Booked my Palio 1.3 MJD Today! EDIT: Got delivery now

Hi Everyone,

I've always been a silent member on this forum and have also met up with a couple of tbhpians. I finally have something to share. I was looking around for a new car to replace my 2004 Maruti Zen. It had to be a diesel for the simple fact that I love the turbo rush and the reduced cost per litre. Besides, Pete'ing the Diesel is something I'm looking forward to. With that in mind, I shortlisted the following cars - Swift VDi, Skoda Fabia, Indica V3 (Quadrajet), Getz CRDi, and the Palio 1.3 MJD.

Being a Maruti owner, my first choice was the Swift VDi, but the crazy waiting period was something unacceptable to me. The Fabia went straight out, thanks to the cost of spares and ownership. Indica V3 Quadrajet seemed nice, but I always despised the Indica (no offense meant to anyone, just my personal opinion) and the interiors of the V3 didn't impress me. Getz CRDi seemed like a delectable option, but is priced too high and beyond my budget at around 6.5 OTR, Vashi. Had a chance encounter with the Palio 1.3 MJD, when a friend offered his car for a spin. Instantly fell in love with the engine, which is why I chose Diesel over Petrol. Also, loved the amazing bootspace and build quality of the car, which I have never seen in any Maruti. As someone on this forum said, the Palio is, indeed, a poor man's Skoda!

Last weekend, I went to Fortune Cars in Nerul enquiring about the Palio 1.3 MJD. After waiting for half-an-hour, I was told that they don't have the car for TD. The staff were impolite and wasted my time. Then, on Monday, I went to Wasan Motors in Chembur. Was treated nicely by their staff and even managed to get a TD without much of a hassle. Compared thier offer with others I got and found out that, along with the freebies, a lower EMI would ensure a great deal. Bargained on their offer (thanks to TBHP for the buying a new car thread) and got a good deal with free insurance and freebies such as mats and mud flaps, and a lower EMI. Indeed, month-ends are a great time to buy a new car, thanks to their deadlines and targets! Paid the booking amount yesterday and submitted all the required documents. Booked the Magnesium Grey color, although I love the white one too.

Expected delivery date is 4th October. Now, I just hope and pray that I have made the right choice - never owned any car other than a Maruti before! Will keep you guys posted as the purchase progresses. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

Cheers!

Indeed, it is a crazy period for interest rates. I think ICICI is offering 16.5% floating, while HDFC offers 14% fixed. As far as the EMIs are concerned, my guess is that one would pay about 6k/month for 5 yrs for a loan amount of about 2,50,000. I'm only guessing these numbers based on my experience, only a car salesman can give you closer figures.

Cheers!

Besides free insurance for the first year, the dealer has promised mud flaps and mats. Yes, I'll upload pics as soon as I take delivery of the car.

CONGRATS DueLLer.. You will enjoy every moment inside a Palio.

Today when drove to my office was surprise to see couple of Palio's on display there. There was a road show from VST Motors. 2 Palio's and 1 IV. Think TATA-FIAT hands are coming outdoors now.

I agree the Palio's interiors are dated compared to any other new car. No digital tachometer, even my bike has one! For that matter, even my 2004 Zen has better gear knobs! It is the Palio's solid build quality that I fell for. About the Indica, somehow, the interiors still feel cheap, especially the way the numbers are positioned in the speedometer & tachometer in the V3 and the font. But, each to his own! In comparison, the Swift's instrument console looks the freshest & best. Palio's instrument console is still acceptable. I hope I have not offended anyone, all this is personal preference and I have only stated mine.

Cheers!

Sorry for the misinformation. I meant "No digital odometer, even my bike has one!" The V3's dials could have been much better & more modern.

Dueller, thanks for the interest rate info buddy, I agree with you that MJD has better postioned instrument console. Infact, when I test drove the Vista, found the instrument position very odd. I didn't look at it much, also the Vista build quality doesn't match up to the palio's build. In fact it is apparent when you shut the doors. The biege patch in front of the driver (where the instrument console is usually placed) looked rather cheap- not like the i10 finish. These are just my individual preferences and points which i noted.
