re: My Chill Pill – Ford EcoSport 1.5L Diesel (Ambient Variant). UPDATE - Now Sold!

Thrilled that i could do a DIY to enable the remote option to open the boot! Thanks to BHP'ian bageherath who put up this useful & interesting post!

I am adding this here so that users who specifically search for the Ambient model will get to read this (It might get lost otherwise in the extremely long Ecosport thread).

Dear Ford: I understand that you would like to offer more features for top versions & always thought that the base version costs lower since you don't install the additional features. However in this case the feature of unlocking has been added to the boot already (which must be expensive), the chip also has the option included & yet you have taken great pains to conceal this feature for Ambient owners which actually would have only resulted in higher costs (due to manufacturing & installing remote without the boot lid key for lower versions). Seriously Ford?

Thanks for posting this useful information. I was hoping that Ecosport also had the remote boot open, similar to that of the Figo. Now that its present, I want to give it a shot - but not too soon, as my car is just a week old

Please find below the answers to your questions.
- DRL is connected to parking and indicator sockets.
- I have removed the parking lamps and indicator so that only DRL works
- When headlamp is on, the DRL works (since parking lights are also on)
- I got it done by a guy who works on car electronics. He didn't have to cut wires but had to drill holes inside the headlamp to insert the DRL
- I doubt if it can be done DIY (i don't have the confidence at least)
- Purchased DRL(Alieexpress)online & got it installed by this guy
- I will PM you the cost but trust me it is worth the satisfaction.

Well you are my inspiration to both keeping the thread alive and accessorizing my ride (not as much as you but in my own small way) like the DRL.

Yes it is visible from the side but during daylight it is not bright enough since the strip houses both orange and white LEDs which makes it not bright enough.
Hey Uraj,
As Pkk mentioned can you please share the link from aliexpress and also the guys name?

I have one more doubt, will this DRL installation cause warranty issues?

This is the link -->

On the warranty, I will face as & when it the need arises. To my knowledge I have not touched any of the original wiring and only added this separately. hence they should not impact warranty ideally. Fingers crossed.

re: My Chill Pill – Ford EcoSport 1.5L Diesel (Ambient Variant). UPDATE - Now Sold!

Almost 1 year over & 9300 KM after, I had a relatively open relaxed week & hence decided to give it for the second free service! I called up, booked an slot for next day. The service adviser wanted to know any specific complaints & I had none. Asked them to check the clutch since I found it to have a long push & I have been suffering from minor left knee paid induced by muscle tightness recently (not sure if Ecosport clutch / Diesel has had an impact too) which he said there was no option to tweak / adjust it. Hence asked them to rotate the tires & replace air-filter & oil which was done at a total cost of 1800 INR. No labour cost since this was a free service. The car was cleaned & polished well. Overall a good, smooth service experience I must say.

I also got the revised insurance quote from Ford which was almost on par with first year insurance cost. I then used some sources to check with TATA AIG and got it done at 40% lesser cost compared to what ford offered me.

On the whole, its been a good city vehicle so far & still manages to grab eyeballs on the road. Only still ruing that I should have stuck to my first choice of the automatic since it could have been easy on my left knee. I am tempted by the Polo DSG/TSI engine for the same reason but at the same time don't want to sell my "Chill Pill" so soon & incur a huge loss.

Here are few pictures......

re: My Chill Pill – Ford EcoSport 1.5L Diesel (Ambient Variant). UPDATE - Now Sold!

I'm about to take delivery of my Ecosport Ambiente tomorrow. All I've done to the stock car is add all genuine ford accessories which include the 15" alloys, as the 16" ones are too common now and no longer hold distinct in my view, contrasting all black roof rails and the rear parcel shelf. The Ecopsort is a replacement for my old fusion which I had for a healthy 9 years. I chose the Ambiente version as in my opinion, this version looks the smartest of the lot doing away with all the chrome and body coloured components, and lets face it the lesser you have the lesser to go wrong with. A real no Nonsense car if I may. Now, even though the excitement's pretty, I made a shocking discovery on the PDI that the rear bench doesn't come with head rests. This to me is unacceptable, even tiny little hatch-backs come with a sort of a embedded head rest in the seat. Unnecessary cost cutting by Ford India, my only resentment. Looks odd on a new gen Ford from 2015.

If you take 16' alloys you need to change tyres also which will add to the overall cost. The 15' one which Ford sells is originally made for fiesta i think. The base ecosport model lacks many essential features like power windows and safety features like ABS/Airbags which should never be compromised if you have an option. If i were you, i would have taken the fully loaded Avventura emotion over ES ambiante at almost the same cost anyday. Yes its a size smaller, has a less punchy engine but i get a solidly built car with all the safety features, alloys, steering mounted controls and more ! I own a ES Titanium Btw.

re: My Chill Pill – Ford EcoSport 1.5L Diesel (Ambient Variant). UPDATE - Now Sold!

Dear Mods,

It is with a heavy heard I request you to close this thread since I have sold the car last week.

I had initially booked an automatic and choose a Manual Ambient for some reasons (for which I am kicking myself ). If only I had shown some restrain for the Automatic (In all honestly, Ford didn't seem to have any intention of delivering the Automatic version too), I would not have sold the car less than 2 years from taking delivery.

Anyway as a urban city SUV, it was brilliant and the only reason I am selling it due to my left knee pain (still debating if the Diesel Clutch was the reason or just age catching up ) & lack of features which I am sorely to blame. Also it was time for Insurance renewal, 2nd year service etc which was going to cost me some thousands and with a lot of new compact crossovers coming which could (rather will) dent the ecosport sales, I wanted to sell it when it was still in demand. As I bought it when it was well priced (Ford kept increasing the prize and second class treatment for India over exports was detrimental to the ecosport), I guess both myself & the buyer got a very good deal.

Anyway the search for next car begins and as usual there are many options running in mind. That is however a separate thread and not to be mixed up here.

Adios my dear 'Chill Pill', I already miss you!
