My New Car: Abaster Silver ANHC V AT

The process started in Dec 2009 and ended in May 2010. This thread will start off with my search, the decision, delivery and a LTR will continue.

With the decision being taken to sell the vRS - I had to find myself a new car. I was advised to get a new car not a used one and I had a budget of approx 10 L INR to play with. So I started short listing the cars which could make the cut - the Chevy Optra Magnum, the Mitsubishi Cedia and the ANHC were the top 3 - the Ford Fiesta was still there somewhere in the mix.

First up the Mitusbishi Cedia - took a TD and was smitten. What a car - superb interiors, great features, a bit dated but what the heck - it was awesome fun to drive.

Then came the ANHC manual - super silky smooth to drive though a bit un-involving with no features compared to the Cedia. I found it a bit over priced at the price.

Last came the Chevy Magnum - stonker of a bloody engine and awesome to drive but I could not connect majorly due to the full Beige interiors.

I was clear then that the Cedia is the one I was going to buy but my better half vetoed the idea as she found it very similar looking to a Lancer (a bigger Lancer it is, she said) and my heart broke into a thousand pieces.

Now what would I do ?..................Will I get the one I love ?

Nice way to start the story by not revealing the car purchased.

Congratulations on the new car (whichever it is).

I am guessing that it would be a Chevy Optra Magnum. Engine performance for N_C and beige interiors for the lady. Both happy.

Hope you start burning the roads soon !

I know what it is, but anyway... it's nice that you're trying to do a Sam with this thread. Congrats on the new car buddy

BTW, shades of Yeti's writing style evident here. Another 5-star thread?

Why are we dragging The Yeti into this ?

Are other people not allowed to write stories ?

Bring it on N_C, I prefer your way of writing. Sam totally ruined his last story by not maintaining suspense on the car purchased. Also he has left the Superb story unfinished and vanished into thin air.

It seems to be the Cedia after all!!

Probably you could finally go with your heart and convince your better half....

Things cooled down after the rejection of the Cedia and I was sulking. After some time I thought of going for a used car and started the search right in earnest.

Short listing the cars - I concluded that the Skoda Laura, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Honda CRV would fit the bill. The problem was finding a genuine car - I was prepared to wait and bide my time (after all I had got the vRS after a patient wait). I kept checking cars on a regular basis - the Team BHP classifieds, Carwale and Times Drive were the only 3 things I used to look at.

One day I got a call about an Altis AT - a 2008 light blue colored Altis with only 10000 kms on the odo - I did not believe it. Went and checked the car out. And it was in the most SUPERB condition I have ever seen - no scratch anywhere, no dent anywhere and super clean interiors - I gave my offer and walked off hoping that the deal would materialize but nothing happened ....my heart broke a 2nd time.

Next I was called to check out a Skoda Laura PD - run only 7000 kms since June 2009 - it was silver in color and had black interiors (I love) - I fell in love for the 3rd time but the asking price was way too high and I nursed a broken heart one more time.

Still looking I cam across a 2005 Hyundai Sonata done 52000 kms - in absolute great condition. I got the car checked and cross checked, all was fine and I paid a non-refundable deposit. But when I spoke to the office regarding the car, the idea was vetoed and the deposit turned out to actually be non-refundable.

Till now I was avoiding the Honda's - now I started looking at them too. Civic's and Accords were the 2 cars I zeroed in on - but I failed to find any good ones.

Meanwhile the diktat from the office was that the vRS had to go first and the money from that sale was to be the down payment for the new car.

Now that it was decided that I would be buying a new car - I decided to sit down and sort out the priorities that would help me in the decision making.

It was time to get sorted then....

I usually drive from Powai to Navi Mumbai and back daily mostly during peak time. I thought an AT would make good sense but then what about the FTD factor ? That set me thinking again.

1) ANHC AT would be the perfect car for me but....it is a petrol.

2) The Chevy Magnum made more sense, diesel power with superb FE but beige interiors ?? naahh

3) Cedia - that is a car after my own heart and it's got awesome black interiors and tonnes of features + it's FTD but it has been rejected.

That left me with a choice between the ANHC and the Magnum. The decision was easy to make then.......

I got the Fiesta into the mix

Where ever I saw a Fiesta S, I started talking about it endlessly and gushing about it's FTD factor. I tried to impress on my better half the virtues of feeling happy when driving and how the Fiesta would help me feel happy. Then I showed her the BLUE shade I would get if the Fiesta was the chosen one ........

The Fiesta dream ended then and there ..... :(

Thinking about the 2 cars in contention, I decided on what I would choose.

I chose to play NARAD again and brought the Chevy Cruze into the picture.
