Well I did a thorough R&D before going for PUC certificate.
Normally in Delhi NCR PUC is valid only for 3 months but checked the Motor Vehicle Rules and found that
  1. You can do without PUC for first 365 days from date of registration and this is applicable all over India
  1. for BS IV Cars, PUC validity is 1 year. Even this is applicable all over India.
Tell me about it! I had to frequent quite a few of these centers to find one that finally did it. I wonder if they purposefully refuse to do this 1 year certificate. If there is any rate increase, they will get the benefit. Is there no sticker on the Fortuner proclaiming BS4? Thankfully I was not asked for any proof as the rear windshield proudly claims it and I gave him the insurance copy which also said BS-4. Anyway, it is immensely helpful for us folks - 3 visits less to the PUC wallah.

Which one is it that does this? Even my cars keep getting the PUC renewed every 3 months.

Hi
The location of PUC Centre giving 1 year certificate for BS IV.

Indian Oil Petrol Pump on KHEL GAON/ ASIAD VILLAGE Road. (Also called August Kranti Marg)

While going from outer ring road from Airport side towards Inner Ring Road, turn left below Malvianagar flyover, after Haus Khas/IIT flyover.
This road meets below South Extn flyover through Ansal plaza.
Its the first Petrol pump on left side.

The PUC guys are reluctant to issue 1 year certificate as Government has fixed the same charge irrespective of the tenure so its a revenue loss to them.
If you recall from newspapers in recent months, PUC guys took up the matter with supreme court that now days they are issuing fewer PUC certificate inspite of increased car sales and as a judgement, the court asked Delhi Traffic Police to check PUC more aggressively.

Charges for Diesel car is Rs 100/- (for all tenure) but he asked Rs. 150 pleadingly. I gave him Rs.120.

He would not insist on anything more Rs.100/- but I was in good mood, having found him after 5-6 attempt starting from Gurgaon to many others on outer ring road.

Re: Toyota Fortuner 4X2 MT: Miles to go before, but I have promises to keep

So finally after much thought (not related to the capabilities of the machine), I went to book my 4x2 AT fortuner today. However, much to my disappointment, the waiting periods are somewhere between 2.5-3 months as per galaxy toyota & uttam toyota in Delhi! I heard that the same was around 2-3 weeks a couple of months back. My friend had bought one at that time.

I was hoping to get the delivery in a month or so. The premium for quick deliveries is about 75K which I am not willing to pay. Also I was being told by the touts that the price may be increased by around 60-70K in a couple of weeks (although I think its just one of their tactics). Any insights on how to go about this?

Is this the only dealer in your city? I suppose not. So change your dealer and also write to Toyota regarding this tactics played by the dealer to rope the 75K premium.

Try talking to the SA who sold the Fortuner to your friend, hopefully he should be of help.

I have already enquired from all the dealers and the SA who sold the car to the friend but the waiting time remains the same

I plan to book the car tomorrow regardless of all this and just hope for the best from there

Cool. Whatever it is, do write to Toyota about this.

All the best and Congratulations in advance.

Thanks Anurag. I will surely try to get Toyota's attention to this artificial scarcity.

Hi Manuj,

Wait a minute.
I talked to my dealer.
You call Vikas (I sent you a PM with mobile no)

He will promise for 1.5 months but can give you early. It always happens.
Don't worry about Noida dealer or Delhi dealer, he will do the registration for anywhere in NCR.
Also the service at this dealrship is exceptional (at least for me)

Thanks a lot for the help. So I called Vikas but he was not able to deliver the car before 1.5-2 months as you said. However, I prefer the car by the end of this month due to some personal reasons.

Another dealer has promised to deliver the car in a couple of weeks if I opt for accessories worth 90K. I am still contemplating that option. I was anyways planning to put on the front and rear guards along with some other accessories but 90K seems to be a bit on the higher side for me.

Hi

Buying a Car which is in good demand even after 2-4 years of launch (likes of Fortuner, Scorpio, Duster, Verna Diesel) requires a different approach and following things should be kept in mind.

1. Scarcity/waiting period is artificially created and you should target to get the car within a month unless some deep color is the Final choice.

2. Sales/Showroom will project that car is not available but he can arrange for one, if you are serious.

3. If you go to dealer with a cheque book & pre-approved sanction letter (if any), you are in better position to negotiate.

4. In high value Car like Fortuner & XUV500 likes, I have often seen, the buyer asking for postponement of delivery due to funds/loan/auspicious time etc, even though he booked the car with Initial booking amount. These are the cars, which can be available to you as dealer cannot keep his money blocked.
So much so that Toyota was writing hard letters to customer to take the delivery. Normally customer keeps asking.

It was estimated that only 50% of people, who were allotted XUV under lottery actually took the delivery, when they were asked to pay balance amount. Hence M&M scrapped the lottery. We got our XUV on call from M&M (to find if you were interested to take it now), 2 months after the unsuccessful lottery & 1 month after they refunded the booking amount 40K.

5. If you are buying 10L plus Car & ready with money, meet the highest person possible in the dealership. Salesman are no good. Cars like Fortuner has very less incentives to salesman and hence he would not like to waste more time arranging a car for you. Also remember all salesman are internally allocated the car from Inventory, so Head-Sales can help you better.

6. Please do not except everything on phone. Physical presence has its own value.

7. If you are salaried or professional class & going for loan, dealer is more confident than others and may allot you a car thinking his money from loan would come faster.

8. Throw you weight around, if available.

I have booked the car today. Expected to be delivered next month. Accessories and premium amounts were going crazy so I chose to wait. I plan to write to toyota next week to push them a bit. Hopefully that produces some result

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

PS: The "throwing the weight" thing is the basic instinct being a dilliwala will surely do that

Congratulations on the booking. Do the painful part of an ownership begins - The Waiting Period!

Thanks Anurag. I haven't opted for any accessories and gone through normal booking process but will take a look at some of them at the time of delivery.
