
3. Periodic Service Charge - Rs. 850
4. Rear and Front Brake Calibration - Rs. 860

Items 1,2 and 8 in the parts list and items 1,2 and 4 in the labour list were done as part of 30K service. Therefore, hoping the routine 10k service charges to hover around 6K.

In addition to the above, one of the reverse sensors had failed and was replaced. Third one to be replaced. Checked with the SA on the suspension coil spring replacement. He has promised to check my VIN and get back. Mine is April 2011 batch.
