I saw an interesting specimen today, all covered up with some kind of paint protection film (the underlying color appears to be black).
I'll reserve all comments (positive/negative) about the choice of the film color. However, I was wondering if this whole-body-paint-protection thing is the new craze. How much would such an effort cost for the likes of the Fortuner?
Incidentally, I happened to spot a BMW 3 with the same treatment, albeit different color, yesterday in Bangalore. |
I saw this fortuner in Goa too. It looked gawdy .
Went to book fortuner4*4mt, but came back empty handed
Only white and pearlwhite available. We wanted silky gold. Dealer says mam 3 months waiting. Is that true across india?
I mean cmon toyota how can you force white color enmass and the discourage other color buyers.
Over and above to rub salt, try AT for Testdrive as 4*4 mt isnt available as of now.
Truly disgusting

Send out a mail to Toyota and you may have some positive response, at least with respect to the 4x4 test drive. Once you escalate, they might even try and ship a color of your choice, if that is manufactured in the mean time.

I think its the wrap and NOT a paint protection film. The advantage with this wrap is that they are cheaper than a full body painting and also reversible once you get bored - which is the BIGGEST advantage.
Though even I am NOT a big fan of this, it does give a certain character to the Fortuner.

The whites are the fastest moving color and hence everyone will stock those for sure. All other colors are manufactured in batches and are not available off the shelf because of varying demands. The beige will be more easily available in the 4x2 or Auto variants than the 4x4, that's what I have noticed.
The 3 months story is standard for them to run a batch of any color that isn't white and not in stock. I guess that's the production lead time for Toyota to gather bookings and run a batch of 20-30 vehicles at a time. Also, there are good chances you'll get it within three months but they won't commit to it.
For the test drive, check with some other dealer, it can't be that the 4x4 isn't available for test drives everywhere.

Agree with Amol, It is definitely following the "under promise, over deliver" philosophy and they will deliver it early most of the times.
I too liked the silky gold initially but felt it was too light for our liking, Good color though!

Well, it seems that toyota will increase the price in jan again as per latest news. If so then the dream will have to be thrown out and then concentrate only on seconds :(
I called up Ravindu Toyota to enquire about the price of a Fortuner he gave me the breakup and at the end mentioned that there is a price increase due in Jan. The Fortuner already touches 29.xx in Bangalore with phenomenal taxes over here a price increase will just make this step into Bmw and Audi territory. Come on Toyota you can't expect to keep increasing prices and blame it on the failing rupee. And once you enter Bmw and Audi territory there is a slight chance that a Fortuner will be selected. Stop it Toyota, we know that you provide excellent cars that are reliable and safe to ride for a long time but expecting to pay a lions share for it! C'mon you are not here as Lexus or as a luxury brand, your here as Toyota only. Fortuner is a SUV or a pick up truck it's not a connoisseur's car, give up trying to pass it as a premium car.
@D'artagnan: In India expensive car = premium car. India is the only country where Skoda & Chevy Captiva is a *premium* car. These are econoboxes in the rest of the world.
Can anyone actually outline how much the fortuners price increased since it's launch. That is how much in the price rise is contributed by higher excise and how much has been the price rise in the ex showroom price. It would add a good perspective to the perineal discussion of justifying a fortuner's pricing. I have gone twice to look at the fortuner but every time I come back I can't get my head around the pricing. But the 25 to 30 lacs segment is such today in india that there's not much against the fortuner. So an actual picture of the price rise along with its break up would put things more clearly.

I did make that calculation when I was contemplating buying the Fortuner. If you do the maths the % increase in the price of the Fortuner is not more than what the other cars have seen for instance the XUV. But ofcourse with every similar % increase, the overall brunt is more on the Fortuner due to the higher taxes and insurance amounts leading to a higher OTR price.

More information.
When we insisted to make booking of the specified color of choice, the toyota dealer said wait for few days so we can check our incoming allocation for december and then make the booking. I have never experienced this way before so asking you experts here. Is something fishy ?

I did go for the delivery and then drove it for a couple of days. Now back to work :deadhorse!
Here you go:
Fortuner ( refreshed) 4x4 MT at time of launch: Rs. 20.99L
4x4 MT current price: Rs. 23.5L
Percentage increase: 11.9%
XUV500 W8 at time of launch: Rs. 11.95L
W8 current price: Rs. 13.60L
Percentage increase: 13.8%
So actually the XUV prices have gone up by a higher percentage than the Fortuner. But the Fortuner also has to bear higher Insurance and tax rates due to a higher amount and hence looks much more pricier. Also the fact that the next segment of premium Germans gets very dangerously close to the current price of the Fortuner and things can get more messy ( what happened in my case!).
