There were rain clouds and it mellowed down the heat. So hitting out to the beach at 15:00 was an okay affair. We drove out to Dhanushkodi  The drive towards Dhanushkodi, Lands end At the end of the video see the traffic jam at the tip, almost for over one kilometer vehicles were parked on both sides!! It looked bad  . Somehow as Kungfu Panda wanted he gets a slot right at the end.Before Reaching the tip, we did a drive detour to Kothanda Ramar Temple and back PPGs at Dhanushkodi Beach  Dhanushkodi Beach, a Panorama  The beach is now barricaded by a rope, preventing any one from walking more than 500m from the parking point. And there are a lot of Police guys swarming the area controlling the crowds  View of Ashoka Pillar at the parking point from the beach   The crowd at the tip, they are not allowed to go further, so they all walk towards the beach on the right and left. Left beach is tame with no waves and the right one with crazy waves   We found this anchor and boat interesting!!     Me trying to be a part of the crowd  Sr. PPG sitting on a barricade, immediately the police fellows whisteled and hurled abuses, god knows for what, there was no perceived danger here!!  These were the police guys  We decided to leave the place, so much for Dhanushkodi!! Place is now a mess! continued... |

Thankfully nobody called me, else it would have been a roaming in Srilanka affair   We then drove to the tsunami hit area to see the ruins Now the area is dotted with shops   We then walked towards ruins of a Church  I would have been happy had the shops just been on the main road, its now all around the ruins  A picture with my PPGs  We then walked towards the beach behind the church ruins  continued... Sr. PPG gets her birthday cake out for savoring near the beach   Wow, this is the second time the cakes are taken along with us on the birthday drive. I guess this trend is going to continue. Did the same last year too. Cake on the beach  And I get clicked too  The beach behind the ruins, thankfully all the crowd was at the tip for today and we got a private beach  We spent some quality time there devoid of the crowds, savoring the cake. Sr. PPG says she likes the idea of birthday drives  continued... |

We saw a place preparing squids and some small fish fry   Just for the heck of it we decided to try it out  Was okay, just for the feel factor. Squids costed 100, and the small fish 30 each  That's me suffering the unusual masala  We are ready to roll   We then drove to the area before the turn off to Kothanda Ramar Temple. Last time I visited it was all water here, but this time it looked like a salt desert. We stopped by the place we christened Salt Desert, 9 Kms before Dhanushkodi  PPGs getting ready to check out the salt desert  continued... Last edited by laluks : 28th July 2019 at 14:54. |

I have marked the location in the map.  Global warming? Less water in the seas? Low tide? What could be the reason for water to recede like this? A video from 2017 December, where we could see water till the road And for now, we see salt desert as far as eyes can see continued... |

She got herself a vantage position to watch us  Again I forgot to switch recording off, so we get a time lapse By 17:45, we decided to get back to our hotel, and take some rest. Drive from Salt Desert to Hotel We also took a peek at Rameshwaram Railway Station which was just 200m from our hotel By 18:30 we reached our hotel, freshened up and called it a day. Plan was to start early next day to catch sunrise at Dhanushkodi, like we did in 2017. While returning we had asked the check post guy when it will open, and he said by 06:00. So it was pretty clear that we will never be able to watch sunrise from lands end. That joy is taken from us by these rules and regulations. One wonder why We skipped Dinner as no one was hungry a bit and hit the bed for a good long rest. For the record we started from Bangalore by 02:30 and we were on the road till 18:30 hours, that's 16 hours of fun, covering over 700Kms and 20 vantage points. Had a nice hot tea and got out to check on the car by 05:30AM. Meanwhile PPGs were busy getting ready for the morning drive. Kungfu Panda at the Hotel  When we parked last night we had already done 727 kms for the day.  With a reported average of ~15Km/L  71Km/h average for the drive, including the fast drive from Bangalore to Rameshwaram and the visit to 20 Vantage points. Not bad  We rolled out by 06:15 Dhanushkodi road was practically empty  We could already see the rising sun   We decided to park Kungfu Panda and enjoy the sun rise from our salt desert  Sunrise, Salt Desert and Kungfu Panda  Jr. PPG decides to get a souvenir    Wifey decides to get one too  Road surface is to die for  Okay, Kungfu Panda and PPGs decides to get one  A parting shot before we drove ahead to Dhanushkodi  continued... I could see a zillion cars already parked here waiting for check post to open. We needed to kill some 20 odd minutes. We parked Kungfu Panda and decided to check out the pier  It went quite a bit into the sea from the shore  Was interesting to watch the waves splash here  Jr. PPG getting a memoir in her phone  Me with my PPGs, one for the album  Waves splashing at the pier continued... |

Some snippets of Dhanushkodi Road from everyone's camera Drive from Dhanushkodi back to hotel We reached hotel soon, and went ahead preparing for our long drive back home. By 09:30 we went for our complimentary breakfast of idli, vadas, dosas etc. Good breakfast and we leisurely sat down and had the same.  For the record, before starting from our hotel to Bangalore, we have covered 774Kms  ~15 Kmpl was the recorded fuel efficiency  Average speed for the trip till now recorded 69Kmph  By 10:30 we started our return journey to Bangalore, and took the same route we took from Bangalore. Unlike me, this time we chose the same route to reach Bangalore faster. We had only one pit stop for fuel before joining the Kanyakumari Salem Highway. Drive from Hotel to Pamban Bridge Exiting Pamban Bridge Pamban Bridge to Dindigul Nearing Bangalore, it was heavily raining and we could capture the rains falling down from the clouds at a distance  By 17:30 we reached home and parked. 7 hours from Rameshwaram to Bangalore. After clearing the luggage and other stuff from the car, before retring for the day clicked the details of the drive for the log. Total round trip of ~1417Kms. Return Trip from hotel 643Kms, which means we could cover 640Kms in 7 hours, good roads through out.  Kungfu Panda returns recorded Average Fuel Efficiency of 14Kmpl  And an average speed of 74Kmph for the round trip  By 19:00 I switched on the world cup finals and had some anxious hours before I hit the bed for the day. Onward journey gave 16.92 Kmpl, Rameshwaram local drive gave 13.21 Kmpl, and return drive gave 13.07 Kmpl. Overall 14.1 Kmpl, which matches with the dashboard display by Kungfu Panda. Total Fuel Costs Rs 8163. Average Statistics from Garmin for comparison of onboard computer readings of Kungfu Panda Onward Average, 607 Kms in 6.5 hours  Average for Day1, 69Kmph and 718Kms. Kungfu Panda Recorded 71Kmph and 727Kms  Average for round trip, 72.9Kmph and 1400KMs. Kungfu Panda Records 74Kmph, and 1416Kms  Looks like there is an odo and speedo error under 2%. With this trip Kungfu Panda is completing ~52500Kms, and its time to change the tyres. |
