My drive mates were taking some time to return form the temple. I decided to take a look at Rameshwaram Railway Station.

By 13:00 we started our return trip to Bangalore

From APJ Memorial to Pamban Bridge exit

We stopped to fill diesel. Kungfu Panda took in 41.86L of diesel after munching 737 kms, giving 17.61kmpl.

Somewhere on the way Kungfu Panda crosses 3000Kms

Since we had heavy breakfast we had skipped lunch. We got really hungry by evening. By 19:00 we stopped at New Classic Food Court in Namakkal town and had a great dinner.

Parotta again

Some where Kungfu Panda Crosses 3500Km. It was 23:00 hours by then

By 00:20 hours I reached home after dropping my drive mates.

Hi Lalu,

Thanks for an awesome travelogue

. That was quite a detailed overview on Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi. Your drive to the land's end has motivated me to plan a trip soon.

Couple of questions:
1. Is there any restriction/check on the road to Dhanushkodi? Anything I need to keep in mind?
2. Between the two routes (onward and return) which one did you find to be better?

1.
Some recent travelers have reported timing on that final stretch of road as 6Am to 6PM. On my drive there was no restrictions.

2.
Both routes are ok. First one there is a little misery traversing through Madurai interiors and exiting the town. Second one has quite a lot of two lane roads, at least until Namakkal from Rameshwaram. But both are doable.

Wonderful trip report. Loved every bit of the storytelling and pictures accompanying it only made it more worthwhile. More importantly it gives us a lot of confidence to plan our own trip. Always wondered if we would be able to do it over a weekend.

In addition the fact that you spared some time to cover the railway station and trains made my day. I am a huge railfan, if you are wondering

SmartCat, you can use this lat long position as a reference: 9.282837, 79.21120

While proceeding towards Rameswaram, you will have to cross the bridge. Towards the end of the bridge, the road would have a downward slope. You can park the car on the left and you should get this view.

As arvind have mentioned, cross the bridge completely, and then at the end of the bridge you could see bot the rail and road bridge in parallel like this.

Been to Dhanushkodi over the weekend. The place is now a mess. Traffic jams, restrictions, lots of shops, what not!!

Morning they allow vehicles only after 7AM. By then loads of traffic piles up.

Evening, last entry is at 5PM. Its a mad scramble at the tip for parking.

At the tip, now they have kept ropes restricting people to walk further.

Near the ruins shops and shops. It would have been okay if it was just on the roads, the church is surrounded by shops

I will put up some pictures and log of our drive in the coming days.
We left by 2:30AM on Saturday from Bangalore, reached Rameshwaram by 09:00AM. We left Rameshwaram by 10:30 on Sunday and reached home by 17:00. Good roads through and through.
