Dont you guys think its about time to change the title? This is a great color, why mask it with Mountain Green (another great shade, though!).

Another advice, do not engage 4x4 when vehicle is moving(forget shift on the fly thingy). It will ensure long long life of your 4x4 system

hey tsk, then what is the use of the shift on the fly?
i mean dont the manufacturers take enough precautions in such a system?

does it wear out the 4x4 tranny faster?

You could seek an opinion from the manufacturers just to be 100% sure.

Borg & Warner are the manufacturers.

You can safely do this with 4x4 HIGH upto 60kmph. No issues so far with doing this on the fly.

You cannot do it with 4x4 LOW, where you have to be static.

@ suman: i think tsk or tata may have an answer.
when i buy a car from tata, i would contact tata for any problems or advise, not the component manufacturer.
like i said earlier in the tie rod breaking incident, i would contact tata as their customer, not 'rane' who supplies tie rods to tata! i am tata's customer, not rane's!

FYI, TATA recommends shift on the fly for 4H as mentioned by Steeroid. Since you have additional queries, I thought it would be best to contact the manufacturer as I mentioned ;)

Yes Tata recommends, Mahindra recommends etc., etc.,
but as a good practice even on 4H, stop the car and then shift.
My 4x4 was not engaging due to a pin bend issue.
According to the GM workshop(who was very well versed with 4x4 systems) its always a good practice to stop the vehicle and then engage 4x4, otherwise, sometimes issues can crop up. It also increases life of the system.


After the 4x4 issue in my safari, I always stop the vehicle before engaging 4x4.

Its a mixed kind of feeling. Few things i like about the beast few i dont.
Love the 'feel' factor. The size, the stance, the space, the view, the looks, thinks of those kinds.
Ride quality is excellent. Potholes only get heard and not felt. 10/10 on the ride quality.
Now the negatives:
Gearshift is stiff especially the first and the reverse. Its at times difficult to change especially when shifting between 1, 2,& 3.
Vibrations from the engine in 1,2 &3rd gear, a little in the fourth before it becomes really smooth.
basically i'm not very happy with the gearshift and its effect. I hope it will be taken care of in the first service.
There is a hissing sound when steering is at full tilt (both sides).
Cant do anything to the headunit while driving even if i try hard. Steering remote seems to be the only solution.
FM sounded great at the dealers, but now it sounds like its mistakenly caught a russian shortwave signal, comes and goes on its own.
Sound of wind in both front doors (as if the glass is left a little open) at 40+ speed.
Buy hey! I'm not complaining. It still is a wonderfull piece of machinery and i'm loving every moment of it.
Didnt get too much time to drive. Just done 180kms as yet.
Additions in the interior:
1. Floor mats.
2. Autographix panelling on the dash.
3. A paper napkin holder
4. Steering cover.

WIll take out time soon for the ICE setup and the sensors/camera.
Will keep posting.

Abhiknov - Interiors of your beast looks so good. Congrats on your purchase and I am sure you must be enjoying the beast really well.

Safari for many is a dream come true car and I am waiting for the day when I will also fullfull my dream, but right now its over to my other dream car that I am living right now - Maruti Baleno.

By the way the red colour looks really neat on safari - never seen one before and the colour has taken my fancy.

Also another question that kept coming to my mind and that is Red colour fades away faster - so have you done the clear paint treatment on your car as that will help it go long way with lot of shine.

I have the same question. How is the beast doing ? Guess what .. im bringing a safari, RED one by this month end. The interiors look more fresh with the graphics panel you did. Safari folks from bangalore, any idea where can i get the dashboard panel graphics done in the city ?

The HU looks bad though. But, how does it sound ? Is it decent enough considering it is a stock HU ? Just wondering does it have a remote ? stupid:

IMO, a nudge guard will give it a macho look. Try to get a lot of black on your beast since the contrast goes really well. ex. Darker sunfilm, door visors. Also, i feel the look from the rear will be good if you don't get the wheel cover off. I would do that if the color is black and i have great looking alloys. Not the stock ones. I think most of us here would agree with me.

And finally, the pearl white, cycus green and black are best colors for safari. Having said that, your RED beast really makes a statement. It surely gets a second look from anyone having other colors. 10/10 on your choice. The beige seats too look fantastic in the red.

On a lighter note, i have decide to disappoint my wife too. she doesn't like the red on safari.

Killer Safari... the RED just takes it a step ahead :) Wish I could get my hands on one of those for good ;)
