Re: Civved : Poovar

Day 04, 7th May 2011
Neyyar

We took a round in the park

Kathakali

Some sculptures in the park. These were the only thing I remembered from my visit to Neyyar dam sometime in my childhood.

Neyyar Dam

We left the Dam by 17:30PM and drove towards Marthandam. We reached Marthandam by 18:30PM.

There was a very huge traffic pile up in NH47 towards Nagercoil.

Believe it or not, we reached Nagercoil only by 21:00PM. This is not happeneing, another 8 hours of drive remaining to Bangalore. I have decided that it does not make sense to do the night out after such a tedious 2 hour drive. I was frustrated and felt that its better to rest and continue the next day.

We found a hotel -VV Grand on the Highway itself. Rooms were good and spacious. So decided to spend the night there.

Spacious Room

We had dinner there and by 22:30PM we retired for the day.

Day 04, 7th May 2011
Nagercoil - Bangalore

We woke after a comfortable sleep by 08:00AM.

The views from the room

Had breakfast and left Nagercoil by 10:30AM. Reached Salem by 14:00PM. Was a pleasant and fast drive.

Since we reached Salem early we decided to check out the beautiful route to Yercaud recommended by bhpian rameshnanda. We drove to Yercaud .

You can read that here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ndicherry.html Post 98 and onwards.

After doing that quick trip to Yercaud, we reached Salem back by 19:30PM. We eventually reached Bangalore by 22:30PM.

And thus a beautiful holiday becomes a memory, and a travelogue

The End.

Re: Civved : Poovar

Great travelogue and beautiful snaps.
Came across this thread as i was searching for some info on Poovar. Will be going there during the Dussera.
Have some queries, can you please clarify:
1. How easy is the navigation through Nagercoil? Are the directions marked clearly? I will be going via Bangy-Madurai-Nagercoil route.
2. Where is the car parking place in Poovar?
3. In one of the gps tracks that you have uploaded, the track shows that you proceeded for some distance on the Poovar - Uchakkada - Parasala road and then went back. How was this road? Because I am planning to take this route - by diverting from NH-66 at Kaliakkavilai and then follow the Parasala - Poovar road.
I think I have bombarded you with enough questions.
Thanks in advance.

Till Nagercoil is a dream Run from Bangalore, I used to normally take less than 8 hours always.

1. Direction is marked from the Trivandrum side, so you'd have already passed two roads which would have taken you there. One the Parassala one and the Second the Neyyatinkara one.

2. Car parking is at the boat jetty of the respective resorts. They have them in in a bye lane after the Check post on Poovar Vizhinjam road.

3. The road was narrow and was of good surface. Don't remember more than that now..

No issues. If you want more info please ask
