Why on earth would you put a Santro and lower spec badge on the car? That part completely beats me. |
Thanks Ajay! And yes some ICE would be great, after all there is a limit to how much music a man can hear off an iPhone using the headphone!
And tum ICE-WICE waale nahin samjhoge yeh 1.1 ki kahaani!!

She's quick by any means man! The in-gear acceleration is phenomenal!

Reason for asking this is that I run an OHC vtec in pune thats clocked close to a lac kms now and i believe yours has done close to 2. Would be interested to know the ageing issues of this particular car. |
Thanks Mega!
As for the problems, well they were mostly related to the age of the rather then anything else. She was still giving me about 10-12 kmpl and ran nicely but small niggles had started cropping up every now & then and that had been irritating me. Also the fact that I had had the car for over 5 years played a part in this decision as I had become bored of drivig the same car over & over.
For example, the combination switch developed a problem & I could no longer switch to high beam and then the fuel guage stopped working. It was small niggles like these which caused me the most irritation. Most fundamentals though, gave me reliable, trouble free service till the end. In fact in my nearly 2 lakh kms of driving, I got stranded only once, when she broke her Timing Belt at 120k kms & that too only costed me 2k in repairs (1.2k belt + .8k bearing) as it was a non-interference engine!
As for the main things you should watch out for in a high-mileage OHC, they are:
1. Steering Rack Leakage/Failure
2. A/C Compressor Failure
3. Tie-Rod Ends premature failure
4. Weak Suspension (generally requires a rebuild around 80-100k kms mark)
5. Light Sheet Metal so easily picks up dents & dings.
Apart from that she's bloody reliable and also remember, none of these problems will leave you stranded so in that manner, she's very very reliable & trustworthy. I'd done hundreds of late night & odd time runs in her & she never let me down apart from that once incident which was also partly our mistake as we'd forgotten to replace the Timing Belt on schedule.
Also, part of the reason I was a little put off was that after market support for this model was virtually non-existent so sourcing better than OE quality parts was almost impossible unless you went for some crazily expensive parts.
If you do have any specific queries though, feel free to PM me.
