This makes the MJD the most ideal candidate for ABS! I know retrofitting ABS won't be easy. Would a tyre upgrade, to say Michelin XM1+, help have safer braking?

I once experienced the same, only difference was instead of the spead breaker, there was a Tempo ahead of me! Gladly it stayed a feet away from it thou it skidded!

The brakes felt quite spongy and now i keep a safe distance when i'm at speeds...but if suddenly a speed breaker or a pothole appears, you cant help it but to apply breaks at a relative speed than jump on it and downshift the gears immediately!

Thats when I realise how ABS is important.

*Attention Palio Stile Owners*
Do you have a "Door Open" indicator light in your dashboard? A friend of mine recently purchased a used 2007 Palio Stile 1.1. I see a red light on the dashboard that lights up when any door is opened. However, I don't have this feature on my MJD. Is this a feature that has been discontinued by Fiat? Also, I know of another change - Stiles now have the clear lens turn indicator in place of the orange ones at the back.

Palio Stile 1.1 (2007 Model) - Has "Door Open" indicator
Palio Stile 1.1 NEW - ???
Palio Stile MJD (2008) - Does not have "Door Open" indicator
Palio Stile 1.6 Sport - ???

Can someone confirm?

Yeah, my Stile 1.6 has the Door open indicators in the console. I suppose it should be at yours too, may be not working. But confirm the same from other MJD owners!

Checked with a colleague who owns an MJD: The door open indicator is not present in his MJD either. Fiat has funny ways of cutting down essentials. What's even more ridiculous is that, they give this feature even on the SLE variant of 1.1 but not on the SDX!

As confirmed from a Fiat After Sales Service source, "It comes only in Palio Stile Petrol top end model 1.1 & 1.6 "

Interesting ways of cutting cost! Why would Fiat have to deny this safety feature to MJD customers is beyond my thinking.

Does MJD have the cabin light which has another position between on and off, which will in effect act as a door ajar indicator? This could come in handy in the absence of the actual indicator on the dashboard.

Thats news for me! completely illogical not to provide this to Diesel version while its given in Petrol!

Regarding other pt you mentioned, I suppose the Cabin lights only work for front 2 doors and not for the back so I wonder this would help anyways if door is open in the rear!

Is it like this in Stile? It works for me not only for the 4 doors, but also for the hatch in my 1.2 NV ELX.

Now this is like to me!

If i open the hatch ( deekie), the cabin lights do not come on, same for the rear doors!

Can other Palio Stile Petrol owners confirm?

@ pjbiju & DueLLer, its not at all about cost cutting, but more about what intrument cluster has been provided in which model. Here's how the intrument clusters have been carried forward in the Stile variants :-

1]The Palio 1.1 top end & 1.6 Stile has the instrument cluster carried over from the Palio 1.6 GTX & Palio 1.2 Sport NV, wherein both the models used the same unit. Its only on these intrument clusters that the door ajar warning was present since launch. These are the "sporty" white coloured ones.

2] The bottom end Palio Stile 1.1 models have the cluster carried forward from the Palio 1.2 EL/EL PS/ELX (except the Palio Sport 1.2), which dont have the door ajar indicator. These clusters do not have a tachometer.

3] The Palio Stile MJD has the cluster carried over from Palio 1.9D & the top end Palio 1.2 OV (not NV), which is basically the black instrument cluster of the 1.2 as mentioned in (2) with the addition of the tacho. even these never had the door ajar indicators.

I know its confusing because of the three instrument clusters fitted across different variants, but thats the way its always been since 2001.

do you know anyone who can do that for a Palio?

My SDX cabin lights come on only for the front two doors and when i installed remote locking i have to wait for the cabin lights to go off before i lock the car else the car thinks a door is open and sounds an alarm.

Imagine what will happen when hood hatch and two rear doors are also put on the circuit.

Will need someone who really knows how to work a Palio and these are a rare breed. So do you know someone?

Uh oh! I believe that is happening because both your remote lock and cabin light are using the same switch - the rubber blob between the body & the door. The remote lock "senses" that the doors are locked when the said switch is in the OFF position. Unfortunately, the theatrical dimmer lights delay the powering off.

To resolve the issue, you could get rid of the dimming lights, but I guess no MJD owner would have the heart to do that. Else, the remote lock would need to "sense" the locked doors using another (??) switch.

Is this "remote lock" Fiat approved? If it is, they should be held responsible for this fiasco.
