I did Monaro. But somehow the ones I saw sometime ago - with the wrap around the headlights (not sure if that is what you saw)- seemed OK and offered more protection that what we have as it is attached to the chasis and not just to the bumper as it is in our case. Wanted to change it but then there was no exchange value for the current guard I have - so dropped it !
But yeah the current guard is a better looker !

The Fortuner is is a Full Time 4WD Vehicle and 90% of offroad situations you need not do anything extra. If you get into a situation where you have lost traction due to one wheel spinning, you can go to 4HL which will lock the center diff. You need to use 4LL only in extreme inclines/declines where you need to crawl down at low speed or need load of Torque to climb.
Umm is anyone travelling to Leh Ladakh circuit in Fortuner. I tried to search a travelogue/report, seems that there is next to none in that section from the owners who might have taken it there. I am pretty interested to know how it performs on that unforgiving conditions roads.

Well perhaps there is no separate travelogue in Team-BHP to Leh Ladakh but there is a travelogue of similarly unforgiving terrain to Himachal which should give you a fair idea of this beasts capabilities. It's an excellent write-up.

Yes i went through this rather quickly Thanks. Actually speaking 1 report isnt enough to deduce that vehicle performs good on those circuits ( wanted to have couple of viewpoints on this) E.g. there is only one owner (of the vehicle) who reports turbo lag as a factor when negotiating steep climbs).
Anyways. i see this year loads of ppl are going to that circuit..Perhaps someone with Fortuner might write a travelogue. :D

I wanted only one(left side/co-passenger side) and any idea where in bangalore i can get? i heard they sell as a pair, but i dont want to spend too much money on that. So if i can get only one(even used one), it will be great(cost saving :) )
Any one can help me finding the correct pricing on the fog lamp cover? Local dealers are telling 3000 + Tax for single side. Just the black cover around the fog lamp costing so much :(

What are the SUVs that have 4H, 4L along with Diff locking capability within 25L today in India. I assume there are only a few - like Fortuner and Pajero Sports. Is that correct?
Do Safari Strome and Scorpio also have it.. I know they have 4H and 4L, but do they have LSD and Diff lock?
Sorry if they are very basic questions. I am a novice trying to understand.
And whats the difference between LSD and Diff Lock? Are they one and the same?

I will add my query to Sathya's query above.
True blue SUVs' with 4h, 4l with AT - As of now Fortuner does not provide this combination/variant. Is there any hope that this will ever materialiase or the market dynamics are such that there will not be much demand for such a combination and hence not much probability of it happening?
Yes, I am aware that such a combination is available with Scoprio VLX 4WD AT and Montero and the higher end trucks such Prado et all.

Force Gurkha has both front & rear, cable actuated diff locks. Tata Safari comes with Rear LSD.
Enough and more about diff locks, LSD etc is discussed in the 4x4 section. Best option is to go trough these links (and search around for more), else this thread could become a LSD/Diff Lock thread, rather than a Fortuner thread :)

The Force Gurkha is the only vehicle available below 25 Lakhs with Diff locks. The Fortuner and Pajero can lock only the center diff/T-Case but if any wheel spins, it will loose traction.

Safari Storme has rear LSD. It is not a Full Time 4WD system so essentially once you engage 4H or 4L is is same as 4HL (in the Pajero or Fortuner)
Scorpio doesn't have any diff locks or LSD. If there is wheel spin, you have to say prayers and try to get out.
