So you are happy?
Dealer agreed to book the car in 1st week jan2010 based on the present price with agreed discount 50k.
Suggest, after few days ask him to give a quotation (say it is for your bank loan purpose) so that you have written confirmation and then he cannot go back and change the rate/discount etc.

But it seems that you have not yet decided the car?
Still dancing between (of confusion) fiesta,SX4 and City?

No, there is no City in mind,
i am very well convinced with fiesta, my only preconceived notion is regarding the leg space and that too is pointed more strongly by my younger brother and asked me to try SX4 as well,
IN fact there is a difference of around 1 lac but the real difference lies with the fiesta is that it is a superb car,
but as you all know that being a family person, you have to consider all apsects, so just hovering around

If you ask me my heart says FIESTA RULES ALWAYS

Clarification on ABS

Guys - During my recent trip i was able to activate ABS and here are my observations. Need clarification if this is how all Fiestians have felt when ABS gets activated or am i the only one

1. Vehicle seems to slow down and did stop right on track in straight line, but i get a feeling that the vehicle was slipping and not sure if it would stop. May be due to the absence of the screeching sound during hard braking and no smoke from the tires. But still wanted to confirm.

2. When ABS gets activated my audio system restarts (switches off and on) is this common or is there any electrical checking to be done?

3. I am getting a feeling that the vehicle is trying to wander on the road at high speeds. I did not get this feeling before the ABS activation. Should i be checking something here? I am speaking abt speeds above 120Km/hr is where i get this feeling and i dont get this feeling below this speed.

The Fiesta is supposed to be stable at high speeds. You may want to check wheel alignment and balancing.

I have no idea about the ABS issue, but try and drive at speeds that don't require ABS to come on.

Moonraker - Audio system getting switched off and on while heavy braking has nothing to do with ABS. Please get it checked at Ford A.S.S.Also the vehicle wandering at speeds above 120+ might be because of wheel alignment. Get it checked.

then i need to drive at 20Km/hr, because ABS gets activated at this speed. The wandering part started happening after the hard braking, would hard braking make the wheel alignment go for a toss?

I have 2 things to sort out this weekend.

1. Water logging
2. Wandering issue.

Not sure if the 3rd one will be answered this weekend as i am certain i would get a response that it would be checked during my first service.
3. Audio system restarting during ABS activation (Not a big issue)

Well, last weekend I finally decided to test the limits of my Fiesta ( the craziest thing to do in Chennai) I was cruising at 160 and yes, oh boy it was a beautiful drive, except for a truck who decided to take a u turn on a highway with utter disregard for oncoming vehicles. I had to break hard and managed to stop inches before the truck. My heart was in my mouth and it was one of the close encounters that I have had. The car did not skid but I could not experience the ABS coming into action. I have heard from the service folks that you can feel the jerks on the brake pedals when ABS is activated, however I did not notice any such jerks( or I may have missed to note it). Has any one else experienced the ABS coming into action.

The other day even I had to apply brakes suddenly at the traffic lights, although I could have moved on not before falling into the hands of the waiting traffic cops. Even I could not feel the ABS coming into picture, but the vehicle stopped right on the tracks almost immediately as if it was asking me stop right then and there. No flash of ABS indicator on the screen. Maybe my speed was 60kmph, was it because of that?
Yesterday the petrol pump indicator started glowing with 75KM on DTE and the fuel indicator very near to the red mark. Later I was told by Ford exec that below 80km on DTE the pump indicator would glow. Personally I felt that the reserve on 7 ltrs would start after the fuel meter needle reaches the red mark. Correct me if I am wrong.

The moment you have 80 km on DTE the petrol pump indicator glows.

You expecting ABS flash indicator come on the screen when ABS is activated?

ABS Warning lamp flashing comes when you are driving which means this
flash indicates a malfunction and you have to check this. So if the flash comes that means the ABS is not working, But you still can have the normal braking system working.

So, you are not getting any such flash means that your ABS is working fine

What do you mean by ABS activation? is there any switch to activate?
imo, ABS is a braking system which will function when you press the brake pedel heavily? (are we have to do anything special to activate this system?)

There will be a small pulse you can feel on the brake pedal when ABS is operating, and a noise will be heard during emergency braking.

ABS warning flash light should not come on the instrument panel, if something happens like this then you should understand that there is some problem with your ABS

@nair sir,

Thanks for the clarification. But in such cases how do I realize that ABS has done its job? Just by the fact that I braked and car stopped does it mean that ABS has activated. Although stopping at desired time and distance would be more than enough for me but just the curiosity as to how to realize ABS has really helped me achieve the desired stopping.

I recently drove to Kakabe in Coorg where there are a few of the most beautiful roads for slow cruising. They are very steep and very narrow, but well paved. I was doing speeds like 30kmph and whenever i had to brake on a stretch with gravel ABS kicked in with the brake pedal pulsing noticeably.

ABS has nothing to do with the speeds you drive at or brake from. Its only when a wheel starts to lock that ABS kicks in.

You will feel light pulsation on the brake pedal when ABS function comes into active. However you need not to worry whether ABS is functioning or not. It is inbuilt mechanism which support proper braking.

Also see the comments of @govinda-govinda.

Audio system playing a CD might even pause for a moment if you get a big jerk - in case hitting a pothole.

Drive Safe.

Exactly. Even on wet roads the ABS kicks in at low speeds. In the past 19K of driving, I've felt ABS working only 4 or 5 times---3 times at high speeds, and once at a speed of 30 kmph on a wet road. For all that I know, ABS might have worked several other times too, but I do not recall any pulsation of the brake pedal.

One sure way of finding out if ABS is working is to brake from a high speed of about 100 kmph. There should be no screeching sound of the tyres---that is the best indicator. Pulsating of the pedal may not occur at all times.
