Re: Driven: Volvo XC90

Following the delicensing of some radar frequency bands by the government,Volvo to enable radar-based safety systems on S90, XC90 in India.
Quote:
Volvo is in talks with the government to get the official clearance to use the frequency. Once it is acquired, existing XC90 owners can take their cars to Volvo service centres in the country for a software update to enable the safety systems.
Quote:
With a launch scheduled for September, the S90 sedan will be the first car to get radar-based safety in India. The XC90 for India, however, had some of the radar-based safety features disabled due to the radar frequency restrictions which were in place at the time of the car's launch.

Re: Driven: Volvo XC90

I test drove the XC90 earlier this week. No, I am not planning on purchasing one just getting a feel of it. The characteristics that struck me were - the very high standard of finish of the interiors. Way ahead of an E-class and comparable to an S class. Others may differ but I hold by my view. Just the day earlier I had spent time in an S-class (hired, not mine!) escorting a client around town to meetings hence my memory was fresh. The seats were an orange-brown like what you see in a Bentley and the woodwork had a classy matt finish to it. Engine has a nice roar. Ride comfort in 'Comfort' mode is better than my XC60. Thankfully they have done away with the million buttons control panel of the XC60 and replaced it with a large touch screen.

Your observations are spot on , their cabin is amongst the best and the audio system, one can listen for hours. I was close to buying one last month but for the lousy engine , not that it felt slow, just that it made a different sound - more like an electrical mixer than the sweet sound of 6 cylinder BMW. Besides suspension was more on the softer side.

They plan to launch the hybrid one soon which will have single seats in rear with refrigerator in between , that should definitely set new standards in this as well a segment above.

I hope Volvo come out with the new S.90 sedan in a hybrid version. If they do I'll be first in line to book it.

Re: Driven: Volvo XC90

I am lucky to have 2 brand new volvo XC90s at our office, that came in early 2016, shipped directly in a container from Gothenburg, Sweden, the home of Volvo.

Both are white (Diplomatic Number Plates), one with Black and the other with beige interiors. I'm at the Swedish Embassy.

And rightly said, they are great lookers.

I haven't taken the liberty to drive them, as we have official drivers. However, on maybe a long expressway trip some day, I'll take the wheel.

Thought, many times i like to sit up front and play with the centre touch screen panel, mood and ambient lighting, sound settings, etc. etc.

I found the engines a bit gruff in the beginning, but after covering around 10000 kms, they feel more smoother and quieter.

As soon as we sit even in the back seat, the driver reminds us to wear the seat belt, because of the automatic braking system that activates sometimes in the Delhi traffic.

Re: Driven: Volvo XC90

Getting not so great deal for XC90 after GST revision.

Pre GST XC90 Inscription with extended warranty was 1.20 Cr , it was offered at 1.03Cr and after GST it got a price cut of 9L and on road price with extended warranty is 1.10Cr. The deal I got now is same as earlier which is 1.03Cr. MD of Volvo Bangalore says that post GST manufacturer has reduced discount cushion, but on the bright side the deal is offered for MY18 103.5 model. Will be booking in a week.

I was happy that they launched T8 Inscription in 7 seater and was willing to buy it irony is that they don't have a single TD car in entire India.

There is a MY16 car available for immediate delivery at 94L.

Re: Driven: Volvo XC90

Rode as a passenger in an XC90 to Chikmagalur and back. My observations were

1: Seats are the best in the business - not a single ache at all. Only problem is that there are so many permutations to choose from

2: Very minimal road noise compared to the germans- you could have a decent conversation throughout. In fact the B&W system as hardly on since we were chatting away.

3: Diesel engine is a little noisy compared to the GLC/GLE Mercs

4: My wife found the rear seat really comfortableand the AC was powerful for her

5: The air suspension mutes sharp bumps

6: It is a bit of a handful in tight estate roads

7: Comfort mode is wallowy. I suggested switching to dynamic mode which made all the difference.

All in all, a wonderful mile muncher

Re: Driven: Volvo XC90

Any idea on pricing/ discounts on the 4 seaters T8 variant? Also, if anyone had a chance to drive and can comment on performance vs regular diesel.
